Phil Spencer: announcement this week

How are the chances these drop the exclusives on day one idea for good?

I think there is a possibility they would want to. There is a lot of front loaded Call of Duty and TES sales etc, especially since the acquisition. Like below:

The irony of all of this is that the ABK deal changed this. Xbox prior to ABK was by higher ups as a toy. Now that they see how much revenue ABK is bringing the bean counters realize that killing much of the revenue to put on Gamepass is an absolutely terrible idea. Execs saw that for the first time ever, gaming was bringing in more revenue than Windows.

Interesting that the thing the Xbox fanboys championed the most....acquisitions. Will be the thing that ends up doing them in.

Yeah and it also opened a lot of floodgates, like internal mail traffic and revenue data got published. I can imagine someone punching the table and saying they don't want to devaluate everything they are going to release.

The way I see it, gamers will sub for online play anyway. And they will pay as much as 8-10 bucks a month for it. There is already a good revenue stream from just that.

He's upfront about being an attorney I think.

Yeah, he actually provided some really good perspective during the ABK regulatory review. Brought in another lawyer who specialized in mergers and acquisitions to throw some water on the whole "carve out UK" nonsense that folks like Michael Prachter was preaching. He's a diehard Xbox guy and loves poking fun at PlayStation fans, but he's definitely no Xbox apologist.

Fixed that for you.

This feels like most modern marketing. Announce that you are going to make an announcement about something that will be announced later. No one knows what it is and in the void fills it with millions of other things.

All anyone is talking about is Xbox. It feels like that the entire Generation, and I wouldnt say its a good thing. But, its XBox's doing. Putting Phil front and centre talking to anyone and everyone was an interesting approach.

Topher is one of the more level headed and respectful posters on this site. Show a little bit of respect for that.

Nailed it.

DenchDeckard DenchDeckard I can understand if you want to shit on me. I deserve it because I can sometimes be an ass. But I don't think you need to take it out on Topher Topher .

Look I know this situation is frustrating but there's no point in getting worked up over it. Sometime in the future Microsoft will talk about it and then we can discuss the facts. At the moment though all we have is rumors and speculation which is frustrating.

Just to mess with us, we are going to find out that the announcement for this week, is the announcement of the announcement, and whatever is happening will happen in 2 weeks.
That’s what Hollywood does now.

How many times have you seen a small teaser trailer announcing the date for the full movie trailer?

It’s dumb.. and a lot of Hollywood and a lot of video game developers are cut from the same cloth

It would be hilariously bad to respond to rumors with an announcement of an announcement, leading to people shitting on Xbox for a week, and end up changing nothing.

Prepare for the announcement to be on Friday, most likely in the late afternoon. They say Fridays are usually the best time to let people down with bad news (with the weekend on the way).
Monday being the worst day for bad news, (like firing or letting someone go from a job).

This would be good news for the market though they would make more money.

It’s that ol’ nobody buys anything, yet engagement is through the roof conundrum.

I guess you're one of those that demanded a multi trillion dollar company communicates instantly on rumours about something theyve not even officially announced yet...and change their entire plans to appease the demands of internet man children. :)

Wanna, play some helldivers 2 and make friends?
Jesus. You’ve always come off as a mildly irritating Xbox shill but you’re quickly evolving into delusional and pathetic.

You will survive whatever news that Xbox decides to share, I promise.

So current state of play.... ;)

2 or 3 games being announced
1 Bethesda game
1 MS Studios GaaS game
Potetntially 1 MS Studios game that people aren't expecting (probs Halo maybe FH5)

1 or 2 hardware announcements (3 if you include a new controller)

Gamepass changes that are unpalatable for everyone that paid $1 for 16 years worth.

Anything else?
Speech about “vision for the future of Xbox”, and what that entails.

John was unbearable I really don't understand why certain content creators feel the need to shit on Sony when things go bad for Xbox
I think I've had enough of those three faces. They overstayed their welcome, nothing to do with xbox or sony, just that entitled bullshit I chose to listen for way too long. I felt sorry for John for some time, but now he might be the one that gets on my nerves the most. But Alex has to be the top choice, so John can wait.

See, they make me write shit like this? Time to say goodbye to that show. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I don’t like John. He’s a coward. He let the Atmos lag issues on XSX go after the Xbox crowd attacked him. What a wimp.

He also won’t talk about physical media for Xbox games for the same reason.

Crisis communication basics: If a crisis occurs, communicate asap (24h) when you will disclose further information. That what's Phil Spencer did. The fact that Microsoft is taking so long tells you either a) they were totally unprepared or b) the crisis is not half as big as it is being hyped up to be.

From what we know about the management, I'm guessing a), probably because it's a fairly "recent" change of strategy direction and they haven't had any proper preparation time. Someone leaked confidential information very fast. Perhaps a coincidence with the job cuts, but not necessarily.

The only thing that interests me, apart from the fact that Nadella is giving a strong push here. Is, how far does this push go? and did the backslash have an effect on the pace?
