Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel is aiming for ‘the most realistic crowds in any game’

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Job listings for the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 have revealed that CD Projekt Red is aiming to deliver ‘the most realistic crowds ever seen in a video game’.

CD Projekt has recently posted a series of job openings for the upcoming RPG which gives the first indication of the ambition of the project.

While job listings are rarely completely accurate reflections of the finished games, one note in the listing for a lead encounter designer points to one of the milestones CD Projekt is looking to reach during development.

Among the daily responsibilities, successful applicants will be expected to “work in close collaboration with the systems design team to create the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date.”

It’s unclear if this refers to something like Red Dead Redemption 2‘s conversation system, wherein every NPC could be spoken to, or if the developer is simply looking for more realistic general reactions to the player’s actions.

Eh, its just a job opening.

I thought they were announcing this, which would have been nuts.

Am assuming actual game will be able to match GTA San Andreas.
Does GTA 5 even match GTA San Andreas in that regard? Maybe my memories betray me, but when I played it, it felt it took multiple steps backwards in its systems.

Not sure about that.

Its been a while since I played both.

Am assuming it should be able to match first gen GTA 3d style games since they might’ve learned something from first Cyberpunk.

Would be cool if they can develop this in tandem with Witcher 4. Definitely looking forward to this one more. KCD2 has taken the crown from the Witcher as best medical open world games IMO.

Good, hopefully they have a good behavior because in Cyberpunk 2077 even to this day, the npc behavior and traffic AI is a god-damn joke.

I am not asking RDR2 levels of realism but they can do much better than what we got

One of the things that irked me about Cyberpunk was how hollow and lifeless the world felt, for such an incredible environment, easily one of the best in videogames it just lacked that something to elevate it, hopefully to be addressed in CP2

Cyberpunk's world NPCs are complete morons. Was hoping the 2.0 update would rectify their incompetencies, but alas they still crouch in fear and drive like 90 year old grandmothers. Overrated game.

Not without euphoria you don't.

Npcs need both set dressing wjen you only watch them doing their thing and actual animations quality when you interact with them, and all devs are a couple of gen behind rockstar, and gta6 is gonna increase this gap even more.

Wd2 has an incredible npcs system from afar but when you see interacting between each other or getting shot or beaten or run over with a car you see the facade crumbling because the animations look pedestrian.

Curius to see what they are gonna do about it, because cyberpunk npcs animations are not even on the level of gta4.

I don't know if UE5 is the best for this. Sure, they can randomize some metahumans and make the crowd diverse but I'm not sure it will ever be properly opmized for huge numbers.

Can't wait for the sequel. I hope they make it next gen only this time around. I'm not expecting it until 2031/32 so that would make sense.

Hot take:

AC series did one thing good post black flag and that was the crowd density of AC: Unity. I'd go as far to say the best crowd density of any open world city to date.

That is the bar. They need to exceed that and not make it a technical clusterfuck.

I like Cyberpunk 2077 a lot, but they already told us the NPCs in that game would have real life cycles. They commuted to work, etc. Then we found out they just walked up and down the sidewalk for a block in a loop...
you stuck around to observe that? good on ya, i had shit to do

Youtubers pointed out it. Crowds generally look pretty normal unless you hit one of these pivot points.

I agree that it is not working that way in the game itself, even on PC. I just don't stop to care, I am taking care of business on a 82h playthrough. I got places to be.
