The first console version of Doom available, this was the very first time I had a Doom to call my own. Was it as bad as some make it out to be? Let's find out.

32x beat the Jaguar by a week. Both came out in 94. Snes version didn’t come out until 95.

It had more levels and monsters than the 32x version despite being vastly inferior hardware. And the music in the snes version was great by comparison.

It also ran at about 10 frames a second

12-15fps on average. The 32x version was about 18-20fps with a CPU like 5x more powerful lol

It is my most played version by far. Doom on 32X runs fine and is great fun.

There are hacks out there adding the missing levels. Not yet totally functional though.

It barely runs at 20fps. That's terrible. Most of those doom versions at that time were awful except Jag and PS1.

I love Sega Lord X, awesome content. This was a really nice vid as well. I totally agree; there are much better ánd worse versions out there of Doom. I would have loved to be able to play it back in the day. Didn't have a 32x unfortunately, didnt have the cash.

Man, shrinking the screen was a bummer, especially on a CRT!

I play on CRT and it's ok. And I don't play it much anymore, I used to play it a lot when I got my 32X in 95/96 though.

If only they had used a 32mb cart and given a bit more time. The 32x was capable of a much better port.

Digital Foundry did a video on all the Doom versions, you'd be surprised how different they all were on consoles. Some had levels cut, different enemy placements, sounds etc but most played to their strengths at the time.
