Overall:
Overall retail sales down less than 1% year over year.
Software down 28% year over year.
Hardware up 59% year over year
Notes:
--"The NPD Group also confirmed that the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U hardware made up 80 percent of the money spent on game-related products in October."
Software:
-The Evil Within: "The Evil Within was the highest-selling first month of sales for new survival horror IP"
-Sunset Overdrive: "Microsoft, meanwhile, probably isn’t sure what to think of Sunset Overdrive yet. The Xbox One exclusive open-world action game was on sale for four days in October, but it didn’t crack the top 10. It did come in at No. 9 if you count games by SKU (meaning only the PS4 version of NBA 2K15 and the Xbox One version of The Evil Within). And of course, none of these sales include the bundled version of Sunset Overdrive that comes with the white Xbox One."
-Smash did around 495K this month, as it is now over 1.2 million between digital and physical in the US

"Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has sold 1.2M copies in the U.S. and is the 10th Nintendo 3DS game to sell at least 1M units in the U.S. Also, through the first 10 months of 2014, total sales of Wii U hardware and software have increased by 47 percent and 84 percent, respectively, over the same period in 2013."
Nintendo via vinnygambini said:SUPER SMASH BROS. FOR NINTENDO 3DS IS 10TH NINTENDO 3DS GAME TO SELL 1 MILLION UNITS
Nov. 13, 2014
It’s official: Smash is a smash. Despite only being on the market for a little more than a month, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has already sold 1.2 million combined physical and digital units in the U.S alone. The game sold more than 485,000 total units in October to become the 10th Nintendo 3DS title to sell at least 1 million units in the U.S. The Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS game is the best-selling hand-held title so far in 2014, but will face a stiff challenge to hold onto that title when the next great Pokémon adventures – Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire – arrive on Nov. 21.
Wii U continues to have a very strong year. Through the first 10 months of 2014, total sales of Wii U hardware and software have increased by 47 percent and 84 percent, respectively, over the same period in 2013. Those numbers are both poised to grow with the one-two punch of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and amiibo on Nov. 21, which are then quickly joined by Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on Dec. 5.
