Obsidian nuked the Community section for Avowed on Steam

Steam*

It’s gone. All of it. Clicking on Discussion takes you back to the store page. No clue what happened but after the KCD2 drama on the Steam forums, it seems discussion worthy.

Preemptive so that people don't discuss the woke shitstorm for Avowed. Or maybe it had already happened but nobody cares about the game that much to have noticed.

What time is it?
And they nuked the Thread Title of this very thread!

The tags on the game in the linked article were DEI and non-BUY-nary.
It seems the antiwoke have already had the power go to their head and are acting even worse than the woke brigade.
Sad times ahead.
Also: it's possible that this is due to an incoming delay.

Kingdom Come then Avowed...Seems Febuary will be will be the month of the bankruptcy of two RPG studios
Avowed, who knows, really. That game was a shot in the dark in the best of scenarios - they'd have been much safer just making Pillars Of Eternity 3...
And very clearly, thanks to "clever" communication by Obsidian devs, we are pretty far away from the best of scenarios by now.
Still not seen anything actually preachy from the game, but release will tell.

But KCD?
You have to be nuts if you believe anyone outside of that spectrum of terminally online end-of-the-horseshoe fools is in any way not buying due to a historically believable depiction of someone gay (In case you didn't know, homosexuality is not an invention of the 80s).

Wait what, I thought the game specific forums were a Steam feature, how can a developer remove a Steam platform feature, why is this even possible?
You don't have to use Steam forums as a dev. It's simply not a requirement.
Some devs are active there, others are not, yet others close it all, and some just leave a note up more or less saying "go to place X if you wanna discuss, we are there".

That's terrible, fuck Steam and Gaben. I of course knew developers didn't have to post or participate, and could moderate based on a presumed global Steam TOS/guideline, but have never come across a game without a forum. I thought it was baked into Steam whereby you published a game, the forum was autocreated with the store page. Again, fuck Steam and Gaben.

Why?
It's a service that Valve offers devs to use as they see fit. Valve isn't some charity company providing a discussion platform for the masses :messenger_winking:
Considering how behavior on those forums has increasingly become more and more braindead and less civil, I can't fault any developer for not wanting to spend any resources on it.
Nobody wants to spend their precious time playing kindergardner for a bunch of adults.

Personally, I'd still leave it open and just put a sign up "we have no intention of stepping into the pit, we'll be over at X, but you do you, have fun" - but again, can't fault anyone for just closing it entirely.

In a post-BG3 world where people are now willing to look at an Isometric CRPG.
Deadfire is bloody brilliant (albeit without the varied-scope of modern BG3)
Well. Deadfire didn't quite gel with me because I just don't like pirate stuff. But I still think the PoE games (both 1 and 2) are a better execution on "Infinity Engine"-likes than the Pathfinder games by Owlcat. But that has more to do with the shitty Pathfinder ruleset and how Owlcat have decided to adopt it for their games. There's just too much fucking buffing going on that you need to do before every encounter. And there are a lot of them. Sawyer had the right idea of making a rule system from scratch that fits a video game. Altough one could criticize that he went overboard with trying to balance everything out; you can't really make a bad build. And you can't really make an OP build. Which is kinda where a lot of fun can come from, imho.

with what? Both sides of the woke and non woke coin are fucking idiots i swear. Gimme back my old gaming where games were all about having fun and not political talk. Even this forum turned into a shitshow just the opposite spectrum of the retardera side
there wouldnt be "non woke' if woke wasnt a thing in the first place. the "non woke" want the same thing you want.

Cause it's a half step removed from allowing publishers to remove their reviews section. The forums are incredibly useful for obscure troubleshooting, mods, long form discussions, and criticism. Publishers shouldn't have control over that, full stop. Beyond adhering to common sense global Steam conduct policy,. Valve's entire brand and success is owed to being "the good guy", with Steam as their charity.

No, it's not.
Again, the forums are a service Valve offers to devs. If they use it, it belongs to the dev (Valve just hosts it). Which means they are free to close it - this has never been any different.
Reviews are an integral part of Steam itself, fully independent of the dev.

You can bet your ass publishers would love to remove reviews. But they can't, because those two things are not related.
The forums are closer to the workshop than they are to the reviews.

What did they do ? I haven't kept up with the news in a while.
Apparently, a guy is shown having some quality time with another guy - my guess is that it's going to be the bad guy being shown in full-on-Caligula-style debauchery.
That's it. That's enough to wind up the terminally online these days :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Nobody gave a damn in GoT just a few years ago about much wilder stuff, but people are quickly losing their last brain cells, it seems.

Vavra isn't doing himself any favors being all vague about it to not spoil the story.
Which of course triggers the usual suspects even more.

There are some wild rumors about an "immoral" sex scene (some say gay sex....but this was stealth removed already from the original twitter post) in the game. Also there is a rumor about a black guy appearing in the game where people also arent happy with.

Its basically what happened before the first game as well. Game is getting "attacked"....and its sad to see it works (team woke must be laughing their asses off right now). If you would just watch a few snippets from the previewers even a blind guy could tell you that this game is the opposite of woke. ;)
