MS a company worth what, 2T? Can’t push out exclusives as good as it’s competition worth significantly less tells you all you need to know about quality of quantity in terms of studios.
YES here is a backstory on why Sony own all the IPs they fund.Sony always owns the IP for games they fund themselves
Jim will probably fuck it upYES here is a backstory on why Sony own all the IPs they fund.
It all started with 2 little games called Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon who became mascots of Sony, but the company did not own the IPs, after a lot of shuffle and merging, the rights to the intellectual property were acquired by Activision in 2008.
Sony learned the lesson and now, they own any IPs they publish/fund
If MS tried to make the games Sony makes, I would maybe agree, but they are doing their own thing. And as someone who has played exclusives from both consoles, I truly believe that the quality is no worse. Just different. There is just as much passion, creativity, talent invested in Sea of Thieves as there is in, let’s say, God of War.MS a company worth what, 2T? Metascore 94 vs 69....If MS tried to make the games Sony makes, I would maybe agree, but they are doing their own thing. The point is that MS went with 7.5 in order to wrap the talks. If they proposed 5.5 or 6, there could be delays - bargain and so on.That’s great business tactics - why not go $5B over what Sony bid. What I am saying is that I doubt “MS just went with 7.5 at once”.
why fans do not know the history behind their favourite company ?If MS tried to make the games Sony makes, I would maybe agree, but they are doing their own thing. Sony's smartest move in the past couple years was getting Insomniac. Smart, logical acquisition and one that was developing over the years.Random acquisition that gets you Obsidian along with the Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed? I'll take it.
And whatever they may want to call the Bethesda acquisition, it is quite literally one of the smartest ever acquisition related investments in gaming history. If not #1 it's damn near to the top.
Microsoft owns Fallout, Elder Scrolls, id tech engine, Doom, Wolfenstein, Starfield, Redfall, Prey, Dishonored, Shinji Mikami's studio Tango Games etc. Even the timed exclusives Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo for PS5 are now Xbox first parties. They will be dropped into Game Pass when the time comes. Xbox may have an exclusive Indiana Jones game by the looks of the Microsoft strategy so far with Redfall and Starfield. Unless Disney insists otherwise, Microsoft is probably already making that move, and considering what they're doing with cloud gaming across all platforms including android and iPhone and Game Pass on both Xbox and PC, they may have plenty enough to woo Disney on the Indiana Jones exclusive.
That Pirates of the Caribbean expansion for Sea of Thieves is just another sign of their collaboration with Disney.
The simple thing about this is that these acquisitions weren't just "random," they were all smart, all well timed. Playgrounds was an excellent pickup. Ninja Theory was also a very smart buy as well. So was Doublefine and InXile. Everything plays perfectly into Microsoft's current and future strategy. Obsidian and now Bethesda certainly was no accident. Someone has a new vegas followup in mind for certain.
This gets so old and tired lol. 343 are delivering the best looking and most ambitious looking Halo game ever. The game is looking like a homerun, so they may not exactly be the best example. It isn't a major surprise that a team with such big ambitions couldn't make launch date in the middle of a global pandemic.
GOW was played for a week or 2 and is now history until it's next iteration. SOT continues to grow over time and will still be growing long after the GOW sequel is also history. Sony's games don't have legs and they are looking towards multiplayer games for a reason.Metascore 94 vs 69....
Sorry, but this comparison is ridiculous beyond any genre and platform borders.
I preferred watching The Shawshank redemption than watching 6 months of love island and big brother, but hey, that's just me.GOW was played for a week or 2 and is now history until it's next iteration. SOT continues to grow over time and will still be growing long after the GOW sequel is also history. Sony's games don't have legs and they are looking towards multiplayer games for a reason.
Daaaamn. I wish I like Ratchet games.Sony's smartest move in the past couple years was getting Insomniac. Smart, logical acquisition and one that was developing over the years.![]()

It's not about the money mate. They don't have the money, it's not a choice
Growing by "almost reaching launch numbers"GOW was played for a week or 2 and is now history until it's next iteration. SOT continues to grow over time and will still be growing long after the GOW sequel is also history. Sony's games don't have legs and they are looking towards multiplayer games for a reason.
That is actually a terriffic comparison. Cudos.I preferred watching The Shawshank redemption than watching 6 months of love island and big brother, but hey, that's just me.![]()
But will money hat random games for timed exclusivity.
Weren’t they knocking at everyone’s door to sign deals?

