? They are likely doing both, you still need a game to good, playable etc to even sell anything in the first place.
Even taking this long to add it seems odd as, shit if we are to say this is some big bad evil company to its core, why not add this day 1 to get the most users vs the least? I mean..how many are even fucking playing right now for this to make sense? So I don't see this as a instead of type thing as it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and I don't see anything saying improvement stopped for MTX as those departments likely are not even the same.

I get that this was almost 100% the plan from the get go but this game is such a horrifying mess that they should not even have this on their radar until the game is properly fixed and up to at least the minimum of peoples expectations…

They need to fix this game to get back some user base... I don't believe being free is even enough as free to play games fail all the time.
Fix it with more updates, patches, features added, focus on getting those classes back and corrected, adding maps...and then they can roll out some free to play thing. Its best to have the game in the best shape they can before even wasting time rolling that shit out. Imagine if they did this a few months ago, free to play with little features, broken elements and still waiting on a new map? All that would do is just have more people experiencing bad design imho.
So as shocking as it might seem for some on here...no, I'm not with the whole "free to play, den day will come" as this game's issue was never really the price. design, bugs, missing features etc. Making it free will just increase the amount of pissed off people lol I wish it really was as simply as that btw, but this game's issues are beyond price at this point. They need a No Man Sky Beyond level of reintroduction lol

Abandon this game, make DICE proper the support studio for Ripple Effect and start work on the Battlefield game that has the:
- Atmosphere of BF1.
- Customization of BF4.
- Sound Design of BF1.
- Player Count of what a sane person would set.
- Total Eclipse of BF4.
- Mobility of BFV.
- Benchmark Graphics of every BF games since 3.

I just don't see the game beyond redemption. They don't give a f about their customers, and they just want to milk the game. It's cursed with bugs and glitches.
If they couldn't handle their already established player base, then f2p would only delay the inevitable.
Look at Halo Infinite. Great game, but is dying fast because of lack of content and devs use more time on battle pass and all that crap.

A lot of truth.
This is one of theses odd situations where to bring out the content they had ready, was to support the past design, to wait to fix it...is to have the base die fast. With the Halo situation, I don't really know why its taking that long for that content as they don't even have some design issue like 2042 does to my understanding.
They need to focus on those fixes and features, roll out a free to play thing a year later when its maps and classes are fixed and new maps are ready with the new designs.
At this point, BF series needs to be a 1 or 2 title a generation thing and they need to leave the experimental stuff to a new IP.

I'm thinking COVID has really messed with game development. Most games have released broken with tons of updates afterwards (forbidden West) or just bare bones like halo and now BF. Now everyone is playing catch up, but they still needed to release the game and we are seeing how that looks.

I find this to be grasping at straws excuse. We know Covid messed up with game development. We heard from several companies. Hell, any and all businesses were impacted by COVID and remote working. But that doesn't mean you can release a half-ass game. Sure, all BF games had issues when they came out..and some were a mess (hi BF4) but there is a clear difference in mindset between the mess that was BF4 and the mess that is 2042. Dice/EA poured a lot of money into BF4 to win back the community. BF1 tried to avoid many issues BF4 had when it was revealed and launched (i personally really loved BF1). This game shows no remorse in its sad launch and current support.

I can actually get behind this. That would be fantastic.
Side note: I may be a minority on this but I did like that BF1 would introduce powerful vehicles to try to even the odds when one team was just dumpstering the other. The airship was so cool. Though I doubt they would ever consider bringing that kinda thing back.

I agree the game shouldn't be where it is today and not excusing the poor output. It was more of an observation due to how games have come out recently and with many games being delayed. They should of held off from releasing till they had it ready. I mean they are only hurting themselves at this point and disappointing fans.

FYI - THERE IS A NEW "OFFICIAL RIPPLE EFFECT" 64 PLAYER CONQUEST MODE IN PORTAL THAT USES 2042 SPECIALISTS AND VEHICLES ON THE PORTAL MAPS AND ITS AWESOME!
I highly recommend checking it out because it's a blast. There have been plenty of full servers in the US at all times so far. NO WAITING FOR PLAYERS, No stupid end of round quips. Full player progression intact. Complete and utter chaos that Battlefield is so well known for!

DICE no longer gets a pass because they're always releasing the game in a goofy stage and then the consumer gotta wait for them to patch and update the game to respectable levels. And I'm sure DICE wanted this {MTX) as well, but not in its current form since 2042 is seen as toilet water. I'm sure they didn't want to install them now as it makes them look tone deaf with the gaming being in such a lame state, but they have to continue with the plan because EA don't care if DICE is embarrassed or not, lol.
20 Year ago, EA was pumping out iconic games under their banner... games that I still play regularly when I have time..

Listen, I agree 110% with DICE not deserving a pass…I am just saying, DICE themselves probably see such a minuscule percent of the mtx money, that they would rather not have it, especially in a game that is dead 6 months in. We would both be liars if we say it’s not 100% EA calling the mtx shots on this game.

Agreed and even if EA wanted the most they can get from MTX, they wouldn't wait this long, they'd just have it in DAY 1 where they'd have the maximum install base. That generally goes down, not up.

Doesn't MS pay publishers for Gamepass stuff? What would even be the appeal of 2042 after this whole mess? That shit sounds like it makes more sense for EA to pay MS to promote it or something lol It needs to make sense first imho
I think the appeal of Gamepass may have made more sense at release while it was a new thing, not.....now, when its at that bottom of the barrel state lol I don't know how any of this works for marketing, game sales, I'm just guessing, so I'd have to believe that MS wants to market gamepass, but with good games, EA wants to get more playing 2042 etc. So I see it making more sense for EA to beg, then for MS to pay, but I'd need to know more on how those deals even work out. Maybe they'll make the gamepass reveal when they show off the new maps or something to generate hype or some re-release reveal type thing.
