I clutch mine hard on that. But yes, being older helps since there isn’t social pressure amongst friends to use the app. My kids know about TikTok but have no clue what Twitter/X is.

TikTok is great because of the algorithm.

Everything I see on it, is everything I want to watch. It's nothing like other Social Media platforms. IG, Threads, X and even YT, they all have shit algorithms.

So even if they sell it, it won't be the same for US users if they don't have access to the original algorithm.

Then again, I'm in the UK so I just want to see what happens if he does buy it. Lol

On one hand they refuse to use Facebook/meta, on the other hand they want to use a new Chinese app so their data is just given to the Chinese (again)? I personally don't care, this is quite unavoidable without going totally analogue. But the lack of awareness is weird. Or they don't mind China having the data, maybe.

Xiaohongshu ("RedNote") is a different app made by a different startup company in China, they have nothing to do with TikTok

The company behind TikTok (ByteDance) has the app Douyin in China. It is true that Douyin is completely different from TikTok, Douyin is extremely censored and mostly hosts educational videos and the default usage limit for Chinese users was originally 20 minutes per day, I don't know if that has changed or not since launch
