Neve Campbell returning for Scream 7; also directed by Kevin Williamson (the writer of the original Scream movies)

When Melissa Barrera was fired and Jenna Ortega left, I commented that they may now have money in the budget to bring Neve back and sure enough, I was right!

Only thing missing from the classic Scream formula is Wes Craven (RIP). While Williamson is a fine writer, he's only got one directing credit to his name...

Not too long ago I watched Scream 6. I honestly have no idea how they're going to follow on from what was already a rather desperate motivation in order to drag Sidney from her new life away from all of this with her baby yet again. Especially after what happened in 6.

This will be more interesting than whatever they had planned for Ortega and the other chick. Scream 5 had ok kills and that was it. Scream 6…just ugh. No thanks.

Good for ol steady Neve-y.

A few scenes in 5 and 6 were exciting; overall I thought they were worth watching for free.

Hopefully Ortega and Barrera leaving frees up SC7EAM to try out ideas that wouldn't have worked otherwise. Ideas better than stylizing it as SC7EAM.

Bumping this thread because another returning character was confirmed today...

There was always a fan theory that Stu was still alive... guess it's confirmed now.

There was always some reasonable hints of it:

-the actor has an uncredited cameo in Scream 2, while as seemingly a different person from Stu….but:

-a lot was changed from the original script of Scream 2 (in fact, Cotton was going to be the main killer, Dewey and Gale would have been killed, and Sydney and Cotton would simultaneously kill each other in a final struggle. Would have ended the series or at least force 3 to adopt a whole new cast), one notable thing was one of the proposed endings would have an unidentified Ghostface looking down at the campus from the bell tower, while some speculate it could be Roman from 3, most agree they wouldn’t have had the idea for that character yet especially as 3 took longer to come out compared to 2 coming out only one year after 1. So many speculate it was Stu in the bell tower

-IIRC, one of the new main characters in 5 or 6 briefly mentions the possibility of Stu being alive

How much money does it really take. She hasn’t been relevant since scream 2.

The main Ghostfaces of 3 and 4 have their motivation heavily tied to Sidney, how was she irrelevant?

5 is sort of the exception, while they certainly know her and even show a villainous type of respect to her upon meeting her, their entire motivation is based on their hatred of the last Stab film (the in-universe movies based on each killing spree, though the later Stab films just make up entirely fictional stories rather than basing it on the events of the films) and hoping their killing spree will inspire a new Stab film that gets the film series back on track.

And then 6 doesn’t have Sidney in it, so the killers don’t really bring her up, but a cut line from the script indicated they would plan on going after her next if they had successfully killed the leads of 6, which makes sense given Sidney was involved in killing the person they are avenging.

Scream 5 was decent but Scream 6 was complete garbage. 3 fucking Ghostfaces and you barely killed anyone. The meta twist in the first 15 minutes was good but everything else was awful.

I wish they didn't announce that Stu was coming back unless he comes back as a force ghost like Billy Loomis. Maybe this one will be decent? Idk.

I was meaning relevance to the movie industry not scream. She is relevant to scream. But they made movies without her.

Great! Now let her die in the first minutes, like Drew did in the first movie. THAT would be a great way to start like the original!
"Uh, Kevin, hi, it's Neve. Yes, yes, it's been a while since we've hung out and it's great to be working with you again. Just a quick question though, I received my script and its only 2 pages long. Can you send me the rest?"

"Wait, that's IT?!?!? But I still get paid for the whole feature? Kill me off then!"

Eventually scream will go on hiatus we haven’t seen Freddy in years.
Fuuuuck, imagine THAT crossover!

Scream going hyper meta and just sucking in Freddy, Jason, a good Mike Myers, Pinhead, Jigsaw, hell, even that Art the Terrifier guy, why not? Really dig into why these weird homicidal male archtypes are so entrenched.

Then have all the long haired little girl japanese demon chicks kill them all 'cause equality :p

What's the story behind Barrera's firing and Ortega leaving?

Anti-semitic stuff (or pro-Palestine anti-Israel I guess, depending on your POV). She had to go to actor jail for a stretch, but her pretty girl privilege has her working again.
