Killing Floor 3 Closed Beta Impressions

Anyone on GAF get into the closed beta? Really curious to know your thoughts, especially if you're an OG fan. I've been seeing a lot more negative than I have anything positive, and I was just really curious to know if anyone here has checked it out yet to give some of their impressions. Sounds like a HUGE let down from the majority...

Here's some raw gameplay with no commentary...

Somethings I've read...

-----

"The gun system is an absolute joke. The game performance is obviously abysmal too can't get consistent frames it goes from 20 to 80 fps and when I locked it to 60, it still was stutters as all hell, the shaders took 10 minutes to compile and that was fine what's not fine is the performance.

Guns feel awful to use, no kick to them just laser guns.

Enemies don't react to anything it feels like the game is unresponsive when you shoot, no stagger, no impact, makes the whole game feel lifeless.

The netcode is atrocious, lag stutters game freezing no way this is one month before release.

Killing Floor 3 is an unpolished, glitch-ridden, vomit-inducing wreck. Within minutes, I had a pounding headache from the relentless visual glitches and speed-up bugs, the game doesn’t just play bad, it truly feels bad to experience. Do not support this lazy, soulless cash grab.

This isn’t a worthy sequel, it’s a corporate slaughter of everything that came before."

-----

"This game made me want to go play Killing Floor 2....

I am actually so sad rn the approach they took with this series... fuck man."

-----

"I just got done playing the beta and oof... It's disappointing. It feels Zzz.... Sleepy and generic as hell. You would never know there was a KF1 or KF2 from playing this KF3 experience. It's slow, snooze worthy, plain, and boring. Even shooting the zeds doesn't feel satisfying. I expected more from their gore system.

It feels completely soulless.

I've got a total of 2,500+ hours with Killing Floor 1+2.... And KF3 so far, is painful."

Edit: also what is this effect I'm seeing where if I low on health my vision becomes blurred or starts to become static like I'm viewing out of some kind of digital camera or something? Also, the blur made me feel sick so I turned it off..

-----

This is sounding like another unfortunate situation where a sequel just doesn't feel like its deserving of the IP's name. Some people are defending it saying, "it's a closed beta, wait for full release to gauge", but a lot of people are saying that it doesn't feel like something like that. Which is unfortunate but wouldn't be too shocking as we've definitely seen that before, and multiple times. :pie_tired:

What is it with every tried and true established franchises dropping the ball on newer entries? Do the dev teams just get completely replaced so commonly?
That's what I really want to understand. I don't get how it happens time, and time again. There have been SO many bad examples out there, I don't understand how studios just keep going down that path.

Its always the 3rd game for some of these companies, they change too much. Dungeon Siege 2 is my favorite Diablo RPG and they butchered it with 3.

Come on! I been waiting for KF3 for a super long time. I been playing KF2 for a long time and I’m ready for a new game. Now KF3 is playing like crap is unacceptable for real. I hope it get better before the release date.

It looks awful, which pains me to say as a big fan of KF1 and 2. I genuinely have a hard time believing this is from the same studio that produced the first two games. Everything from the weak sound design and shoddy animations to the completely unnecessary move to specialists makes it look like a cheap knockoff.

I wonder how much of an effect the studio founder John Gibson leaving had. Dude was done dirty.

Well, its a beta right? Isnt the point of that for them to receive feedback.

The game releases in just over a month, probably not too much will change from what we see in the beta.

It is a beta, and you're right about that. However, the issues a lot of people are having are core gameplay elements, and something I don't think would be "corrected" in the time that they have before release. It sucks to say, but kind of like how Battlefield 2042 was received. A lot of people are starting to compare this to that.

Maybe, just maybe.....hear me out....

Make a new IP. Lowers expectations, gives you some freedom to change things without hearing 'omg they changed things'.

I loved KF2, but these impressions don't make me want to spend money on 3

Ive played 10 or so hours. It's got the bones to be fun, but right now it's a bit disappointing. The visuals at times do not look very good for UE5, (after just coming off of Avowed it's wild how much better that game looks using the same engine). Also the usual weird artifact glitches with Lumen and stutters which is typical UE5 that hopefully gets resolved. Some dumb mechanics like the health dart, whereas the older games had a cooldown mechanic on when you could heal that I wish was back in this game.

I had no idea it was supposed to launch in a month, that changes it yeah.

Yeah i was unaware on its releasedate. Its a shame, KF2 was great

I haven't even bothered to use my beta code for the PS5 I'm that underwhelmed. Nothing I've watched on YouTube has impressed me very much and certainly not a day one purchase that's for sure.

Why you think valve doesn’t know how to count to 3?

Hot take: knowing what makes a game feel good to play is becoming a lost art. GAF loves to rail it’s hate boner against DEI and predatory MTX/live service but where’s the criticism of just so many modern releases feeling mediocre to play?

Received a closed beta key and checked it out myself, I probably didn't play more than 10-15 minutes. It was definitely nothing like I was hoping it'd be. Almost everything feels floating and with absolutely no weight. From shooting, to just moving around, it feels so odd. Also the whole "MEAT 2.0" system that they talked up really heavily isn't noticeable at all from what I could tell. It looked no different than blood and gibs you see in hundreds of indie titles. Shooting feels hollow/empty, explosions feel the same, everything feels like it has little to no impact. Everything that makes KF fun is just completely absent here, it really should just be a completely different game cause it certainly doesn't feel like a sequel. A lot of the visuals look very rough, as do the animations, and you can see that they plan to monetize the hell out of the game. It's pretty damn gross.

I already uninstalled it and don't care to go back. Glad I got this though, because I wanted to see how I felt about it, and I'm really happy I didn't waste money on it. Can it improve down the line? Maybe. I really don't know though, I totally get why a lot of KF 1 and 2 fans are upset.

It just really sucks to see games take huge steps backward, especially in their later iterations. Especially with new engines, tech, potential mechanics, etc. We're supposed to be going forward, not backward.
