Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian has detailed the game’s last major patch — and it’s a big one.

Patch 8, due out in 2025, adds crossplay, photo mode, and 12 new subclasses to the hugely successful role-playing game. In a blog post, Larian said Patch 8 is the game’s last major update, with the developer moving on to brand new games away from the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

However, Larian promised to continue to support Baldur’s Gate 3 modders, with “big updates still to come,” including more functionality “to let you tell your own stories.” Official mod tools were released in September, and since then players have uploaded more than 3,000 mods and downloaded over 70 million.

The addition of crossplay means Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer will soon feature full cross-platform progression. Once the update is live you’ll be able to invite your friends to join your crossplay lobby directly, regardless of platform and find available multiplayer lobbies with friends on other systems using the Larian Network.

The best game of the generation just got better.

12 new subclasses is insane.

I'm going to end up going over 1000hrs in this game. I'm around 750ish right now. Lol.

Larian - “were not doing DLC for BG3”

Also Larian - “here’s a bunch of free shit we could’ve easily charged you for”

Blessed devs. Stuff like this is why I will buy their next game day 1 sight unseen.
100% they're the only developer I would preorder going in blind at this point.

I really want them to make some Sci-Fi Star Trek type of game next.

Article lists 8 subclasses, we are missing 4 to make it 12.

edit: reread the article and it was 12, my bad

I think at this point I will just start over instead of picking up where I left off. I can’t remember a single characters name.

RIP Bilbo Bigballs

Hell yes, what a game. Amazing.

One of the rare few games that I truly had strong emotional attachments to some of the characters. Really a total package that has been polished beyond polish(within the limitations of the engine) and I'm going to just say it, this is my number 1 game of all time. Absolutely brilliant.

That's the kind of commitment that so rare nowadays. They made 20 times more money than expected and it's fully deserved. No microtransactions, no paying DLC, large free patches, mod support, coop couch play, huge content and tons of replayability, and just the skill, the will and dedication.
