  • The sequel will feature a more 'westernized' story and will address player feedback from the first game.
  • The game will focus on quality over quantity, with improved onboarding and a more inviting visual style.
  • Developers intend to appeal to a wider market by implementing community-requested features.

According to Ryan Hill, Marketing Director at CI Games, “Project 3 will address all core player feedback from Lords of the Fallen (2023) while also doubling down on the features players loved most. It will take a quality over quantity approach, with greater appeal to a wider addressable market with improved onboarding, a more inviting visual style, and westernised storytelling.”

I wound up really liking LOTF 2023 when I played it last summer, so really hoping the sequel isn't a dud.

I found everything about the first game great. My favourite Souls of all time 🙌
The first first game or the second first game?

Also, were fans really asking for a more westernized story? I also don't think PC fans were asking for the sequel to be EGS exclusive either.

I'm retarded?
Westernized Story, Epic Store Exclusive, Double down on what "a small but loud fanbase loved". So, trash in other words. Enjoy the quick Epic cash and going broke then dumbasses.

The Lords of the Fallen studio CI Games will not integrate DEI elements in their games to maximize player enjoyment and commercial success after having observed the high commercial risk these elements can present.

Westernized could just mean more of what they were already doing. From Souls games are rooted in very westernized story telling and settings.

"Modern audience" is the adage to be leery of.

I tried the first one. It felt like an Alibaba/Temu version of Dark Souls 3.

So much about it felt off to me as if it was trying to be everything, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Dark Souls, Elden Ring… controls felt clunky and imprecise.

Our community in a nutshell. The grifters have trained us well.
It's not just that. We have had entire industries to draw this ire from in show after show, game after game, comic after comic, movie after movie, etc., etc..

But times are hopefully changing and they're starting to heal.

Before people freak out over a vague "westernized storytelling" comment.
The question right under that one:
xA7izcc.jpeg
I'm not even sure those two questions align.

That DEI statement just seems to be rote: 'A part of our audience is really into anti-woke stuff, so we'll throw this piece of meat to them". Pandering nonsense(I don't even know what kind of DEI elements they had in previous LotF games had)-What, they gonna cut Dunmire?).

Pretty much all games have some kind of political social agenda, either blatantly apparent, or subtle and nuanced, moreso in story focused games and games with 'compelling characters', since 'social and polical' messages cover a dizzying array of topics.

I don't know what they're getting at with 'westernized storytelling'. My best guess is that they'd eschew the storytelling of Souls games, and go with something more straightforward, but I thought the first Lords of the Fallen was exactly that to begin with.

I thought the first LOTF game was truly awful. I tried to get into last year's entry when it ended up on Gamepass and made it about twelve hours in and dropped it. I can't pinpoint what I don't like about the combat but something just feels off to me. I thought the whole two worlds thing was obnoxious and confusing to navigate as well.

I'm just saying some people here will read "westernized storytelling" and instantly assume that to mean the game will "go woke" (you can already see it in the some of the early replies).
When I doubt that's the case.

I also think by "westernized storytelling" they probably mean going for a more straightforward narrative, though that's an weird way to put it since Japanese games also have a long history of straightforward storytelling (look at almost every JRPG). Maybe they mean also adding some dialogue tree options which is certainly more common in western RPGs.

Sure, however having certain figures not only amplify this sentiment on a weekly basis, but also attempt to ensure that the gaming community barely sees any positive news, is the other large unspoken factor.

Once things 'start to heal', I have a feeling people will be convinced that things never healed and they'll be given a new target to constantly point anger at. We will see.

There are grifters everywhere on all sides that feed off of people's emotions for engagement, that is certain.

The entire movement is based off of emotional manipulation.

Westernized story... They better mean Cowboys and Indians... not that Concord, Gaf's favorite DustBorn & Volcano High type Western SBI BS.

Who am I kidding.. its the latter.

Emotional vampirism. Usually that's a red flag in relationships and dating. Somehow it continues to work in social media and most people are unaware. This is why I think that there is secretly no end to it as there is always money to be made.

This year is stacked with high profile game releases from all corners of the world including a console release/rollout. Take note of how many people here are going to claim 'it was a bad year' when late November comes around.

Precisely, FROM is basically channeling Middle Ages Europe / Catholicism, the Hebrew view of the universe, etc.

By Westernized story telling, I'm hoping they mean "the battle between good and evil, duty to mankind, being a 'real hero' and not some purple haired loser reluctantly helping people"

LOTF is a great game, I jumped in at v1.5 and it still had some serious balancing issues but v1.6 and now v1.7 seems to have addressed those issues, based on the patch notes at least.

The game was just cheap as F in a really bad way. Give me a proper challenge that is fair.

My favorite thing is how fast you are. It's like you have rocket boots on, it's pretty funny but also gives it such a different vibe from actual Souls games.

Now I'm imagining a soulslike where you move around using the rocket/jet boots from Ratchet & Clank, with you dodges being bursts and flips using the boots.
When you start running in the game, it's like watching a 50 meter dash on 1.5 speed. Lol.

The balancing was so bad in spots that all you could do was haul ass through massive sections of the game. Legit lol, like a chicken running around with its head cut off.

You know how prevalent DEI-nonsense is within the industry when companies use "Oh look, there's no DEI" as a marketing tool to sell their products now.

I liked the last game.. despite its flaws I still think it was better than lies of pi and would recommend to any Souls fan. So hope they do a even better job next one.

The first Lords of the Fallen was not a very good game, but I was starved for Souls action at the beginning of the ps4 era and I did finish it.
The reboot from last year was orders of magnitude better than the first title in every single way. The post launch support for it has been incredible as well.
If the third title improves on that even further, than they could have a genuine hit on their hands.

I know we use modern audiences to mock the woke Devs and publishers. But has a dev actually came out and said their woke game is made for modern audiences?
