Genki claims the Switch 2 mock-ups is based on rumors and leaks

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

Genki, a peripheral manufacturer that previously boasted about having access to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch successor, is now walking back the legitimacy of its own Switch 2 mock-ups, Automaton West reports.
During a Jan. 10 interview with Japanese gaming site Game*Spark at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a Genki representative admitted no one at the company has actually seen the Switch 2 yet. The dimensions of the physical replica they were showing off at CES 2025 and the digital render on its website were merely based on other leaks currently proliferating through the industry.
This confession comes hours after Nintendo shared a statement with CNET Japan saying it hadn’t given Genki early access to any upcoming hardware.

I really liked their concept, but they have to be practically 100% correct. The leaks are so many and so similar that it's very unlikely something is going to be different.

I wish Nintendo designed the joy cons to be more bulky. The design is fine, but being flat makes them really uncomfortable.

This. A company goes through R&D, marketing and everything and spends tons of money on the basis of... leaks and rumors.
That's my initial thought, but my experience is in complex products that take years to develop and design. How hard is it to tweak the design of a plastic or silicone component? It probably takes days to design and weeks to have something in hand.

I still think they are lying and have real specs to go on, but I don't think the effort is too much to base something on a not final design.
