Awesome news! I’ve always wanted to try that version of Need for Speed.

The 3DO is the most fascinating game console to me. Its absurd price and supposed extreme power in 1993 made me view it as some sort of mythical object. I was convinced that it was capable of producing life-like graphics just based on its price and marketing campaigns.

I don't know anyone who had one, though, and no one I knew knew anyone who had one, either. I knew kids with 32x, Saturn, Jaguar, even Neo Geo. But absolutely no one had a 3DO. I don't think I ever saw one at a playable kiosk, either.

It’s got a lot to love about it and now way more people will discover that moving forward which I am stoked about

Only place I've seen a 3DO in real life was Funcoland.

I always saw it as being a sort-of EA console because they dominate most top 3DO games lists. I also took Gex to be 3DO's mascot despite releasing on everything else at the time.

Bought a 3DO with a nice selection of CIB games on Ebay like 15 years ago. USPS destroyed it delivering a shredded box with everything leaked out except the actual console which didn't quite fit in the many holes in the mess of cardboard that they still somehow considered a package. And I promptly retired from retro collecting.

Still have never actually played a 3DO.

pretty sure it's not real, even though it says "r·e·a·l"

i mean, it says "3DO Interactive Multiplayer"... but it's only got one controller port

I don't know, I think it was almost a good idea. They should have designed it with a "Y" cable, one side of the Y would be a 5-10 foot long cable attached to the controller, the other side of the cable would be 1ft cable ending in a controller port.

Ironically Trip Hawkins accused EA of not giving enough support to the 3DO even when they were easily the biggest 3rd party publisher on the platform

The one thing I remember about 3DO was walking into an Electronics Boutique and seeing a sign for $699. That was just absolutely absurd back in the day.

Almost peak EA on release with some great updates to sports game amongst others. Decent Street fighter and samurai showdown only let down by the joypad buttons and daisy chain.

I know my gaming circle was blown away at that time.

1993 and early 1994 this was a preview of the next gen.

Where did you learn to fly ?
