Just announced:

Martians have been visiting Earth for decades, abducting animals and humans and harvesting their atomic essence to create bizarre Martian-creature hybrids. This time they’re here to claim our planet.

In this turn-based strategy game, an unlikely group of commanders will lead Earth’s military as they face an overwhelming Martian invasion. Fight high-tech saucers, grav-tanks and elite alien warriors in a battle for the planet’s survival.

Your secret weapon is the “Splice-O-Tron". With it, you can combine human "volunteers" with animals to create powerful hybrid super soldiers to fight alongside Earth’s regular military.

Rain acid from the skies with the fast-moving cheetah-fly. Charge through enemy lines with devastating human-rhino hybrids. Or strike from the forests with your deadly squirrel-cow infantry.

As the campaign progresses, you’ll unlock new types of creatures, powerful unit upgrades and game-changing commander abilities. But as your army evolves, so will your enemy’s, and you’ll face everything from the sentient organic weapon known only as “The Creep” to the Martian’s own mutant creations.

Is this what Relic Entertainment have been relegated to? This is just sad.
Well, to be fair, this is a "Relic Labs" thing. That shouldn't directly interfere with whatever the main team (or what is left of it) is working on. They're an "indie" now, not belonging to Sega anymore.

Maybe the kids will like it.

Even then I feel its going to struggle to attract that audience when the big live service games are spawn camping that sector.

Anyone looking for more Advance Wars should check out Warside. It looks like a straight clone but it does add a lot of new units and some extra mechanics. I’ve played some early builds and there’s a demo you can try. It’s a good time if you ask me!

Wah? This looks great lol.

Summer release is perfect for this also.
Obviously i havent played it, it might be silly fun, but to go from Homeworld and Dawn of War to this is quite something.

Read up on the FAQ and also found this on the steam page:
Earth vs Mars is our first smaller Inide-style Relic Labs game. Relic Labs games will differ from our traditional, big bread-and-butter RTS games (which we'll continue to support and develop). Relic Labs games will allow us to explore new sub-genres, experiment, get our creative juices going, and release games more frequently.
So looks like its just their extra/mini game which is cool, with context i am glad it exists, still not my jam.

It might be a somewhat strange take, but I feel these types of games (Advance-Wars-like) absolutely need stunning pixel art in order to be truly appealing - well, at least to me.
