Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The game isn't even out and they're already working on the film. That's some high confidence in the IP.

A live-action film adaptation of the video game “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” is in the works before the game even launches.

Variety has learned exclusively that game developer Sandfall Interactive is teaming with Story Kitchen to develop a film version of the game, which will be published by Kepler Interactive. The game is due to be released on April 24 on Xbox, Playstation, PC, Steam, and Epic. It was recently showcased on Xbox Developer Direct and was featured on DualShockers’ Top 10 Most Anticipated Indie Games of 2025 as well as the cover of “PC Gamer” and “Edge Magazine.”

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sandfall Interactive to bring the rich, immersive world of ‘Expedition 33’ to the big screen,” said Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson & Mike Goldberg. “The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike.”
Casting and directorial decisions for the film are currently underway. Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval will be producing for Story Kitchen

“Partnering with Story Kitchen allows us to expand the universe of ‘Clair Obscur’ beyond the gaming realm,” said Sandfall Interactive’s CEO/Creative Director, Guillaume Broche. “Their expertise in storytelling and passion for our vision make them the perfect team to translate our game into a captivating film.”

Just like when they announced celebrity VAs, I wish they'd focus on the quality and release of the game instead of this tertiary stuff. That said, if this wasn't done with the game budget whatsoever, it's fine. I probably won't engage with it, but it's fine.

I cannot wait to be done with this reincarnated multimedia obsession. People didn't even show up for a DnD movie. Why the fuck are they going to show up for this?
I get it, Hollywood is starved for IP, but this is just ridiculous.

Like, look at this shit. This Story Kitchen company is lined with a bunch of IP that will go absolutely nowhere in Hollywood. They were also behind the fantastic Tomb Raider Netflix cartoon. Oof
