Higher beings, these words are for you alone. Beyond this point you enter the land of King and Creator. Step across this threshold and obey our laws.
Bear witness to the last and only civilization, the eternal Kingdom :
Hallownest
Hollow Knight is the game that gave me the closest experience I had when I experienced Dark Souls for the first time. It captures all the elements that define the Soulsborne genre for me.
Cryptic and vague storytelling, charming NPCs, melancholic world and atmosphere...
Then add to that a flawless soundtrack which works so well with the environment or boss it highlights. Mainly melancholic and sad, often charming and definitely bombastic during boss fight. Featuring mainly bowed strings instruments as well as piano and harp, it always delivers. A personal favorite : Greenpath
In a typical Metroidvania fashion you explore the Kingdom of Hallownest, a world filled with insect-like creatures, find blocked paths and unlock new abilities to navigate this world. Small at first, the map is slowly but steadily expanding into a massive world. And into a very "Dark Souls like" way, you'll find NPCs or text scattered into this world, giving you vague lines of dialog to help you figuring out where you should go or what's the story of this world.

Combat is not in rest of course. You start with very little abilities but you will find new powers to use and most importantly : charms.
You'll have to find them or buy them. Each charm gives you a new active or passive skill. With them you can make your "build". You have to equip them but of course the space is limited so you have to make some decision. The game encourages to test them all and especially different combination since some of them trigger special synergy.
It's a very clever system that is really addicting.
I should probably stop being a fanboy and stop my description here. Don't let me start on Bosses which for most are awesome. Mantis Lord probably being, for me, the "perfect boss fight" with a flawless mix of tense and fast paced battle but with clear patterns to identify, a perfect fitting music and such great "cinematography" before and after the fight.
And you ? Did you play Hollow Knight ? (if not what are you doing still there ? Go play it NOW !) Did you like it ? Are you waiting for Silksong ?
Feel free to share you thoughts and love about Hollow Knight here.
