PS6 and cross-gen compatibility - Digital Foundry weighs in

Do you think the heavy reliance on RT and AI next gen may leave the previous generation behind, even if UDNA doesn't break compatibility? I don't see PS5 Pro alone being supported, but could the cut off for cross-gen come sooner the next time? If there is no fallback for lighting outside of RT and AI ray reconstruction, and the game is heavily AI upscaled, pushing for cross gen may result in unplayable-y poor performance on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. The Pro may fare better, but may still not be enough. Share your thoughts!

Oh Jesus, just flip a coin will give you just as good predictions. 5 years ago, they were like we don't need a Pro. Pro shows up and they are like wow this is pretty nice upgrade.

I don't think so. PS5 and Xbox series are able to run FSR and next-gen games will surely support the upscaler.

Digital foundry is always great at predicting these things. Reminds of the people asking Pachter back in the gametrailers days. Just why?

Next gen is likely late 2027 or 2028. It already seems like FSR4 may not work on RDNA2. Still speculation, but here is an article on it:

So what would FSR 5 dependencies be? Given what we are already seeing now, the input resolution may be dipping to 480p at that point for PS5/XSX. Imagine XSS then. Lol
