On Thursday the Japanese development giant announced that it is developing a new entry in the Onimusha franchise, the first in several years. The game, which is set to release in 2026, will be a new entry in one of the many Capcom franchises that fans have requested new games from for some time.

Now, Capcom has said that it’s working on bringing more legacy franchises back in modern forms.

“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently,” reads a statement on the company’s investor relations site.

“The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.”

Earlier this year, the company asked what franchises that fans wanted to see return.

The publisher launched its ‘Super Elections’ survey in February on its Capcom Town website, asking players 10 questions about various aspects of Capcom.

One of these questions asks: “Are there any Capcom game series (including spin-off games) that you would like to see get a sequel or new game?” and gives 20 options.

At the time, Capcom shared a word cloud showing which games have appeared most often in the survey answers.

The words shown largest in the word cloud are those which have appeared most frequently, suggesting that Dino Crisis and Mega Man had been the most requested series.

I'd like to see them do a modern take on commando. lol

But I also think the 3d side scrolling beatem up could be big if done right. Time for a new final fight.

Capcom is one of the only companies I actually trust to do their old IPs justice.

This is unhealthy.

Onimusha was in the past, and maybe for a good reason. Do we really need it in amongst the Nioh franchise, Wo Long, Sekiro and a dozen other spins/overlaps on feudal Japanese swordsman fighting yokai?
I’ll take revivals of long dead franchises over more fucking remasters. And yea samurai are definitely having a moment.

There are too many people I hate that want "Dino Crisis" to be resurrected. So I hope Capcom leaves this particular franchise dead forever.

Please do another "Haunting Ground" though.

I agree. It’s been clear for a couple of years that they were exploring a remaster. The game was amazing - AT THE TIME. This genre is completely over saturated today.

All teams should be on a Dino Crisis remake.

I love that OP included the Dino Crisis logo. Today OP was a good guy.

To tell you the truth… Even though I like Onimusha the first thought I had when they announced it was … Thar means they‘re doing Dino Crisis fo sure!!!

If they make it a clone of those games like they try to "modernize" other IPs, definitely not.

But that's the problem, seeing something as nothing more than a vague premise like "it's feudal japan with swords", no one gives a shit about actual design and devs like Capcom are really understanding it now, so i predict it will be very Sekiro-ish.

Please bring back Dino Crisis and more Onimusha games.

I feel like Dino Crisis has potential to be great.

Also, Onimusha needs to stick to what made the first two games great, but get away from featuring actors like Jean Reno. Make a unique protagonist like Wolf from Sekiro, or the option to create your own character. The third game was great, but some of the locations like France were out of place and pulled me away from the iconic ancient Japanese setting.

I'd like to see them try a MegaMan FPS (or TPS) spinoff using the RE engine. Their developers are at the top of their game right now so I'd love to see what ideas they come up with. It could be amazing, it could be awful, I want to see it though.

Also, a Street Fighter game that's not a fighting game but some other genre (action platformer?, Metroid Vania? Soulslike?) could be fun!

This. I would love the option of a female protagonist in Onimusha. Like Nioh 2, but actually speaks.

So they are saying that creativity is pretty much dead out there. They can't create anything new and worthwhile, so they need to dig up these naphthalene covered IPs, because they are running out of resident evils to remake.
