Guess this might be based on what happened with crucible? Anyway, scoop below

EXPLORER,
We will be pushing our launch date back to Spring 2021, and the planned Closed Beta set for 23 July will also be postponed accordingly.

We want to ensure that the most dedicated players have plenty of middle and endgame experiences as they venture through Aeternum. We want our players to feel completely immersed in the game, and know that our studio stands for quality and lasting gameplay you can trust — and that means added time to get things where we want them before we fully release.

As a thank you to our community, we will be providing a special opportunity for our Beta sign-up customers through July 9th and all pre-order customers (plus our Alpha testers, thank you!) to play the full game of New World - in its current state, for a limited period of time starting on 25 August. In preparation for that event, we will be bringing our current Alpha test down on 12 July. We will send an email directly to those customers detailing the process to participate.

Cant blame them. They really need to get their shit together, but they still need some confidence to release this game eventually.

Sounds about right. I participated in a closed beta last year I believe and while it was obviously an older build it just felt like a weird mish mash of Rust/DayZ and WoW. Hopefully they'll be able to improve things going forward. Could do with some more onboarding as well as I had no clue what I was supposed to be doing lol.

I waiting for Amazon to come out and challenge Sony and MS in the gaming space. They plan to, they have made some small steps, but have yet to pull the trigger.
Amazon may decide not to go with hardware, but rather just get into publishing and developing games.

They could just go back and buy out someone like Take Two or EA.

That gaming division is a joke (and I'm still a bit angry about they buying Double Helix and basically making them disappear after the very good exploit with Strider and Killer Instinct).

Further proof that investing in the game market without a clear knowledge and vision will always fail, since the 3DO era.

Gaming industry is a hard one. If they want to compete with Nintendo/Sony/MS they will have a pretty hard time. The best for them is to become a software developer but they need to be more innovative with their ideas. This game (as it is now) is a complete complicated disaster. But I understand that they are still very young in this and money alone can't do the trick (take Google for example).

I have zero faith in this game, they changed vision dramatically halfway through which is never a good sign. And with Shadowlands actually looking good there's just not enough time in the day for two MMOs.
