DF Retro EX: Xbox One Reveal Revisited - Is 'TVTVTV' As Bad As You Remember?

I am in the very small minority that I actually liked their ideas for discs becoming more like a digital key but it doesn't matter when the way they talked about it was so ass backwards. I still wonder if they would have made it super easy to understand and thought it through a bit more (the plans were still clearly not finalized as they had no answer to how trading in games will work) I wonder if it would of been received better.

Same here. I mean it was pretty much the same deal as Steam where I could reinstall Half-Life 2 after I had lost the disk. I also thought it was great that they had the idea that you could share games digitally with family since it would mean my brother and I could loan games to each other even though we both have our own houses. Of course the backlash to it nixed that idea.

Digital sharing is something I wish all of the big three did better.

Yeah. I remember this show - after some time you had a feeling you don't understand what is really happening.

It looked like a show targeted at shareholders that hate games.

I was SUCH a big Xbox360 fan, I loved Gears, Halo and the overall (sega like) attitude. Then.. this happened and it felt like a big "hey gamer, f*ck you we want TV and we want the mainstream audience". Furthermore, the devastating Don MAtrick speeech "hey, you don't have good internet for Xbox One? Just get the Xbox360, that's the machine for you".

Then right after, the PS4 E3 conference was soooooo good. Lower pricepoint and.. GAMES GAMES GAMES.

I really never wanted to go from XBox to Playstation, but the Xbox One "convinced" me and I haven't looked back since - especially after experiencing lots of the great single player games Playstation has to offer compared to Xbox.

And how are you feeling this time around? Sticking with PS5 or going back to XSX? I suppose it's difficult to answer until we have seen what happens at Microsoft's July showcase.

Great question, thanks for asking. I now feel I am so embedded in the Playstation ecosystem, that I will most likely will only buy a PS5. With so many digital games on my PS4, including all those PSplus games ánd the fact that I have embraced PSVR.. it makes it quite impossible for Xbox to offer me something that'll convice me to go back.

I really hope they bombard the place with excellent single player games, like Fable 4 and new, fresh IP. Then I just might pick up the XBox Series X after a while. But.. the PS5 is a sure thing, that's just what happened this generation, which (I thought) was fantastic.

I'll never forget it. Phil and Co made an absolute show of themselves up on stage. Talk shit the whole 360 gen then started off the next with this. Comedy gold.
😂 Well ya kind of did.... Phil wasn't the head of Xbox at the time.

Phil was just the manager of Microsoft game studios.

Play some early game like D4 or Halo Wars and you will see what shit they were pushing. Now they have fixed many issues (some very recently), but there are still some annoying things left.

It amazing that they still sell as many console as they did after shooting themself in the foot i was expecting Wii U level bad sales but they still manage to sell around 50 million when it all said and done that in itself is amazing. This coming gen i do not see them making any mistake like 2013 so expect Xbox 360 level sales.

Me as well. Xbox 360 have a reserved place in my heart. I lost how many times I wasted playing Left 4 Dead 2 and Gears 3. I had a great time playing 360. And was my first console ever, the others are from my father getting for me, but 360 was with my own money.

I guess that why this reveal was so heart breaking for me.

Watching this now. Linneman brings up a good point, which is that MS had all this data that said people were using their 360 for Netflix, and Kinect was obviously insanely successful, so they doubled down.

The thing I didn't understand and still do not understand, is why MS thought people would spend $500 for a Netflix and Kinect box, when their existing Netflix and Kinect box worked fine. And why they thought people would care about TV and HDMI-in when they were using Netflix, which is literally not TV.

By 2012 you could get a streaming box for like $50 that did all that Netflix stuff - why would anyone who doesn't really care about vidya spend 10 times that? It just doesn't make sense. This seems so amazingly obvious to me, but this is what happens when companies put the blinders on.

I think t it was quite appropriate to that aspect of the market, an Xbox One could turn any regular TV into a smart TV. As a matter of fact I thought the mistake was thinking there would be a big market for smart TV features, considering I don't know anybody who owns a smart TV and never saw one in real life except for demo rooms.

You must mean 'at the time of the One's launch '....right?
Otherwise, this is the most ok Boomer statement in the history of this forum. No hyperbole. Grandma knows how to operate a roku now FFS
