Matt Smith's time as The Doctor has come to an end in the glorious "The Time of the Doctor" Xmas special and Matt has regenerated into Peter Capaldi, the new Doctor.

What will Capaldi be like? Well this quote by him as Malcolm Tucker in "The Thick of it" should give you a preview....
Malcom Tucker said:
Don't fucking get... Look, half an hour ago you were in with a shot! This is half an hour hence! We've fucking time-travelled, yes? We're in a weird and wonderful world where everything is different! Maybe outside the polar ice caps have melted! Maybe there's fucking robots knocking about and Davina McCall is the new Pope! Maybe you can download rice! I want you, right now, to think about your own future, ok? Think about what you are doing, get yourself back on the train to fucking Thomasville pronto, yeah? "Half an hour"...

Series 8 has begun filming and should be on track for a debut later in the year.

There's a type in that quote - Davina McCall, not McColl. Great OP though. :)

*rolls out TARDIS themed sleeping bag*

Better make myself comfy I guess. Got a long wait ahead of us.

Let's rank every single episode from #800 to 1!

I'm amused by the fact Capaldi played a W.H.O. Doctor recently in World War Z :) Looking forward to the eventual return (in some way) of Gallifrey; in the meantime I guess I'll just rewatch The Five Doctors :)

I don't know if I would call it that, but yeah, it did happen.

Watching through the series for the first time, I'm on the last few episodes of Tennant's doctor. So far I'm finding it pretty hit and miss. Some episodes are really, really good, others are a struggle to get through.

I kind of wish the 9th Doctor lasted longer, he was pretty cool. I like Tennant more, but that just be because I've had more time to get to know him.

Companion opinions:
Rose > Martha > > > > > > > Donna (I just don't like Catherine Tate at all).

The angel statue things are the best villains.

I need to know what they talk about on the phone. Goddammit, I want to see this scene.

RIP Matt Smiths Doctor, this Doctor will have some big shoes to fill.

It's going to be really hard to get used to. I'm not a Capaldi fan yet, because I haven't seen him in anything, so it's going to be even harder to get used to him.

Matt got me into Who the way Tennant almost did and made me love the character and I loved his companions and it's like the end of a family in a way.

She was cute as hell in Asylum, but this episode made me suddenly forget about Amy completely and she became my new "Hottest Companion Ever" very quickly.

as a brand new who fan who marathoned the series. I can say I can't wait. I'll miss Matt because he felt like a crazy mad man with a box who really did just want to go around having a great time.

bring on the new doctor I'm ready for more who.

Wow, new episodes of Doctor Who are sparse. We waited so long for The Day/Time Of The Doctor, and now we have to wait months for Peter Capaldi's episodes to start airing.

Donna is the worst. Best thing she did was make it easy to always know who will forever be at the bottom of my companion list.

Well there's a new thread so might as well start posting. I recently marathoned the entirety of NuWho for the first time and I'm hyped as can be for the show to return with Capaldi. As a newly converted fan, my favourite Doctor of the modern three is probably Smith, with Eccleston in second. I enjoyed Tennant's run and I think he's a great Doctor, but I prefer the other two. I'm sad to see Smith go but I know Capaldi is going to be marvelous. I feel as though Smith stayed for the perfect length of time and it makes sense for him to leave now, which is how I felt with Tennant as well. Three series seems to be the perfect number, at least for me. Hopefully Capaldi signs for two more series after his one year contract is up.

I've started watching some Classic Who as well, though I'm not marathoning it. I'm starting out with the stuff that's available on the Canadian Netflix first, which includes Tomb of the Cybermen and The Ark in Space, which I've watched already, as well as The Three Doctors, City of Death, The Pyramids of Mars and The Robots of Death. I've heard City of Death is one of the fourth Doctor's best stories so I'm particularly looking forward to that one. What I've seen so far of Troughton and T. Baker I've really enjoyed. They are very distinctive Doctors and just from watching one serial of theirs each I've come to enjoy them both. Going off the one serial I think I prefer Troughton, which makes sense. A lot of eleven is taken from him and I quite enjoy eleven so it stands to reason I would enjoy the original as well. I am quite sad at the fact that a lot of his episodes have gone missing, though I'm aware that some have been found. I'll probably start buying some second Doctor DVDs when I'm done with the Netflix stuff.

I'm interested in watching all of the classic Doctors, except the seventh. He doesn't seem that interesting, though I've heard his scripts are great? I'll get around to watching a little of everyone eventually, but I plan on watching the majority of T. Baker's and Troughton's stuff.

The seventh Doctor is awesome I think, his early stories aren't that great but when he's with Ace he's really good.

Yaaaaaaaaaaas so excited. Also, omg, those gifs. I love Peter Capaldi.

I feel like there are so many people watching The Thick of It right now and they're going to be so disappointed when The Doctor isn't calling people cunts or saying fuck every other word.

It's perfectly acceptable to hibernate through winter, spring and summer, right? Because I'm just gonna go ahead and do that and resurface when it's time for season eight.

Nice one. I remember the tail end of Pertwee's run as a kid, but Tom Baker was 'my' Doctor. I'm rewatching a lot of his stuff currently.

A lot of modern converts can't get past the ropy effects and sets of the older shows, but that's beside the point. It's the stories that are important, and the acting. Give me a Genesis of the Daleks over a Rings of Akaten any day.

Edit:

Forgot to mention. Everyone should grab the Big Finish audio plays. There are a ton, so pick a favourite Doctor and go from there.
The Paul McGann stuff is excellent, and the 50th anniversary story "The Light at the End" is AMAZING! :)
