Can't wait to see what Forza Horizon will look like on XSX with all the RT bells and whistles enabled. From what I've seen RT reflections have the biggest impact on visuals out of all the RTX features. Racing games are the perfect showcase for real-time RT reflections with all the shiny cars, mirrors, and puddles. Curious to see how their RT implementation works.

Even if they don't know about a specific plan, if they have gotten confirmation that final specs for PS5 will be lower than 12 TF, announcing their specs right away gives them positive press now, and potential negative Sony press whenever they confirm. Mind you I am not hoping this will be the case. Just a possibility I recognize.

RT reflections is not the most expensive. That would be the ambient occlusion and GI components of the lighting equation.

IIRC Xenos was ahead of its time on feature set, but not so much on the powerside, the succeeding x1900 by Ati was more powerful, but it came out a few months later. But again, 360 was 399, so.... If XSX it's really that costly, then it might be really a 12 Tflos Rdna MONSTER.

How can people not grasp that even a legitimate source's information can and will change over time.
As the senior design lead in global marketing forredacted, I can tell you that information being fed down the chain can and will change because there is an incredible amount of moving parts behind the scenes. One of my company's products had its BOM increase this year by 140+ new line items. That is a lot of individual components that can sway not only the cost to the end user but specifics of entire features as well. Something will have to give if expected prices can't be negotiated, upper management has a change of heart and wants to add something else in reaction to a competitor and thus things can get cut down or added to the product team's initial models. We've had to update materials numerous times, only weeks before a launch.
The point I'm trying to make as I ramble on, is that someone could be fed perfectly accurate information from an internal source, only to have that information change without even the sources knowledge. I see this happen all the time; things change and on top of it no matter what kind of corporate culture and work ethic is preached in your organization, people and departments tend to work in silos. That said, always take everything you read with appropriate doses of salt.

lower the resolution to 720p, reduce the texture resolution and drawdistance, and remove the particle effects and you have a PS3 game yes.
but again, if this game was also on PS3 the PS4 version would still looks exactly like this. this game would absolutely be possible on PS3.
and if a game is held back, that would mean it is held back because the version that wouldn't be held back would not be able to run on the last gen system... which Second Son absolutely could with reduced graphics.
if we are talking about a game being held back by old hardware we are talking about gamedesign choices that would be impossible on the old systems. and there was not a single Sony studios game on PS4 at launch or in the first year or two that would have been impossible to run on PS3 with reduced graphics

Navi's sweetspot is 1.7GHz - 1.8GHz. 1.675GHz wouldn't really be squeezing; if anything, it'd be on the more conservative end (i.e there's room to upclock if desired).
And that's RDNA1 btw; RDNA2 has slightly more efficiency so the sweetspot is actually higher than the 1.7 - 1.8GHz range of RDNA1.

Random thought - if PS5 is only 9 TF, then MS dropping their specs might put Sony in an exceptionally tough spot for a few months at least. If they say nothing then the hype train for Series X picks up more and more momentum. But if they are coming in at 9TF, how do they blunt the disparity without talking price? And even if they are confident they will be a lot cheaper, can they really say that this far from launch without making a huge price cut to existing hardware?
Maybe Sony won't talk about power at all and they'll focus on other features.

I was saying that it has the biggest impact on visuals, not performance, but it's still interesting to hear. I've had a chance to mess around with RTX GI in Metro Exodus, but I don't have any games that have RTX AO to my knowledge. Do you know of any games I can test that in?
I need to get Control at some point, since it seems they have the most RTX features in a single package at this time. They do it with a relatively low performance impact, too. In other games I've tried you can see a 30-40% performance hit for just a single feature.

E3 plot twist - MS announces that XBX is available only through All Access, leaving Sony totally confused and unable to determine PS5 retail price, as a result never actually releasing it ;D
Truth be told, you can say that about pretty much every single game release during this generation, some even took a huge step backwards.

If what I heard is true and The PS5 is around 10TF. Look back at this game and other games Sony’s First Party Studios Created this Generation.
Imagine what Sony’s First Party Studios can do with a 10TF, Ray Tracing, Faster Ram and a SSD. SSD alone is a game changer for caching and storing Mega Textures or Tile Resourcing or what ever name you want to give it.
The PS5 will be fine and have a great Library of games. If the worst Case Scenario of the PS5 being 10TF is true.

I’m having a hard time understanding your logic here mate. I’ve done nothing but talk about the spec of both, talk about the facts, and give what I know. I’ve tried my best to leave fanboy rubbish out of it. I’ve never once said that I don’t side with MS over PlayStation, but that doesn’t mean I’m not a Sony fan. This appear to be a hard thing for some of you to grasp; it’s ok to like both, but both, but like one more.
