I'm a kleptomaniac in games like Cyberpunk/Fallout etc.

I can't help myself. I steal and sell everything not locked down. I steal from friends, enemies, npcs etc. It's so bad in the middle of tense fire fights I stop and steal shit off the dead bodies I killed. My companions let me in their houses or business and I steal their shit too. It's so bad that every time I enter a new area I am casing the joint or area for shit to steal and plunder. I loot everything and search every drawer.

Anyone else have this issue?

Starfield finally broke me out of this loop and made me realize that unless it’s extremely unique or quest related, it’s just a way to spend too much time making money you could have made in other, potentially faster ways.

I see you grew up on JRPGs.

I was like that in the past but then i understood that most games economy is usually fucked and exploitable so there is no need to pick and sell everything.

Last game i played where stealing was useful is probably bg3.

Not really stealing, but if it isn't tethered I'm picking it up and throwing it around. I also flush every toilet and turn on every faucet.

Great you started to inherit PC peep traits fast. Horde money in games, lose it in real life 🤣

The Eldar Scrolls series helped turn me into the arch klepto I am today... I now unashamedly judge games based upon my ability to loot. Is that game a 3|10 but you can break into people houses and steal their stuff? Instant 10|10 in my book. Hell, I'll buy 2 copies. I am what the gaming landscape has made me and I simply won't apologise.

take what you can give nothing back GIF

I always do that as well.

In fact, I always pick the thief/ninja/ranger class if I'm able to in any game.

Lockpicking/stealing/stealth killing is so satisfactory that I can't get enough. Even in fighting games, Ninja is the way to go.

New Tenchu when ?

I am like this too, except most games seem to have some items not worth grabbing. In Baldurs Gate 3 I was grabbing every single plate and fork and apple and jaunty hat, but there are some things like Cauldrons and human torsos and crap that weigh 10+ pounds and don't even sell for 1g/lb. Fallout 3 had items like this too. I will always create a arbitrary limit where weight/sale price has to equal something to make me pick it up. Usually still end up being 80% of the items.

I always hated that about WRPGs of that type. Pointless waste of time, yet we feel compelled to do it because you never know.

I'd rather they don't make everything lootable, just place one or two clearly signposted chests and be done with it.

Depends on the game.
I just beat Hogarts Legacy so its fresh on my mind. In that game i was obsessed with grabbing every bit of money laying around and finding loot. Even mid fights lol

Kingdom Come Deliverance has to be king of thieving. You can loot bodies, lockpick, Pocket thieve, and Rob items. Far and away the best game I have played when it relates to this

Looting everything that can't be nailed down is the epitome of these sorts of games to me. I want to take it all, or at minimum, hide it somewhere else.

I stole a croissant from a guys table right in front of him in Indiana Jones. He was mildly upset but I was dressed as a priest at the time so maybe he suppressed his urge to hit me. I did have the decency not to eat it in front of him.

I'm stealing everything in AC Odyssey. I'm a fiend for trying to rob everything in a GTA or Payday 2 heist. Funny you mention kleptomania because I noticed there's a trophy I earned in Bully by that name.

I'm the oppositive of OP. Only dungeon loot, rewards and the content of my enemies pockets for me.
Games should have a morality system in place to quietly judge you when you steal the wrong stuff. Delay the consequences by hours so you can't do a quick-load.

What if it turns out I need that useless doodad by the time final boss hits?

And if you don’t have at least 100-200 health packs going into boss fight, you are failing! 😉

Cyberpunk solves this by making anything (mostly) able to be broken down to crafting items.
I will pick up anything I see even low level guns.

Is it immediate or is it something where you have to haul a full inventory to a different location and meet a person who breaks down those items? Because the latter process is why I stopped bothering anymore. The latter is a hidden grind.

In game you gotta be a klepto, you never know when a lengendary item gonna be hidden. Cyberpunk is nice for this as all the trash you collect you can dismantle for resorces.

Stealing in BG3 is nice.
I just got to end game on PoE2 and noticed someone sent me a copy of BG3 as a gift, after closing out the game and looking at my Steam profile for a bit.
I'm going to give it a try tonight. Already installed.

You can break them down in menu. The menu is kind of loud, so I guess I can understand if you don't notice it right away. I didn't, at first.

The funny thing in Cyberpunk is that nobody seems to mind when I steal from them. I could be in their office taking their money and eating their food and they could not care less.

They need to make a game where you need to be discreet and clever with your theft if you want to get away with it.

Shoplifting would be a good edition to GTA VI. They can even have a fake pregnant belly for Lucia.
