"EVERY BLACK LEVEL ACCIDENTALLY ARTIFICIALLY RAISED IN THE TRAILER TO GIVE A LESS THAN STELLAR* FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE GAME... UH... PROCEDURAL"

Its funny because the last trailer they put out for the new DLC had crushed blacks 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, thats just pedantic nerd ranting, the main takeaway is:

Awesome effort by them to get it going on Switch.

Just started playing No Man's Sky for the first time yesterday.

Absolutely blown away how incredible this game feels and looks. Especially considering the cosmic scope. Like I can't even comprehend how this is possible. Just pulling up the galaxy map after leaving my first planet, and viewing the entire galaxy. Everything all has a name. Planets, galaxies, fauna, flora, minerals. And it all loads instantly, no skips or pauses for the names to populate, it just works instantly. And all at 60fps and something around 1440p in performance mode on XBOX. The only performance oddities are when you land on new planets, just 1 or 2 seconds of jitteriness for everything to populate and load on said planet. But hey... it's an entire freaking planet that loads in 1 or 2 seconds, so it's a non-issue really.

For those who haven't played, you need to play this just to experience the cosmic grandeur. Videos just do not do it justice. The feeling you get is inexplicable... like how immeasurable our own galaxy is. You feel so insignificant. Like a single grain of sand floating in the entire ocean.

Here's hoping the Switch version runs well!

Now this one has the opposite problem to the OP video and the blacks levels are wrong/crushed! Must be because the video was made for broadcast TV rather than online primarily or something like that, but DAMN what is going on with marketing stuff these days, just firing videos of 60 fps games out at 24 or 25fps or constant range mismatch, how do I get a job in this sector where I just go around their offices/homes and clip the people responsbile for this round the ear and say "FIX IT you spongo!".

Whats the bloody excuse for these bush league issues?!:

Oh right, its that most consumers don't see the problem, after they've bought 2 grand TVs to be able to take advantage of well made video content 🤷‍♂️ raised/crushed black levels completely removes a big reason for having a beautiful FALD LCD or OLED.

Still, who cares about taking pride in your job and delivering a quality product, eh? Every day I work I give customers my (very basically accurate) personal picture settings for TVs to avoid stupid issues like this so they don't just go with Vivid/Dynamic picture mode defaults, they would probably love the defaults just as much and never notice of course, but it means a lot to me that people get a good experience, wish the people that make these videos cared:

Switch gets its Starfield then.

Haven't actually played this since the PS4 launch, is it actually fun to play now.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
I dont think the game will run well on Switch.

It runs like ass on my PS4 after several hours when I built a certain amount of objects in one planet. Stuttering and very low FPS.

Seems like memory issue.

Seems to run fine, although the popups when you land on a planet for the first time are pretty funny.

*Impossible Port
It's really "impossible". In the sense that it was impossibile to anyone to port, and here the results.

It's not that bad. It's just it's really impossibile to fit this game on Switch, it's too heavy. For example, Starlink is not much better than this, and it's not at the same level of complexity.

I think there are worse ports of poorer games than this.

this game is so much fun
You’re probably going to get roasted for the necropost, but you’re quite right. I got into NMS last fall after bouncing off of Starfield, and absolutely love it. The Switch version is particularly good.

Switch version is missing a bunch of things though as far as I remember. What makes it particularly good?

I'm joining the bandwagon: the Switch version looks amazingly good. I'm playing on nomad, and I haven't encountered any significant slowdowns. It's smooth as hell, whether you're coming out of hyperdrive or landing on a planet, it's incredible.

There are some pop-ups, the textures aren't as good and it takes longer to load the game, but the atmosphere remains intact and the addition of the graphics enhancement helps, especially compared to the first version.
I'm still annoyed by things like the infamous menu, the sickening star map, the inconsistency of the creatures running around in circles, etc., but there's so much to do now, it's easy to forget these problems.

In fact, I haven't enjoyed a space opera this much since Colony Wars (the excellent trilogy that unfortunately never got a remaster).

For me, the game lent itself to chill play sessions before going to sleep and got me through an illness where I was stuck in bed away from the TV. NMS is a game I can get quite lost in for hours, in the good way, and being able to play in handheld made up for whatever was missing. Totally subjective experience on my part, but I felt like mentioning it.

Only the multiplayer got axed and obviously the vr mode the switch would blow up trying to run that LOL. you can still do the onlinr community nexus stuff though. Playing in handheld on an oled it looks and runs amazing easily matching my ps4 copy in fact with the newer updates they even got texture pop in to be way quicker too. It's not the optimal way to experience the game but having literally an unlimited galaxy to explore in the palm of your hand makes these sacrifices not seem so bad.

In handheld it looks pretty sharp and the colours really shine, only recently started to replay it i kind of stopped around the time the mech updates came i'm starting to find all the new updates stuff but i am super pissed the reshuffled the galaxy and my home base world is now ruined it used to be a paradise planet with bubbles and glowing grass that rippled and shone in the dark now it looks like shit booooo hello games you robbed me.

2 year old thread bump had me thinking I'm going senile and wondering if it hadn't released already.
It recently got a huge 5.0 update if not mistaken played this game on psvr2 for a couple of hours today. They figured out this game was also on sale on the eshop and bought it again. So i could play it on the switch lite.. the formfactor is really perfect

I've only ever played it on the Switch.

It was fun, but ultimately it just felt like I was stuck in a loop. No worlds ever felt new and exciting after about a month. It became a chore to play.

I never cared for the story. It was far too artsy farty, vague, and esoteric.

The pop in was pretty bad and my home base ended up being tens of second chugs each time. That was to be expected though and acceptable.

It really needs more species. And most of all, some good looking ships. 90% of the ships and ship options look like utter shit, leaving little incentive to get different ones.

They have improved upon or upgraded nearly every complaint you just listed.

There are plenty of varied worlds within the game but you will definitely need to visit multiple different star systems to see them all.

They've added new story/narrative based missions (it's still not Mass Effect keep in mind). These include bounty hunting, smuggling missions, exploring random derelict ships (horror), and all out Space Battles to partake in to name a few. I ended up helping a losing side and was awarded one of their Space frieghters for assisting.

They've implemented FRS software to enhance the visuals, along with the new 5.0 update which adds significant new graphical details and visuals features (wind, weather, cloud and water effects)

They've added new species of flora and fauna in the new 5.0 update. There's also underwater bases building, multiple land based vehicles, including Mechs to craft and new Ship designs including a solar sail based ship.

So yeah, They've added a ton of new graphical updates, content and features since the initial Switch launch.
