Sega Sammy has released the company’s Fiscal Year Ending March 2025 third quarter (consisting of October, November, December 2024) financial results. As with previous earnings reports, Sega has outlined the company’s tentpole game series sales, including Persona.

According to the financial results, the Persona series sold approximately 940,000 units worldwide (including digital and physical sales) through October, November, and December 2024. This mainly comes from repeat sales of Persona 5 Royal (Remaster) released in October 2022, and the newly released Persona 3 Reload on February 2, 2024.

The Persona series sold 1.81 million copies from April to September 2024 as confirmed in a previous financial report. As a result, the franchise has sold a total of 2.75 million copies this fiscal year, from April to the end of December 2024.

As reported in May 2024, the Persona series had sold 5.06 million copies in the previous fiscal year, from the beginning of April 2023 to the end of March 2024.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Wonder how the numbers compare to the whole SMT series. Bet the majority of sales come from Persona nowadays.

Good to see! Had never heard of it until 5 came out but it quickly became one of my favourite games of all time.

3 and 4 are great and even the spin off titles like Tactica/Strikers.

I’ve only played SMT 5 but I wouldn’t have if not for Persona. I love SMT 5.

When will we get Persona 6???

Yeah, I'm sure V/Vengeance sold well but especially after the success of Persona 5 I'm sure it's mostly Persona.

I've always loved both series but over time Persona has easily become the clear winner for me. Persona 4/Golden is my favorite game of all time and Persona 3 is in my top 10 easily.

Can't agree on them being my favorite but they sure are good! Hope we get to see something new soon, like P6, SMT VI or maybe a new spin-off.

... It needs to drop the turn base combat to become more popular and you know im right 😎
Nah they are not Square, they wouldn't piss on their fans like that.

Taking FF’s lunch money as the premier JRPG in the west.

I purchased two persona games in this period (P3R and p5 royal) after enjoying metaphor

P3R has been a really big slog though, still enjoying it

Don’t think it’s taking FF’s lunch money though, rebirth has definitely outsold the latest persona

Persona 3 is from the PSP era where they didn’t even have enough budget to design proper dungeons, so it was all procedurally generated garbage. The game IS a slog.

Persona 6 will do huge numbers. It will be the Elden Ring of the Persona series. 5 was the Dark Souls moment. I bet it outsells every FF except for maybe VII.

The good news is, the series is getting increasingly popular whereas FF has been stuck in no man’s land for over 15 years and the top-selling title is still VII on PS1.

Yea I was disappointed by P3R even though I did get the plat since it's not to hard. The ending was good though and I was surprised by how emotional I was about it. Guess I did get connected to the characters throughout the whole thing. It does have an interesting story overall just the dungeons are what really hurts it.

I don't think Persona as a series has the ability to do Elden Ring numbers. I think Persona 5 is roughly what you can expect, that released on every single platform and it's still more niche than what a mainline FF of good quality could do on a similar userbase.

All of our comparisons are with FF as a series releasing on PS5 only first, with only a 50M userbase at the time or less. Good numbers, but can't really be expected to sell as much as one that's on multiple platforms with hundreds of millions of users. Quality of FF has gone up considerably since FF15, so I expect sales for their multiplatform strategy will go up a lot as well with their next entries later in the gen.

My main issue is how repetitive it all is, moreso than Metaphor. I actually don't mind the Tartarus grind, it's kind of a good way to grind and listen to a podcast or something. The text dialogue drones on and on and on....the activities are all the same, and most of the banter is just filler.

Maybe I'll like Persona 5 more...P3 ain't bad, but man, Metaphor is a lot better.

Counterpoint: Turn based games like Persona could make more money on mobile platforms like Netflix Games or Apple Arcade, where you could fight a few turn based battles on the go. There's no dexterity needed for these games to require them to only be only on PC and Console.

Other counterpoint: If they could somehow make cutscenes more animated instead of using an overload of text boxes and animated jpeg images, that would help garner more attention.

Imagine if most or all of the cutscenes were animated like episodes of anime:

There's actually a Persona gacha game for mobile, P5X, which should launch globally later this year (it's already released in CN, JP and KR markets). The production values are pretty high, and it uses the same turn based combat as in P5.

While gacha is nice and will do well in funding future entries, I think the actual mainline entries could also be ported to either Apple Arcade, Google Play Plus, and/or Netflix Games. All 3 are essentially mobile game curation services, and that's where the higher end games end up on mobile.

Netflix and Apple Arcade have actually gotten a few games first on their end, which are then later ported to steam/consoles a year later or so. I'm not saying it should be exclusive to them for a year, but instead I think they could benefit from porting the mainline games to mobile. There's nothing to really lose with the latter.

I'm not saying it'll reach Elden Ring numbers. I'm saying it's their Elden Ring moment. Elden Ring took From from a name only known among gamers to a cultural phenomenon. Even people who have never touched games know about it. It catapulted From to a new level. I think the same thing will happen with Atlus and Persona 6. It will reach a new level of popularity and stand alongside the most popular JRPGs. It's still a B tier franchise as we speak. That's why I said I can see it outselling every FF except VII. If I thought it had the potential to reach Elden Ring's sales figures, I would have said it would easily surpass any FF. I can see Persona 6 selling 12-15M copies. For a JRPG, that's almost as good as it gets.

Hmm. Without major changes to production values or formula, I don’t think so

If it keeps the same basic format, persona 5 was already their Elden Ring moment for the franchise

I think the production values will be significantly higher. Probably won’t be on the level of FF XVI, but a lot better than Persona 5 or Metaphor.
