and put Sony in a position where every single exclusive they release from here on out with people wondering if it's going to Xbox. Is that worth it for one game and a temp population boost?
This. Though that is already happening with PC (and will cause growing issues over the longer term), at least that's
PC. Xbox has historically been a direct competitor to PlayStation, so even if currently Xbox is a failure of a competitor in the console space, the optics of SIE putting big games like HD2 on there would just look very bad for them.
Plus it'd just give Phil Spencer more reason to keep yapping and yapping, which we don't need more of. The guy is in love with his own voice, I swear.
Anyway I think if there's any truth to this rumor, it's FF XVI. They don't specify if it's a 1P game, and SE really think pushing big multiplatform will miraculously catapult their games even if one of those platforms is a desert for B2P sales outside of a slim selection of (mostly Western) games. It's the one that makes the most sense, I'm just curious if it'll be a Game Pass thing or not because if so, that Xbox version isn't coming until sometime early 2025 at soonest.
I can see Helldivers or maybe Ronin going to Xbox. Or the latter to PC.
SIE own the IP rights to Ronin and it'd be disastrous if that was a game they put on Xbox as it'd open up a can of worms for GOW, Horizon, TLOU, Tsushima you name it to also get Xbox ports.
And we'd hear nothing but Phil Spencer crying about those games not being on Xbox as "anti-consumer" and "not benefiting anyone", same thing he's already done with Helldivers 2. We'd have to suffer with all the media shills and influencers parroting the same talking points like mindless bots, over and over again.
I'm just so tired and bored of that crap. Ronin to PC would be a mess optics-wise for SIE for
other reasons, but at least in-line with what they've kind of already been doing regarding ports of non-GAAS titles.