Sony has reportedly approached all major third-party developers with exclusivity deals
A new report claims that Sony has approached all major third-party companies for PlayStation 5 exclusivity deals of sorts, and offered considerably more than Microsoft in terms of monetary value.www.neowin.net
after all the bs back and forth those last two better be more than just timed exclusive.Yep. I remember that post. It's already come to pass. Sony has been paying a lot of money for timed exclusives these last few years.
Just off the top of my head.
- Deathloop
- Ghostwire Tokyo
- FF7remake
- FF7remake integrate
- Forspoken
- FF16
- Kena Bridge of Spirits
- Godfall (only 6 months)
- Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 remake (only 1 month but they still thought it was worth whatever they paid for just 1 month of exclusivity)
- Jade Raymond's new studio exclusive
- Ex-Treyarch devs new studio exclusive
- Ex-Bungie devs new studio excluisve
Then there are unannounced games like MGS and Silent Hill remakes that will likely also be timed exclusive.
Like they didn't get timed exclusivity for The Medium. Face it they don't get timed exclusivity because it's more difficult for them to get that from a third party. They would have to give up 60%+ of their sales.
Third best. They are behind the switch as well. It's not about the money mate.
PlayStation has soundly thumped Xbox for decades now with less $$$. The game and hardware sales speak for themselves.
The fact that Xbox have deeper pockets and is still comfortably 2nd best speaks volumes more about Xbox than PS.
Metascore 94 vs 69....
Sorry, but this comparison is ridiculous beyond any genre and platform borders.
10 hours of excellence trump a 100 hours of mediocrity, easily.Go read the Steam reviews by people who actually play the game.
Do you want one game a year you’ll play for 8 hours of enjoyment or 100 hours what would you prefer?
Even the average time spent on even Grounded would be double that of GoW a Beta title.
Sony knows how to make a single player game, but they have no idea how to make a multiplayer game, anything with legs more than a days playtime.
Perhaps. All I know is PS is smart about how they go about spending their money. They're well on top and the PS userbase is only going up. PS5 also setting record sales compared to PS4.Third best. They are behind the switch as well.
For most of gen Sony was half if not more of console market share....but strangely you don't see that much people complain about this dominant enought position that allow them to lock lot of famous third party IPs at least temporary.Yep. I remember that post. It's already come to pass. Sony has been paying a lot of money for timed exclusives these last few years.

The real reasons why it's not the easy choice to go see elsewhere if this IP has some success. Continue with Sony or begin again from scratch ?Sony always owns the IP for games they fund themselves, and given these are completely new studios it's not like they have any leverage in negotiations
I don't think the acquisition of Bethesda is good monetarily, didn't their games primarily sale more on Playstation? If so that means their purchase actually lost a lot of value, business wise it actually sounds terrible having to over pay for an acquisition that won't hit old revenue targets.Random acquisition that gets you Obsidian along with the Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed? I'll take it.

lol this againAnd we still have to see if Zenimax games announced as exclusive really will be full console exclusives instead of only timed console exclusives. Remember that the Xbox CEO said their strategy for Bethesda was 'first or best on Xbox', Phil said they were going to support their existing communities on other platforms and that also had contractual stuff etc.
They have strong output they don't need to spend like Microsoft and they can't spend like too, Microsoft subscription business model need quantity output so many games with some good AAA and they are feeding their subscribers backlogs, Sony other story they need only quality games that can sell at high price to make profit. It's not about the money mate.

ChristSony and Nintendo won't give if Zenimax stops releasing games an DLC on PS5 and Switch because Zenimax game sales were a tiny portion of PS4 and Switch/WiiU/3DS game sales, specially when compared to their 1st party output.

