Favorite Barenaked Ladies song?

Mine's 'Leave' from their album Stunt. I relate it to me and my wife's early relationship (please don't tell her that). From what I can tell lead singer Ed Roberts wrote it after his brother died. but AI thinks differently...

I also really like 'Light up My Room' but at this point pretty much any song on their Stunt album. Might be the first CD I ever bough with my own money as a kid. Plus early teen me though it was funny to tell people I liked Barenaked Ladies. 'Light up My Room' gives the nostalgia of being the poor kid that doesn't realize they were a poor kid. Finding happiness in simple things. What's your favorite Barenaked Ladies song?

Probably What a Good Boy or Break Your Heart. Stunt is still a good album, but I think they started to lose their way when they got really famous.

I agree, they had major hits with songs like One Week and they seemed to change their style up a bit and it felt like they were interested in "gimmicky" stuff and it's not that they didn't always have some of that it just seemed to be more of a focus. It didn't help that Steven Page got busted for cocaine and was asked to leave the band as he was a driving force behind a lot of the writing.

Rock Spectacle is their best imo. Banger from start to finish.

Shoebox is probably my overall fav but Wrap Your Arms Around Me or The Flag are others that are up there for me.

Their early stuff is all I care for tho.

Stunt was one of the first CDs I ever bought. I was obsessed with "One Week" but then realized the entire album was great. Also a big fan of Light Up My Room. I think about the song often when I walk through my subdivision, as it has a "hydrofield" cutting through it.

I always thought the Barenaked Ladies were just Blues Travelers without any of the good.

So I guess...Ants Marching.

That is my contribution to the thread.

So many good choices. I followed these guys really close for a long while, got exposed to them very early when I worked in retail and in general they were just so damn positive, nice, and really appreciative of their fans (esp. compared to other bands/performers). Page leaving was the death of the band, while they went their own directions none of their releases (page for his solo stuff and the rest of the ladies) really resonated with me like the first albums did.

Also Page performing all of Gordon in 2022:
