PC Gamepass update

Looks like MS are slowly making some changes. Biggest one is that you can specify one PC to have offline mode, so you no longer have to always have an internet connection. They do have stupid restrictions only allowing you to change which PC this is 3 times per year. They also added a compact mode which is supposed to be better for portables.
Edit: Was the offline mode announced - it just popped up after I updated the app and I was kinda surprised, hadn't heard any mention of it.

The xbox app has supported offline play for years, regardless if you're subscribed to game pass or not.

Yep, just have to make sure you launch the game before any offline happens.
My settings currently say my PC can go offline, and a little message saying I can switch it to a different computer 2 more times.

I don't think the offline mode is new... the PC Xbox app pretty much works like the consoles and has done that for a long time.

Not sure why Xbox can’t provide a big picture mode. Or achievements that don’t look like email prompts.

I think Microsoft just needs more time to learn the ropes with Windows. It's a whole new environment for them.

Exactly. It’s mind boggling how shitty the Xbox app is and the whole process of getting patches for games and updating the app itself. I would unironically rather use UPlay or EGS.

MS should just scrap the whole thing and use Battlenet for everything. It’s barebones but at least it’s completely functional and sound.

Compact mode feels pretty good. But I don't have much to reference it with. Overall the app is not that bad, but it's nowhere near where it should be considering the resources MS have.

I mean it's worse than things like heroic launcher.

Compact mode has been there for a while but i just noticed i have the offline option in the xbox app too. My guess it was meant for the windows handhelds when you're not near wifi. Pretty cool, wish the Xbox console had this option because my internet likes to go out. I mean honestly Microsoft, you know when my gamepass sub expires, just set a token or something on the device to expire when our sub ends.

Imagine if MS was really tuned in to what power users want. A PC game client.. wait for it.... built into File Explorer 0_0. Like the old OneDrive, but for games, and without the bugs.

They do?
That toggle you see in the xbox app is no different from designating one of your consoles as the "home" console, it gives it offline permissions with digitally downloaded games.

My Series X is set to home. But when i try to play a gamepass game when i'm offline it needs the internet to authenticate. I might recheck, maybe it turned itself off, but when i was in an internet outage i couldnt play Indiana Jones.

I just physically unplugged my console and booted up nine sols from game pass, works fine.

Celebrating an option we had as a 'given' 20+ years ago. God, gaming is a joke sometimes.

At least you can add your PC GP games as non-steam games so you can run them from Big Picture mode, it’s what I use since my PC is set to boot in big picture mode.

Meh. I’ll just buy on Steam. I’m not gonna buy from a store and provide money to a sub par service experience.

Up to you obviously - just saying it’s an option if you want to run GP games from Big Picture.

To be honest I don’t understand how people get all those issues using PC GP - the only problem I’ve ever had when using it was a conflict… with Steam where it was overriding some of my button presses.

And didn't he say (in the post you are responding to) he wasn't able to play after an outage? Unplugging and testing immediately after vs the system being kicked offline at random, would have different variables in play due to which one might not be able to play, vs you, who was able to, since you "authenticated" just before disconnecting and he didn't have the chance to, nor was given the option to.

Eh no, my console was off, unplugged before turning it on.
How long had it been since you played the game in question (prior to turning off and unplugging)?

Or maybe the guy didn't have the console in question as his home console.

EDIT
Well, nvm, he said it is set to his home console. So despite that, as he shared, he wasn't able to play and then we have you, who is stating otherwise, lol.

I am just trying to make sense of why his didn't let him play and yours did. So, perhaps a week is not long enough before a game pass game requires authentication, but depending on how long he went, it might have triggered it. Or someone is lying lol.

It's 30 days, always has been.
Ok, then you know why his likely wasn't working after the outage. He wasn't able to play the game after an outage most likely due to being over the 30-day limit. Your response to him suggested otherwise (implying that since you had no issues, he shouldn't have had issues either, which also is a bit dismissive of what he said). And, just to get a clarification on this since we are discussing it, I am going to assume the 30-day auth requirement is game pass only and it should not affect games that we have otherwise purchased?

Bruv what are you doing, I already mentioned the 30 day limit earlier, if he (and you) posted without reading, that's not my problem.

I found the exchange between you and him a little strange given the existence of the 30-day limit, which you are not only acknowledging but are saying you were mentioning it.

Anyhow... here is what he said and what you responded with:
My Series X is set to home. But when i try to play a gamepass game when i'm offline it needs the internet to authenticate. I might recheck, maybe it turned itself off, but when i was in an internet outage i couldnt play Indiana Jones.

He explained that 1.) his console is set to home and 2.) he said when he tries to play game pass offline he needs to authenticate. He did say he'll double-check to confirm, which you ignore or don't acknowledge, and respond with "I unplugged my console and booted up a game, works fine" implying that it works fine for you so it must work fine for him too... or that is how it looks. Someone aware of the 30-day policy would simply check to see how long it has been since he last played the game pass title in question.

Anyway, I've already invested more time than I planned on in this conversation lol and I don't really care that much. I am willing to just move on. :D

Yes I did, read post nr 5; again it's not my problem if anyone didn't bother reading it.
But in the end this is my fault, I should've known better than to even bother responding to you, since you always pull this bs of trying to rope ppl in with insane arguments.
So yes, lol, move on please.

Awesome stuff Microsoft. I just got a desktop notification with audio that there is a new Forza Motorsport patch. This is going to attract a lot of power user gamers.

I can say the same about you lol but anyhow, I have already explained my point of view on the odd exchange between you and him (based on info you already understand) and why your response wasn't helping your case. Ah well.
