Why do so many people want to buy a PS5? Why can they afford to raise the price at this point? Maybe Sony is doing something right as well because the demand it there.Everyone knows that Sony is very popular.
But this line of argument, if taken to its logical extreme, basically justifies anything bad that they will ever do. It's not a great argument. This is literally the arrogant Sony argument, but now its coming from the fans lol.
I hate to break it to you but no country on this planet has capitalism now. It's mixed at best but we haven't had free markets since 1913 in the US.Lol it is okay because I'm a capitalist and I believe a profit incentive is the reason why gaming is so good. It drives innovation and it produces incredibly good outcomes in terms of entertainment.
The cost to produce things are staying the same, it's just currency is going bad. Your currency is losing purchasing power but manufacturing adjusted for inflation is mostly stable outside of supply issues.€50 euro less
Inflation, the cost of products to produce chips and hardware is increasing, China is blocking sand for chipmaking to Taiwan.
The rising of shipping products all over the world cous fuelprices are rising, the war in Oekraine, factorys all over the world paying much more for energy for making theyr products, material prices are rising trough the roof and i coud go on.....But a lot of posters here have found fuel to bitch about Sony....
weren't facebook making a huge loss on the quest? This won’t matter, the console is still going to sell out around the holidays.
But it’s a strange move for them to do this now. Didn’t the Quest 2 also have a price increase recently?
The fact that these companies would do this isn’t a good sign for the economy.
Sony should charge the maximum price the market will bear. That's how pricing in a free market economy works. Else you either have a shortage due to underpricing (which is the case right now) or the business will do poorly due to unsold stock as a consequence of overcharging.Everyone knows that Sony is very popular.

So the unit you were going to buy goes to someone else that isn't as worried about value play. Everybody is happy with that outcome. Its why I cancelled mine and will opt back into GP for another three years. Sony has no value play, which I hate since PS has been my main since PS1. Oh well.
Not every product is sold with the same contribution margin? duh? Controllers are sold to bring profit. Plattforms, ie consoles, and VR-headsets probably too, are sold to create follow up sales. Entire different goal.I have seen many people think this yet they think the new edge controller will be $199
How?
I concede that they do many things right, and they're very popular. Obviously. Why do so many people want to buy a PS5? Why can they afford to raise the price at this point? Maybe Sony is doing something right as well because the demand it there.
I am saying there is a hell of a lot of money around Sony and putting the price of the hardware up at this moment is anti consumer and it would be if mircrosoft do it seen as you wanna blame them for itAre you comparing the Spider-man movies and their Sony umbrella companies to Azure/office SaaS/and other MS companies?
Yeah, bankrolling PS6 off of Morbius, Spider-man, and Venom movies. What profit margins are you dreaming about here?
Cost of living mmh… I wonder if employees also would push for higher wages, nah… cost of living matters only to consumers… come on, I get what you are trying to say, but do not push it like this…
I really want to visit the US again; last time I did was in 2014.. but I’m afraid of getting shot nowI mean if you haven't won a World War, walked on the Moon or use a weird measuring system..

