Be honest when we were all following the ABK/MS trial thing last summer going on into the new year did we really think in February we would expect this to happen?
I completely thought Phil's goal was to consolidate and monopolize... I was not expecting gamepass to really damage the brand this much at all. At least not so soon.

I expected a disneyfication of xbox where'd they'd put a KK in charge and just shit out lackluster content because content is all that matters and then slowly die

You know, a few years ago I wished for a videogame industry crash to try to reset the whole thing and rebuild it into a less political, more sustainable model that focuses on games first.

I wonder if I'm gonna get my wish after all..

Feel free to be snarky all you like, these leaks have made it absolutely clear that they're transitioning to software.

Only a fool or a blind fanboy can look around at all the fires and think otherwise.
We all know they're making changes but if you're 100% right with everything you wrote then you're the next Nostradamus. Also give me 6 numbers between 1 and 59 please.

Someone give me tl;dr breakdown of what's been happening. Have rumours been confirmed that Xbox is going multiplatform?

I honestly don't know.

Do you think if Starfield sold well on PS then that would mean nothing would be off the table? Forza, Halo and Gears all ported to PS? I find that hard to imagine.
Starfield is/was the crown jewel, if that can go to PS anything can.

Consider MS are done subsidising the xbox division. It's either death or call an audible.

GOOD GUY PHIL. I await his greatest performance yet. One that will surely put the icing on the cake and if he were a movie star no doubt have him up for multiple academy awards! But alas this is just gaming so certain rabid xbox fans might actually come after his ‘lifetime’ achievement award, that is ofc if the scapegoat Sarah bond doesnt do all the dirty work next week!

Cut the price of both consoles with six months of GP free. Then, pay billions to third party publishers to ensure all their games are on GP day one?
Won't matter. They did that in december in their strongest market and got outsold 2:1 by Sony, who was selling PS5 like hotcakes at full price l.

Imagine now, with this shitstorm hitting the internet.
They'd bleed money, but they'd increase console sales for a bit.

It's probably a good idea that I'm not in charge of Xbox.
Would a waste of money, as it's futile.

The question is what killed the Xbox Brand?
Was it GP?
XboxOne?
No Exclusives?

Phil stated that the "xboxone" version was the worst one to lose because the people build their digital library with that gen.
All 3 overall but ultimately gamepass was the nail in the coffin.

I get a feeling starfield was expected to sell waaaay more (and it still sold well) but gp ate its lunch...

I mean I know all I did was sub for a month for what 7dollars. Played and hated it and moved on.

I can see why.

Sorta? This has always been a potential off-ramp, but I at least figured, if MS could re-structure the deal to get past the CMA, they'd at least try to leverage some of ABK to see if they can spurn GP growth. Sounds like the financial teams had all the data needed to suggest that not only would it not, but they'd establish a precedent that'd be far too impactful to walk back from if they did.

Don't forget exclusives going day and date on PC and for "free" with GP.

Also, I can't believe they're not even going to address this for a week. What an absolute dumpster fire.

I've said it for a long time, but I believe Phil Spencer was put in place to oversee the transition to 3rd party publishing, but gradually.
Everything that happened since he took over pointed towards this.

Something just went horribly wrong and it suddenly all came crashing down in a way they didn’t expect at all.

My guess would be the 10-year deal that Jim Ryan got out of the ABK acquisition.
It went horribly wrong real quick after the acquisition and now they're in full panic-mode. There isn't even any damage-control anymore.

It's also probably why Jim Ryan decided to retire. It was his mic-drop moment.

I agree the Xbone was the nail in the coffin, which is largely because of exclusives. Can you name a must have Xbox exclusive of that gen? I can't. PlayStation didn't have many, but Xbox simply had none. Now have friends who are on PlayStation or PC solely because of their digital library, so while they're mostly playing 3rd party games that are multiplat, they're not switching to Xbox because there's no reason to.

depending on Starfield, forza performance (increase of consoles sales and GP subscribers). Once they didn't move the needle I thought "this is catastrophic"

The ABK thing was never really a question for me. They spend 70B for IPs that are PC-centric live/ongoing games. CoD is a rubber band ready to snap.

So, I didn't expect to be this fast. but things are just going to get worse for MS/Xbox going forward.

It could just be for financial disclosure reasons they can’t say anything until next week. But that would not be as much fun!

Why can't these choads be like. You know what guys, shit I was wrong and I admit that. I hope all ps fans enjoy the game.

Some people didn't get slapped for being chops growing up and it shows.
I'll quote myself from the other thread
So much of this backlash has nothing to do with games but it's all cope from die-hard team green warriors getting dunked on by their team blue mortal enemies on Twitter.
