Console games being ported to PC is good for everyone

I see some PS fans are a bit angry or disappointed by the fact that Sony is releasing more and more games on PC. Maybe they feel a little betrayed, or that the games aren't that special anymore, and I understand that. But I think it's important to look at the big picture and realize this is beneficial to everyone, even console gamers.

When a game is ported to PC the preservation of such game increases dramatically. It's also the only platform that gets close to practically guaranteeing backwards compatibility for ever, and that such game will scale over time, looking and running better and better as new hardware enters the market. It will never be forgotten, or left to the will of getting patched by the publisher.

Right now I want to play the Arkham Trilogy, Crash Trilogy and RDR2 at 4K 60 fps on my 5 Pro, yet I can't, even though the machine is more than capable to do so. Why? Because they haven't received a simple patch, and their publishers don't show a bit of interest in releasing it, probably because they will gain little to no additional money from it. Meanwhile on PC those games are already pushing either 8K or extremely high frame rates on enthusiast builds, and over time that will only get better and more accessible. No one needs to beg for a patch.

As a TLOU fan, I was so happy when they announced Part II will be released on PC. This essentially means I will always be able to play the game, and that in the future I will be able to do so at settings beyond what PS5 Pro gave me if I want to and I'm willing to pay for it.

The same goes for Xbox games. Even if you don't want to build a PC right now, it's good for you that the option is available to build one someday in the future, with your favorite games looking and running better than ever.

If you really love a game, you'll want it on as many platforms as possible.

You don't really want to increase the framerate of Crash trilogy above 30fps anyway because it breaks the jumping physics the higher it goes. Same for the Spyro trilogy. More does not always equal better.
I was watching some YT videos and it doesn't seem broken. Anyways, you can always lock it to 30 and scale the resolution and graphics.

I don't like it because it defeats the purpose of owning a console. They've already transitioned to cut down PC hardware, so losing exclusive software too just leaves them with no appeal imo. Preservation wise, there will always be fan emulators to pick up the slack once the system exits the market anyways.

That's more of a Sony problem than the consumer problem. From the consumer POV it's great, one less device you have to buy if you don't see the point in it.

I will agree if it is some games. Not all.

PC gamers don't seem to care for most of these console games anyway. It's turning out to be a waste of time and money. If anything, console manufacturers should go back to their old business model and just port a handful that the PC community is craving for.

if the only purpose to owning a console is exclusive games, why do you care that there's a purpose?

Well, look on the bright side: The number of exclusives appears to be at an all time low these days. Which means there's less shit for maggots to thrive in. We'll eventually get it all cleaned up.

the more Sony and MS keep devaluing their brand/hardware the more Nintendo can continue dominating the console market which will inevitably remove Sony/MS from the market which unless they don't change their practices is something I would love to see

I don't see that as a good thing since it ultimately leaves you with less choice. A PC+PS combo used to be legendary in the PS2/PS3 days, as platform offered their own unique experiences. Nowadays, everything feels the same since there's little reason to even own a PlayStation anymore at this rate.

I don't understand what you're trying to say here

Consoles exist so that there is a cheaper entry to gaming than PC that is suppose to be plug and play.

Granted, over the decades it stopped being plug and play. But it is still the only why to play a game where if the game doesn't run, you have someone to complain to.

I said that while not having a console and gaming on a weak PC. Mostly because i don't have the time to sit in front of a TV like I used to as a teenager, and because AAA games are not my type. I prefer turned-based and neither console or PC really caters to me anymore.

Yes but only if you are a sane, well adjusted human.

We need to bend reality into knots to facilitate high-temperature bickering and warring.

For example: "Nintendo is doomed." It's not terribly important whether or not nintendo is actually doomed. It's taking a side and getting your head as far as possible up your ass that counts.

The funniest thing about threads like this is that people suddenly pretend that Nintendo doesn't exist or at worse, give them the honor of being the sole exception.
Would be awesome to have PC + PC handheld to cover everything but Nintendo just had the best generation ever as far as selling software. Over 21 exclusives that hit at least 10m sold, going as high as 65m. And they're relatively cheap to make.

Games we buy should have universal access like movies anywhere. Buy it once, play it on PS/Xbox/PC. It's the same game on every system, just pick where you want to play it.

As long as they remain low powered and inept at securing their systems their games will be preserved anyway.

I own all the major consoles (and pc) and I heavily disagree; competition is the absolute driver for success. Each system should have its 1st party (unique for PC) offerings that push it to its best limits, and it greedily guards them and refuses to share.

Nintendo have it right for the most part.

Yes, games should be released on as many platforms as possible. Not that it's stopping warriors from fighting each other over stupid things.

Game launches bad on PC: hahahahaah Pc MaStER rAcE :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:
Game launches bad on Console: fUcKIng DEvs SUCK!!! :messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying::messenger_loudly_crying:
PC threads are filled with console warriors making fun of bad ports while console threads are filled with PC warriors posting "Just get a PC". It goes both ways, unfortunately.

That's called a PC game. Console is a walled garden. And the down side with PC games is that if the game doesn't run well on your setup, you are on your own. Those on Consoles expect better treatment, like when Cyberpunk run like garbage so Sony refunded everyone automatically. PC game studios don't do that.

Nintendo would never release their games on another platform. I would love them to do so, but they won't.
It's not just you and it's not just this site, but journalists and other publishing companies too. Even Europe doesn't dare interfere with Nintendo's walled garden when they were so adamant about making sure others didn't have a walled garden. Hell, they barely get flack for their rather slap-in-the-face attempt at game preservation, which is essentially bringing a game out of a vault, cleaning it up, and selling it for 59.99 a second time around.

Since Xbox is starting to open it's doors there has been a sudden general push for others to do the same. I just find it funny that the push is very targeted, as in 95% Playstation and (maybe) 5% Nintendo. No one wants to even bring up the concept or idea of pressuring Nintendo of America constantly, from all corners of the internet, in order to make them even slightly budge on any of their backwards policies.

The thought doesn't even enter their mind.

Who knows, maybe Playstation will simply have to fully topple and be a smouldering husk before people finally turn up the heat on Nintendo.

It's because Sony is already willingly doing it. If Nintendo put something like BOTW or Splatoon on Steam then you'd get the same calls for them to open up the rest of their library.
