No way for Bayonetta 2. It barely looks like they've even started development in the January Nintendo Direct. That's sometime next year, probably Q3-4.
3D Mario is a lock. We haven't had a game from Tokyo EAD Team 1 since Super Mario Galaxy!
I know that. What I'm trying to say is that both SMG 2 and SM3DL were made by relatively small teams. It is a given that the bulk of Tokyo EAD has been working on 3D Mario U for quite some time, perhaps for over 3 years by now.The people who made Galaxy and previous games switch from EAD 1 & 2 to work on games. EAD 2 made Galaxy 2, but it is the same people.

I'd be totally OK with a game starring an older Luke like portrayed in Unwound Future.Fuck Layton. Give us Professor Luke!

I think Mario Kart, Yoshi, WWHD, and MAYBE Bayonetta 2 are in the cards for this holiday.
I feel Nintendo has this new strategy of getting its big guns as early in platform's life as possible. They did it with 3DS.I'm on two minds on this one. On the one hand, you're quite right in that there should be more than enough people in EAD Tokyo to have been working on a 3D Mario for Wii U for two years or so by now. On the other hand, if that were true it would mean that, for most of 2011, Nintendo would have been dedicating no less than four full teams in EAD to work on Mario platformers (NSMB2, NSMBU, SM3DL & 3D Mario for Wii U). Even for Nintendo, that's a huge chunk of their main development studio to have working on a single series (even if it is Mario).

I think Smash Bros will be out this Christmas. It's the game that helps Nintendo the most with the demo they're currently targeting and I think they'll rush it if needed.

They could always be working on something brand new. Pretty sure Tokyo EAD is rumored to be the fastest growing team over the last few years.

Well, I can see your point, but EAD Tokyo is pretty much a Mario studio. What else should they've developed in the mean time? We know that Nintendo is going to announce a 3D Mario at E3, so it strikes me as very unlikely that they've done something else in between ... and I can't imagine that the Tokyo team put all of their resources into 3D Land, considering it was not only a pretty short game for Tokyo's standards but much of the programming was also outsourced to Brownie Brown.

It had to be done.
Tokyo should be big enough for three teams by this stage, actually, so I'd be very confident in saying they're working on a lot more than just Mario. And if full development on Mario Wii U started only after 3D Land shipped, there still would be enough time for a playable demo at E3 this year.
The main programmer on SMG hasn't been credited in a game since SMG (that was in 2007). I am fairly 3D Mario's engine has been up and running for quite some time. Plus Iwata said that the 2nd generation of U games in terms of graphics is on its way.you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. Nintendo seems to be struggling with HD, so I wouldn't say any game is a lock at this point, especially a large scale, flagship title such as this.
3D Land was developed by a small team of about 30 people (including Brownie Brown developers), so the vast majority of EAD Tokyo was working on something else, probably 2 projects. As they probably both aren't Mario titles, I am really interested in what the non-Mario title could be. Donkey Kong? New IP?

From what I remember of Nintendo Direct, Super Smash Bros. won't even be in playable form at E3. It won't release this year.More like how they rushed out a half-baked Mario Kart 7 because the 3DS needed it.
Smash Bros will have had almost two full years of dev time by the end of this year, plus whatever pre-production they worked on in the six months from its announcement to Kid Icarus going gold. And they have Namco's additional muscle.
SSB2013 won't be the game we deserve, it'll be the game Nintendo needs.

Sakurai said:According to a rough translation, Sakurai says "Wii U and 3DS versions -- I would like to show you both." He then explains that “Other games have had visuals shown, but you still have to wait for Smash Bros. But we'll be able to release something better.” Sakurai apologizes that the production of the game was announced so far in advance but says that there will be more things coming, so fans should be ready.
During Nintendo Direct, Iwata said that “screens” from Smash Bros. will be shown, but Sakurai makes it sound like we may indeed be seeing footage instead. We'll have to wait to find out for sure, but at least we know that more info will be coming soon.

One of the best game on 3ds.
At this rate, AC will win the race to 4m before MH4 and Pokemon XY even releases lol.
So I guess ~10K units/wk is the floor for WiiU. Could have been much worse.
Haven't read the whole thread, so it might've been answered. Was trying to figure out why the Nintendo games had a bump and hardware generally went up. There was not a public holiday. It was not the end of a school term (channeling doicare). The only thing I can figure is that people went into the store to buy a Vita, found it was sold out, so bought a 3DS or Wii U and a couple of games instead (channeling Monorojo).

As bad as EX Troopers sold on 3DS, it sold even worse on PS3 and would likely have done even worse still on Vita. I'm not sure what this has to do with God Eater 2 though? So what did EX Troopers do wrong that GE2 would do right on the 3DS? Isn't it just as much 4 player, anime-aesthetics, hunting action as God Eater?
I dunno, sounds like s lot of rationalization there, and most of it rather unsubstantiated on your part (higher maintenance expectation on consoles, less lifespan on consoles, slower uptake on consoles, more complex certification on consoles, etc).A full console port would be expected to be maintained to the same level as the main game, we should have all heard about the peculiarities of getting console patches through even though the patching seems to be handled differently for mmo type games.
Sega might have just thought it wasn't worth the trouble, especially with the gen ending soon supporting a second version that might run out of steam early or a 2nd/3rd version that might get slow uptake seems kind of iffy to me.
With the Vita version they can keep it as it's own separated thing more easily i would think and the series has been mostly portable recently as well so perhaps they thought thats were some of the fanbase was likely to join from.
Even without a vita version I would think the timing for a version for current consoles would be a bit off.
A 3DS + CPP costs less than a Vita. Besides, with the way MH3G sold there may even be a comparable userbase between the CCP and Vita overall.First up - I didn't say it can't be done. I said GE suits vita more because of its duel sticks. Do you really think having to buy a CCP to play it that way puts it on even ground?
Also if they feel it suits vita then its good they made it on that rather than alter there vision to work on a different system. Sadly they are kind of doing that anyway by releasing a PSP version aswell which I would rather they didn't do. PSP support is prob one of vitas biggest enemies right now.
As I said with PSO2 it works over 3g. Also handhelds went just for when not at home.

Barring Eguchi, I'm pretty sure producers in Nintendo just handle a single title at a time, and for all intents and purposes each of the "Groups" in EAD are just the people working under a particular producer, with staff flowing between each pretty freely.

The entire point of Nintendo re-attempting to establish R&D in Tokyo (they tried it in the 80s), is that Tokyo is the biggest city and quintessential hot bed of developer talent. Unfortunately, I can't say they has been this overwhealming evidence that Nintendo has doubled or tripled the size of EAD Tokyo from 5 years ago. But one huge advantage they still possess, is the ability to contract staff at the bat of an eye, to help finish games. They could always be working on something brand new. Pretty sure Tokyo EAD is rumored to be the fastest growing team over the last few years.
It might help if they could show gameplay without always needing to film it over some guys shoulder.
Seriously Sony. Seriously.
Holiday 2014 at the very earliest for Smash 4.
I say March 2015.

Damn, it was announced Summer of 2011! Never thought SSB U/3DS would have such a long development. Carpal Tunnel is a bitch
