Nintendo Has Good News for Fans of Classic Zelda Games

A veteran Nintendo official shares some good news for fans of classic The Legend of Zelda games while avoiding a question about the Switch 2.

So basically what the article is saying is expect more traditional top down Zelda games and that there will be a new game that should be announced in 2026.

So this is great news for all of us was Zelda fans.

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma wants to keep making classic Zelda games with a top-down perspective. The industry veteran shared this ambition as part of a recent interview, while reflecting on his overall vision for the future of The Legend of Zelda franchise.


Not accounting for spin-offs like Hyrule Warriors, the Switch has received five new Zelda games since its 2017 release. Two of those adopted the top-down perspective of the classic entries in the long-running series. The 2019 Link's Awakening embraced this style because it was a remake of the 1993 game of the same name, whereas the recently released Echoes of Wisdom did so simply because its developers chose to.

I would have to say Zelda is my favorite Nintendo IP. I guess most people feel that way considering how many Zelda games exist and come out.

What surprises me is the lack of Metroid.

Agreed the plastic toy look is just bad. But yes, I love the top down games, they just desperately need a new aesthetic

I'm in this boat too. Moved across to Steam Deck and handed my Switch to my daughter. Will grab a Switch 2 for her and use that as excuse to play any new games that interest me.

I am the type of Zelda fan who just wants a proper remaster or remake of Ocarina of Time, but without the weapon durability and other gimmicks of BotW and TotK. Just please remaster or remake the game with some basic QoL improvements.

When it comes to 3D Zelda, I don't want them to go back to BOTW/TOTK gameplay. I hated both of those games. I want celshaded graphics like Windwaker too
