The Last of Us Season II - New Trailer

Personal.opinion :
I like the games but I found the show to be mediocre.
EVERYONE is miscast, many characters were race swapped for the obvious reasons (If it was the opposite there would have been the usual furore) and always IMO, it just lacks "that special something" that the games had, don't know how to put it exactly but the show feels more "sterilized/sanitized" for a lack of a better word compared to the games.

Also, did I mention that everyone is miscast ? Watching the girl playing Abby in the new trailer and...yeah, she looks like a baby.

Watched the 1st season, didn't make an impression whatsoever, it felt like going through the motions and that's pretty much it.

Out of all the HBO shows out there this isn't one of their best ones.

Really looking forward to all the same discourse over this.

That is a strong teaser-type trailer.

Looks like they are delving hard, some of that iconography and those visuals fairly deep into Ellie's quest, so I'm still really interested to see where the story split happens? How long will we be in Jackson, specifically? How long until Joel & Ellie's rift? And how far into the 2nd half of part II will we see in this upcoming season 2?

Looks very good so far. 1st season was quite good so I expect the same here.

Horrible casting. Bella’s acting range consists of the different ways she says or yells “fuck” to express her emotions. Her face looks exactly the same at all times. Pedro is a fine actor but he is not Joel. And yea the race swaps. It’s too bad the casting was so awful because the sets look straight from the game.

I can't wait to see how many characters have been race swapped this time!

Here's hoping they also expand on Joel's side of story and not kill him before the first ad break. Bonus points if they turn any of the male casts into transwoman. Just like Neil Druckmann once said, if there is a will there is a way.

Watch Joel get killed in the first episode and then show up for , at least, 10 minutes in every episode in flashbacks because they need to show Pascal face in fear of people losing interest...

I'm so tired of him being in everything now, he's the new Dwayne Johnson.

This looks really good so far!

I particularly loved the title card and how it was lit. Reminded me of that underground subway section in TLOU 2 where Ellie and Dina first encounter the Shambler.

Didn’t really like the first season. Come to think of it I haven’t even watched the final episode..

Not for me I guess. I’ll stick to the games.

Obviously it was due to budgeting but what I disliked in the first season was that they concentrated so much on people and there was a miniscule number of infected in the show. They kept showing these people camps as if theres millions out there when in fact, in the game theres so little humans left and the rest is run over by the infected. You aint going to look for a cure to fix 200 infected, you are searching for a cure because 85% of the population is infected.

Also considering there isnt going to be that many episodes I hope that they dont spend again one whole episode on 2 side characters and their boring lives before the world got infected. They could incorporate it as a flashback in a main episode but wasting a whole episode on how Bill fell in love, while there was so much more to tell was a waste. I wont be surprised we spend one episode in S2 of Abby and Owen :messenger_sleeping:

Pedro carried that entire show. He is a phenomenal actor. Funny becuase isn't this supposed to be Ellie story?

I'd argue the first game/season is Joel's story, or "redemption arc", such as it were. But after that, he's kinda done as a character. Where do you go from there? He'd do it all over again (he says as much in Part 2). So then the focus shifts (even more) to Ellie.

The set up for this has been fascinating to think about. Pascal carries the show, so either Druckmann kills him off and most viewers switch off like when Glenn was killed in TWD in a similar fashion, or he admits he was wrong and keeps him alive.

Totally agree with you here.

Apart from the miscasting, what's totally off here is the tone of the series.

The show looks way too colorful and tone wise it's not capturing at all the grim vibe of the first game.
The acting was better in the game. Let me say that again, the acting was better in the game.

The series also looks flat in many scenes. Sometimes it looks fine, other times it looks real ugly.

The issue is Bella Ramsey doesn't look like Ellie in terms of facial features, physical appearance, posture, mannerisms, or overall resemblance. She just doesn't match the character's look or feel from the games. It's a bizarre casting choice. I mean, Kaitlyn Dever would have been perfect to play Ellie, and they cast her as Abby...

I think Ramsey does resemble Ellie a lot. When we first saw her with the red shirt from the game in episode 3 I just said that's Ellie.

Its always funny seeing people bashing Bella Ramsey. She received a lot of praise from her performance and I would suspect that most viewers aren't even gamers. The Last of Us got whole brand new audience with the show.

Dina is not ugly anymore, how is this allowed.
I haven't seen many call Cascina Caradonna ugly.

My teenage daughters that aren’t familiar with the games at all loved the first season. They cried A LOT during Bill’s episode. I watched a few episodes with them and found it to be pretty decent, I thought Pedro was a great Joel.

I hope they dare to use the same non-linear story as they did in the game. Oh, that would be a joy.

I hated the story.

Really looking forward to enjoying this and block every thread with The Last of Us in the title for at least two years in here! It's gonna be awesome.

Can't wait for all the outrage and everyone who hasn't played the games but likes the show to turn against it once that moment happens.

I think tv show fans are more likely to accept it because they know the show is an adaptation of existing material. Story was already there. Also
they might not have as strong connection to Joel and Ellie as the people who played the game. They didn't spend as much time with them. I think Part 2 is better than the first game.

I wonder how much they'll try to delay the "event" that starts the Part II. After that episode, the show will start to downfall (I already don't like it, but I'm curious about the people reactions, especially considering how uncharismatic is Ellie in the show compared to the game).

It will probably happen in the first episode. Pedro Pascal wasn't on the set long.

It would be similar to how fans reacted to certain characters in TWD or LOST. That is if they don't come out swinging, pun intended, with Joel right off the bat, but save it for the second half or season ending cliffhanger.

I wonder how long they'll wait to unveil the twist that Abby 's dad is the doctor from the season 1 finale. I'm curious if they'll show you Abby for a bit before they reveal it or if they start season 1 with it so you know right away.
