Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

The closest thing to a plug and play solution would be something like a titan/cronusmax, but that requires a DS4 and going through your pc. There's no simple solution. :(

Edit: Going to get rid of a TE2 to help pay for this, and I have a custom PS4 stick to sell as well.

Yeah, some sacrifices are being made on my part as well. Basically all of my old 360 / PS3 sticks are going. I'm sure I could just order 2 and gouge someone on a resale of the spare, but I hate that.

I would LOVE to have two of these. I'm going to buy one now and maybe I can get one at EVO.

Can't swing two right now.

Yeah I really wish there was a charge at ship option. No way I can swing $300 right now.

Unless someone really wants to buy my VFHG! Haha :(

I think I might have to sacrifice too. MvC3 RAP can go. My Tatsunoko stick can go. FE can go. That should get the cost down to about $100. I just hope there are some left by May 1.

I'm assuming this is what MarkMan was talking about yesterday?

Has to be.

I wonder how long before a Fighting Edge.

Oh wow, it's 426.10$ Canadian with the cheapest shipping option and that does not include the import fees. Looks like about 500$... No way I can justify that... You guys enjoy yours!

So how exactly does replacing buttons work on a Hori stick? I'm probably going to stick with the Kuro buttons on my Kai, but I'm considering eventually swapping them out for Sanwa buttons down the line just so I can experience both. I know nothing about modding sticks though, so I don't know how complicated or risky this process can be. There's no soldering involved, right? I'm guessing it'll mostly be plugging the wires in and out of the buttons?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I tend to use my hands, but after a while the sharp angles on the quick-disconnects rough up my finger tips pretty good. I should get a pair of pliers. The only other thing to watch out for are the plastic clips on the buttons. I've broken a few while removing the button. That doesn't render it useless, but it still kind of sucks.

Fuuuuuck. I really want to buy two.

I already have two vlx, but I won't need them anymore with this one.

Those need to go on ebay now to fund these...

...looks like the old ones still go for $300-ish if they're in good shape. non-diamond versions.

edit - as to how limited this might be.. I would assume if they don't sell out by the end of the day they either aren't that limited or the price point put it out of demand. We'll see.

VLX, All Black, PS3/4 with touchpad, I had to do it.

There's now a V4Kai available at Amazon that used to be mine.

Still wish it had been Noir layout...

Thanks for the heads up MarkMan, my body and money were ready!

Yeah, I have a red and a diamond. The red is PS360.

I kind of dig having one of each version, though. I'd only do this to get two, lol. Don't really need two.

Do you know if this is metal like the diamond?

Judging from this photo, at least the face plate is?

Pre Ordered from Arcade Shock for a Real Arcade Pro 4 Premium VLX Kuro. I'm fucking excited. Is Arcade Shock good with pre orders and shipping?

I think what he was referring to was the difference between the VLX and VLX Diamond (which was pretty huge). The VLX had black painted metal panels (which wore off over time). The VLX Diamond was brushed metal treatment (not painted).

I'll find out. I'll get my hands on one asap.

Is there no chance to get madcatz older stuff, like the P4AU TE 2 stick? Or even the P4A one?

Only if you attend events. We will have limited stock of them at upcoming FGC events including EVO. We saved them for those shows to give people around the world a chance to get one. If you have friends in the area/attending any upcoming FGC events, have them stop by the MCZ booth and pick one up.

I'm going to be poor after Evo

Ah yeah. Would hope for the diamond treatment on this as I've seen some of the VLXs that just looked.... well not that great with some wear.

I have it in my cart but i'm having a hard time biting on these... I have to decide if I rather get the cheaper Pro 4 Kai on monday or wait until may for this (even though technically i'm paying for it now). What would push me over the edge is finding out if the quality is like the diamond but i guess we won't know until someone gets their hands on one and by that time it'll be way too late :(

Were their any decent fightpads for wii? I know a pad warrior who needs to play tvc.

No official ones that I know of...

Options I know of with 6 face buttons involve Wiimote adapters from Mayflash:
- SNES+Genesis adapter w/ Sega Genesis 6-button or Hori Super Famicom Fighting Commander
- PS2 adapter w/ Ascii/Hori/SNK pad

Otherwise you're looking at using the Classic and Classic Pro controllers or something like the Hori Digital Controller.

The texture of the black metal looks identical to the OG VLX based on the third pic at ArcadeShock (which you can zoom in on). So that makes me think it is painted. Would love to be wrong though.

Ordered a TE2 on Wednesday, and added a VLX today. Fuck it!

What do I google for to see some examples of wear that you are referring to?

edit: never mind. I googled hori vlx paint chip and damn I'm definitely concerned about dropping 3 bills if this might happen on these sticks as well.

Many questions here, going to mod for the first time and I appreciate your help! I will mod my HRAP 4 Kai.

It has 8 30mm buttons and a 24mm button?

Will I be able to replace the balltop with any Sanwa or Seimitsu balltops or I need a Hayabusa balltop?

Waiting for Art's Hobbies to add the model to his store is the best way to go for a new plexi?

Any special tools I should also buy to make sure that my life will be made easier upon modding?

I think that's it for now! Thank you very much!

Oh yea, for buttons... Snap-in or Screw-in?

Yes.

Yes, any make balltop will fit.

Sorry, don't know shit about plexi. I personally never use the stuff.

Any special tools I should also buy to make sure that my life will be made easier upon modding?

While not required, I would recommend a mechanical screwdriver. I tried to open up and make some changes to a stick I modded and used a mechanical screwdriver on a bunch of years ago using a regular screwdriver, and the screws and balltop were still as tightly fastened as ever. I actually had trouble undoing some.

I think that's it for now! Thank you very much!

Oh yea, for buttons... Snap-in or Screw-in?

I prefer snap-in's. Sometimes the nuts have trouble fitting in next to each other. But if you're thinking of using a thick plexi overlay, I might go with screw-in's.

Have fun, and welcome to the party.

If you are considering Seimitsu buttons, you should be aware that the 30mm snap-ins have a flatter button surface. The screw-ins are more convex (like Sanwa). So something to keep in mind if you have a preference there.

Thanks! I decided to go with Seimitsu scew-ins. I think that I will appreciate the fact that they are a little less sensible than the Sanwa!

Hello, I'm in the process of buying a new Ps4 stick, I'd like an Hori for design and aesthetics, unluckily if I'm not wrong there are no sticks with Sanwa stock parts right? Would I be fine in mounting my Sanwa parts that are stock on my RAPV3 SA on a new Hori? I've never bothered with these type of things and DIY is a big no-no for me, is the process of (de)mounting lever and buttons idiot-proof?

Do you guys know where I can get a template for the cord compartment of the qanba q4? I want to make a sticker for it. Does anyone online do printing for that or would I have to go to a place like kinkos?

Yes. All VLX sticks have metal construction. The Diamond Ed. was just raw brushed stainless steel. This Kuro is painted black like the 1st edition. If it chips, just repaint it or have it powder coated like i did.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the issue - black in particular is the easiest color to touch up.

For that price you shouldn't have to. They should powder coat it. It's metal after all...

Yeah pretty much this.

Also, if this isn't a diamond edition it makes me wonder whether or not a diamond version will hit in the future, which is a troubling thought.