PlayStation Plus Subscription Price Will Increase in September
The price hike marks the first time the cost of the service has increased since launching in 2010www.thewrap.com
You can criticize them all you want, but this one is pretty clear cut and it's hard to understand what makes it so offensive. Demand is apparently there they think that they can get away with a 10% raise.I concede that they do many things right, and they're very popular. Obviously.
I'm just asking you guys to examine your argument, because if taken to its logical extreme, it justifies anything bad they will ever do. It basically says they're winning so they're correct. It's a might makes right argument, instead of actually discussing the merits of the decision itself.
At what point is it okay to criticize their decisions? Only if sales dip?
Aand done. I'm set for 3 years for a price of Starfield and a half.Pretty much cements my purchase of Series X then. First console I'll own since the PS2. The price increase on console + 70/80€ games are a no-no, especially in a recession when money is tighter.
I'll plop down ~100€ for 3 years worth of Game Pass Ultimate and be done with it.
If MS did it I would say it would be a tad worse, size of the company and war chest matter.I am saying there is a hell of a lot of money around Sony and putting the price of the hardware up at this moment is anti consumer and it would be if mircrosoft do it seen as you wanna blame them for it
Sony again, with the PS4, don't you remember?
one has to wonder if this could have been avoided if Sony hadn't been dumping (read: wasting) hundreds of millions of dollars developing movies and tv shows no one wants. i'm sure the Gravity Rush TV show (or whatever) will be well worth the sacrifices to the gaming brand.
I have a ps5.So the unit you were going to buy goes to someone else that isn't as worried about value play. Everybody is happy with that outcome.
Except this kind of thing for consoles has never happened before that I can remember. The most recent example being the Meta VR price going up which also shocked everyone. Usually the price of a console goes down over time through the course of it's life, not jacking it up a few years in.Welcome to reality, where everybody charges as much as they can for their products, specially luxury products that are limited by supply.
Playstation releases their games though unlike Xbox. If Playstation show it, 99% of the time they will release it. I know they would do a showcase regardless since they did one last year in September but it be wise to go all out to soften the blow of the price raise by showing more games than they normally would.I think you overestimate the impact of a showcase. Thing like games actually releasing like TLoU Pt1, God of War Ragnarok matter a lot more than promises.
2023 is already packed with releases as well, I don't think that's it. We probably were going to get a showcase regardless (like we got every year so far this gen), they don't take part in any other game show anymore they have to showcase their games somewhere.
Unmet demand like the one we are seeing for the PS5 for this long is also something that never happened before.Except this kind of thing for consoles has never happened before that I can remember. Wait, so they aren't even losing a sale?I have a ps5.
You know that currency forward contracts are a thing? Every time a company blames currency difference it is a scam, since you can lock in the exchange rate in advance.the fx rate was going to cause issues for Sony
sorry I got trolled like a bitchThat's a 2016 article

weren't facebook making a huge loss on the quest?
i know sony must've been making a loss but it's very unusual to see them hike prices.
the world is fucked.
The theory is that Microsoft is increases the prices of the Arcade Xbox 360 bundle and accessories because of the pound-to-Euro exchange rate.
The second source also let slip that Microsoft plans to increase the cost of individual Xbox 360 accessories by a couple of quid in order to “counteract the poor Pound-to-Euro currency exchange rate”.
The highly unusual case of a price hike is a "response to changes in the market environment," according to a statement Sony provided to the Financial Post. The company didn't clarify specifically what those changes are, but it's highly possible that a weakening Canadian Dollar has led to the price adjustment.
Why do Sony fans focus on Xbox when it’s Nintendo that keeps eating their lunch?Playstation really lives in Xbox fanboys head rent free, pretty hilarious.
They are obsessed with Sony news more than Sony fans![]()
I mean, PlayStation’s messaging has been abysmal the past few months.Playstation really lives in Xbox fanboys head rent free, pretty hilarious.

Can you think of any other category which is going to lose €50 in the deal? Starts with a C.Smart decision. Supply and demand. Sony underpriced the ps5 at launch not realising it will be the most in demand console ever. This gives €50 less to scalpers and more to Sony.

They all affect the GPU market also, yet one is dropping in price and one has increased. We know why it's happening prices have increased across the board but let's not make out that Sony isn't without blame, they could eat those extra costs to save for their customers correct? Will Microsoft increase console prices? Will Nintendo? If they do only then will your argument hold any water. So you also dismiss all the others factors i mentioned??
Yea, it's like they just won the lottery hearing about this news.So many xbots just reacted to my post, like moths to a flame.
If MS did it I would say it would be a tad worse, size of the company and war chest matter.
If MS only had the entire warchest Sony corp has, they would have likely not spent in the order of $70+ Billion in less than two years just to acquire two game publishers… and you keep dancing around this point. SIE has fat they could trim not to raise prices but a lot less than NS and it would mean less ability to compete against MS which has a lot more cash on hand. Then again you do not have to care about that and I get it, but do not complain if there is more consolidation and less consumer choice then
.
Edit: Thanks for the reaction score boostRiky .
You forgot the confusing date format.I mean if you haven't won a World War, walked on the Moon or use a weird measuring system..
