Mobile gaming firm Scopely is paying $3.5 billion to acquire the video game business of Niantic, including marquee asset Pokémon GO.

The deal also brings titles like Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now into Scopely’s portfolio, along with other apps and live experiences

One of the biggest mobile game makers in the world.
It's the first time I've heard of them but looking at their acquired portfolio I can see why. Strange that they came out of nowhere. I would have thought the likes of Supercell, ABK and T2 would be on top of getting these game IPs too.

In a blog post announcing the deal, Scopely said more people attended Pokémon GO Fest last year than Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Tomorrowland combined. Damn. Also, As of 2024, Scopely was the second-biggest mobile game developer in the world in terms of revenue.

One US company being acquired by another US company. Nintendo will keep working as usual I guess.

Isn't pokemon go essentially dead now? It was huge when it first came out years ago but now no one seems to give a crap about it.
It's still big. They have a huge number of MAUs and brings in a lot of revenue yearly. It's just that people don't talk about it like they did at launch when it went viral and everyone and their mother played it.