MS will continue being the 3rd after the Zenimax purchase, and not only selling hardware, but also regarding total game sales and total with exclusive game sales too.
Yep there are multiple paths possible....And the more path taken the better in the end because it probably means more tastes and audiences pleased. They have strong output they don't need to spend like Microsoft and they can't spend like too, Microsoft subscription business model need quantity output so many games with some good AAA and they are feeding their subscribers backlogs, Sony other story they need only quality games that can sell at high price to make profit.
I was confused by the QD but it does look that those IP are owned by SonySony always owns the IP for games they fund themselves, and given these are completely new studios it's not like they have any leverage in negotiations

10 hours of excellence trump a 100 hours of mediocrity, easily.
And I want to see how you pack 25 hours in "a days playtime" in this specific comparison.
I'd rather pay 69,99$ dollars for high quality games than get fodder garbage like grounded and Crap of thieves for the low.
We don't need 100+ hour bloated pieces of crap like most M$ shovelware games these days.
You can’t surely be comparing Microsoft from nearly a decade ago to today and think that it has any bearing?why fans do not know the history behind their favourite company ?
what passion does MS has? they forced Rare to make Kinect games...
They shut down studio after studio in the xbox 360 gen, then for the middle gen they relied on Kinect games and their 3 IPs.
If anything what you just said about Sea of Thieves says how resilient those people at Rare are.
99,9% of all user reviews aren`t worth the bits in the DB they`re saved in. There is nothing like objectivity to be found in that moloch. DIfferent people like different things, but just because some people bought a Fiat Multipla that doesn`t make it an objectively less ugly car.So the hundred thousand steam gamers don’t recognise when a game is shit compared to metacritic reviewers is what you’re saying?
42.And that it took you 25 hours to finish GoW?
That Shawshank Redemption comparison is pretty good when it comes to GoW. Both very well made, effective pieces of entertainment, but also relatively safe and made for the broadest audience possible. Sea of Thieves is a bit more niche, it is not instantly likeable and based on many SoT threads, it is also widely misunderstood. There could be hundreds of movie and TV equivalents, but here is one from me: Eastbound and Down. So, yeah, it will never score as high as GoT, but what I said, the passion, the craft, the creativity and the vision is totally comparable in quality. But I digress And this is probably the very last time I try to argue about the game with people who haven’t experienced it.Metascore 94 vs 69....
Sorry, but this comparison is ridiculous beyond any genre and platform borders.

Man you seriously need help. Real medical help from real psychiatrist. And we still have to see if Zenimax games announced as exclusive really will be full console exclusives instead of only timed console exclusives.

He lives in fucking parallel universe! People from Bethesda even apologized for Sony fans that they will not be able to play Starfield and he is still in denial. It's not normal. You're acting like dude came here and announced he gained the power of flight from a fictional cosmic being. In actual reality, he dared to post an opinion which is different to yours.
And you're telling him to seek Psychiatric help because he doesn't share your opinion?
Yikes!
Yeah wait until naughty dog show their next game. It will case of study for this industryPretty gross for him to say that to be honest.
A slap in the face of the Xbox Game Studio developers.
A development studio like id Software has had more influence on the industry than any of Sony’s studios for example.
Yeah wait until naughty dog show their next game. It will case of study for this industry
You are mistaking Sony Corporation as a whole as the PS division. The company is huge and has enough money of course, but they are very unlikely to put that much money down for the gaming division. Microsoft by buying Zenimax has done something out of the ordinary, acquiring a major publisher is almost unheard of and something Sony has never done since PS was created.
Maybe you're the one who has to go, or intead to learn how to be a bit polite and to debate properly providing facts to back your opinions instead of attacking who doesn't agree you.Man you seriously need help. Real medical help from real psychiatrist.
Yes, in the recent years Sony allowed some 2nd party teams to port games they did for them on PC using other publishers even if these IPs belonged to Sony. Quantic Dreams selfpublished their games, Kojipro released Death Stranding I think it was with 505, ThatGameCompany put Flower and Journey on PC with Annapurna. Giant Sparrow published Unfinished Swan and What Remains of Edith Finch. Edith Finch was a special case because Sony gave it to Annapurna before the publishing it on PS4, so Annapurna published it even on PS4.I was confused by the QD but it does look that those IP are owned by Sony
Yeah wait until naughty dog show their next game. It will case of study for this industry
Bloody hell that's going way back! I stand corrected Sir.![]()

You just described Gears as well by this logic.Naughty Dog games are just playable movies. Their gameplay has never been something that other games haven’t done and in most cases have done better. Given they are third person games the case study belongs to Resident Evil 4 and Capcom.
Their main contributions have been high production values and guess what you have to THROW MONEY AT a game to get it at that level. So no. Not even close.
