Sport ended up at 12.7M as of March 2019, second best of all time(but with 2020/21/22 it may have surpassed GT3). I bet GT7 is already around 10 million, it will definitely pass GT3 as well.

I don't know if it was the same for PlayStation since I don't have access to EA Play there, but if you had EA Play on Xbox then Jedi Survivor deluxe edition was only $9 in the holiday sale. That could explain it charting.

Polys will not want to reveal the GT7 sales numbers until it beats GT3.
I can't wait for it to join the 'SIE games that beat GT3 sales' club, hopefully it gets into the 20M seller club after that. Crazy that GTS got REALLY close to the former.
GT3 was the best selling SIE game for over a decade, so yeah, it's kind of a milestone.

And a list that's primarily made up of the same microtransaction infested Sports games that do well every year, the same multiplayer FPS franchise that does well every year, an open world game from 12 years ago and a bunch of licensed games based on non gaming IP is somehow proof of how amazing the western industry is?

I don't think the people you are talking about have ever denied that Madden, Fifa and COD make money.

In all likely hood, it probably did beat it or is very close. Those numbers were early 2019 and didn't include all of the covid years before GT7. It was only 2.2m off of GT3 at that time.

On the US Ps5 list there are 20 games on the list
6 are yearly sports games (I'm not sure if UFC is yearly though)
3 are mega franchises that are basically always on the list, with 2 of them having released over a decade ago (GTAV, Minecraft and COD)
3 are based on massively popular non gaming media franchises (Star Wars, Harry Potter and Spider Man)

Out of the 8 remaining games you super popular Mortal Kombat 1 (which was on a steep discount), 2 racing games (one of them actually made in japan), Astrobot (made in Japan), 4+ years old Cyberpunk, Helldivers 2, the newly released Arma Ps5 port and a hit indie game.

Again, this is the list showing how amazing the western gaming industry is?

I don't remember anything from that mentioning 2019.
The GTS part only included select games that were released up to FY 2020 (which ended on March 31, 2020, btw).
My understanding was that every single game on that list had its sales numbers updated up to February 2022 (date of the document), because otherwise something like Miles Morales would have sold 10M units in less than 5 months, and we know that was not the case.

Oh hey, that was surprising. But did it just stop selling after less than 1.5 years, then? Going by that data, the GT series would be at 89M unit sales by March 31, 2019, a number which would be later updated to over 90M in November 2022, close to a year after GT7 launched, a game that no doubt made up the majority of those (assuming at most of 99M) 10M sales from then.
Did Kaz just mention old data or something?
