Just rewatching the first gameplay reveal trailer from 2021 and it just seemed so epic.

Also made the game seem like it'd have way more talking than what I remember in my ~250 hours playing

It was literally everything I expected it to be without the trailer tbh it’s open world dark souls, hot take I actually prefer a more Linear focused approach for the souls formula open world is overrated imo I prefer focus over scope.

definitely undersold, the game is sooo much more. I was more surprised at how vast the world was. The area to discover just kept on going
Fair. Though I kinda felt tricked by the open space by the end.
All that space and it felt kinda underutilized. For example the underground area was cool to initially find with that long lift ride down, and your mind starts racing with all the content and caves you can explore there. Then you run through it in like 30 minutes and never have to go back there again, except for sidequests

Undersold.
I remember being a bit underwhelmed by that trailer, because I was expecting something more unique and the trailer just made it look like Dark Souls 4.
But I think the final game did enough to stand out as a unique and really memorable experience. I really didn't expect the world to be that vast and fun to explore.

That trailer looks accurate to the final release to me. They obviously didn't show everything, but it's a nice representation/consolidation of the actual experience.

Undersold by a huge margin.

The depth of exploration, interconnectedness of the world, and sheer variety in combat and builds far outpaced what the trailer hinted at

Discovering the secret areas in Elden Ring is nothing short of magical. It’s that rare moment in gaming when curiosity is rewarded with something truly extraordinary

The trailer is shockingly representative of the game. It neither shows off things that are beyond the game's scope or particularly hides anything.

P.S. That said, it reminds me of the lame color palate and overbearingly dull orchestral soundtrack in the majority of the game.

Pretty accurate and we know fromsoft games like our pockets by now, so we know what to expect in most of the cases.

It definitely undersold it for me. I went into it thinking 'open world souls game, cool'. I was fucking blown away by it. Even on repeat playthroughs I'm stunned at how much game there is and how engaging the whole thing is. It's so vast and full of surprises.

Undersold. The game was far more epic, grander and magical than the trailer showcased. I knew it was going to be good, like Dark Souls good, but nothing prepared me for what I experienced.

The best game I’ve played in 10 years. Only developer to actually pull off the “open world” genre.

I've been a huge fromsoft fans since King's Quest and not even I was remotly prepared for what we got with Elden Ring.

Those that say they were, may have selective memories. The game was so much mightier than anyone expected, in every way.

Some of those who have fatigue nowadays from ER, were never soulsfans to begin with. They never really liked Souls, they were just forced to play Elden Ring(and hated it) by souls fans who control the current gaming meta zeitgeist with their opinions.

Remember before ER, these games were niche. You start letting the rabble in, they will be the first ones to complain. The empty can rattles the most. Let them go back to playing jax and daxter or some shit while we play the new ER game next year. The world is healing.

Undersold it slightly. Trailer was amazing but still didn't encapsulate everything that the game would end up becoming.

It blew me away how much there was to do. I think the only thing I have left to do in the main game is a hero’s tomb or 2

Undersold by a big margin, I was expecting a bigger dark souls but it turned out to be dark souls 4,5,6 in one package

(Open world > Linear any day of the week, dark souls 3 was such a slog)
