[Weekly software and hardware sales] Dragon Quest 3 Remake sells 820,000 units, taking the top spot! New release Beyblade X also makes it into the top 10 [11/11-11/17]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of the estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from November 11th to November 17th, 2024. The highly anticipated HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III: And into the Legend which originally released for the Family Computer in 1988, has finally been released.

The Nintendo Switch version ranked first and the PlayStation 5 version ranked second with combined sales of 821,770 units for both versions. It is packed with elements that will give a fresh feeling even to those who have played the original version and we can expect continued sales in the future. It is likely that the cumulative sales will exceed 1 million units as early as next week.

From third place onwards there are four titles featuring characters from the Super Mario series which ranked, including Super Mario Party Jamboree and Mario & Luigi RPG Brotherhood!. Luigi's Mansion 3 which released in 2019 also returned to the top 10 for the first time in a long while suggesting the enduring popularity of the series.

Also making its debut in fifth place is Beyblade X XONE, an action game in which players fight using Beyblades, a modern take on the traditional Japanese spinning top toy and it sold 9,507 units.

PS5 Pro vs. PS4 Pro comparison:

PS5 Pro Week 1: 78.086
PS5 Pro Week 2: 13.878
Total: 91.964

PS4 Pro Week 1: 65.194
PS4 Pro Week 2: 11.116
Total: 76.310
Almost the same % of drop, the difference is for the PS4 Family vs PS5 Family, the PS4 was selling more. Next week the PS5 family could go sub 15K, and that’s really bad with a new console in the market.

Is that the only difference you can see? How about price? That the PS5 Pro is outperforming the PS4 Pro in Japan despite its price is a massive achievement and you know it. This is all before the Monster Hunter Wilds release, which will give the PS5 a boost in Japan.

Other games that will give the PS5 a boost in Japan in 2025:

GTA6
Ghost of Yotei

I certainly expected big numbers, but the Japanese exceeded all my wildest expectations. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

PS5 family is selling at crazy prices between 80k and 120k yen.
The PS4 was at 39k yen?
Price has an impact on sales.

I mean this dude is trolling, but even trolling has limits, right?

I believe the PS4 standard at the time was 29.9K yen. The Pro was 44.9K

The PS5 is 79.9K yen and the Pro is 119.9K yen...

Impressive launch numbers for DQ3 (821k units across both Switch and PS5). Hopefully it has decent legs and manages to hit the 1M mark soon!

I am just pointing out that the PS4 family sold almost 40K in the second week of the PS4 Pro on the market vs the 23,500 of the PS5 family and PS5 Pro second week on the market… Despite the price, i am pretty sure that Sony prefer the PS4 situation by far. Also remember that PS5 was not selling really good before the price hike.

Oh look, it's our daily reminder that Square Enix are run by retards or chimpanzees.

Undershipping DQ3 on Switch was such a smooth brained move. That 821k would've been a lot higher otherwise. Way to sabotage your biggest release of the year after you badly needed a win.

Sony could cut the price of the PS5 if they were concerned with per unit sales. They're no longer selling the PS5 at a loss and the PS5 Pro is high margin.

You're acting clownish to say the things you're saying.

I’d assume that if it’s doing these numbers physically it surely must’ve passed 1M in total already.
It's been sold out everywhere in Japan so I'm not sure if it passed 1M by now. I guess we'll have to wait and see if they manage to move another ~200k copies this week.

If they preferred the PS4 situation they would have eaten the costs to have PS4-like prices.
You're not making much sense here, it's obvious it's the exact opposite, they prefer a higher margins business and what they're losing in Japan they're gaining in other growing Asian markets like China and Korea.

They'll be contending with Used vs. New sales now. I don't think it'll result in a huge loss of potential sales, but it's gonna hurt them regardless. It depends on how soon they can print more copies and get them out there.

Even when a victory is handed to Square on a silver platter, they still manage to find a way to lose. Sometimes I think if I opened the door that says "Management" at Square HQ, it'll be a bunch of chimps in suits screaming and throwing papers.

People are definitely dragon questing in Japan lol. This is probably the last week we will see Romancing Saga 2 hang in the top 10, but I am happy it stuck around as long as it did. The game is great!

What strikes me is if you add up PS4 and PS5 sales...the Switch is still curb-stomping both of them. No wonder they don't want to let go of the Switch.

So… Are you telling me that everything’s is going as Sony planned and is ok having those sales?🤣

Lol…

They were eating cost until the Yen dropped to the point that they can’t assumed more the losses… Is not a matter of an amazing strategy as some of you want to think, was because an external factor.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Everyone celebrating in the previous thread and saying people pointing out it probably won't last had some kind of agenda, lol, now back to damage control, high price, low yen, whatever.

Switch still a beast, dang. Nice sales for DQ on it too. Seems like the chance for other platforms is if the Switch successor doesn't have great success from launch but builds up to it like 3DS.

Absolutely. Sony's at peak profitability right now and 2025 looks like it is going to be a major year for them.

Don't know what to tell you man, you're living in your own little echo chamber.

Go check out the GT thread, suddenly the PS5 Pro errors aren't bad third party patches but minor issues that it's pointless to nitpick over.

If not for shortages would dragon quest 3 have reached 1 million? Anyhow really glad to see dragon quest popping off in japan as always, hope it did great/amazing in the west too.

Yeah, but that’s only physical copies.

Surely the addition of digital would push it to 1M+ already.

yep. It's actually impressive how well PS5 Pro is selling comparatively to PS4 Pro. There is a market for it, and it really doesn't depend of the price.

Oh, yeah, I agree that it should be at 1M+ units sold when including digital sales. I was just talking about physical sales, since we're in a Famitsu thread that only tracks retail sales.

The game was undershipped by Squeenix on Switch, so based on that, it should have good legs since there's still demand for the physical version on Switch in Japan.

Wow very impressive for DQ3 will be over 1mil easily with digital, then there's also Steam sales in Japan to factor.
