Enjoy this 11-minute extended gameplay walkthrough of Tides of Annihilation, the fantasy-action game just announced at the Sony State of Play that's inspired by the legend of King Arthur and set in London following an Outworld invasion. This gameplay video showcases our heroine Gwendolyn and her companion Ninian as they search for fragments of the Holy Grail. They'll eventually face off against a boss named Mordred. Tides of Annihilation is in development for PC and consoles.

Looks cool, but that voice acting....

Is it AI or something. Some of the least natural VO I've ever heard.

Edit: apparently the MC is a well known actress, but idk about the companion girl.
It's Shadowheart's VA from Baldur's Gate, and that monotone voice acting is her thing, apparently.

Sometimes your ears just disapprove a VA. Everyone calls ME's Sheppard an amazing and iconic VA, but I think that he is one of the most soulless and plank-of-wood VAs on the planet. If you had told me he was played by an A.I. all along, I would've believed you.

Final Fantasy Devil May Cry mashup. Looks cool. IDK how serious I can take it but it looks like a banger for people who like this style.

She was fine, in the little she did speak. But blondie had very odd pauses and cadence and the girl/bird/...sword? who talks constantly was just bizarre (maybe intentionally since she seems to be from another dimension or something)

Probably the script is bad, the developers are from china, making a game about uk looking uk sounding characters, chynajank > eurojank

Funny you mention that because I'm getting FF16 vibes. Like a diluted DMC with elemental attacks. Some of those attacks felt like Shiva, Titan, Ifrit, and Garuda.

For sure. The knights of the round seem to work very much like eikons from what we've seen.

Chinese devs are so good at animations, effects, poses and stances, character designs, that they literally make all western games look dated now. They’ve really pulled ahead. There is a coolness of it all that just isn’t there in the west.

I like the action, looks cool. But I can’t tell how much depth there is from this video, doesn’t look mashy but is the ice attack elemental damage or just a big attack, are there different weapons, stats or a skill tree? And it seems to be easy to read enemy attacks here, they kind of hold a bit too long before the strike. Could be early game I guess.

The script and acting and lip sync and some gameplay mechanics makes it feel a tad old. Too linear in structure, old gamey ways to progress and the chatter is already annoying. Having a side-character shout ”up here!”, ”hit the pillar”, ”we need to go there”, ”now we can reach across!” etc will forever piss me off. I don’t need that. Let me figure out stuff by myself, if a game is fun I won’t drop it after wondering what to do for a minute. Super Metroid had me going from one side of the map to the other in search for a path forward, was my all time #1 for 30 years.

Anyhow, this is already on my Steam wishlist!

Like Stellar Blade, this probably has 8/10 potential. The trailer for this was much more hype than the actual gameplay walkthrough.

A stepdown on combat mechanics from SB, interesting setting and art-style though.

The dialogue sounds like it's been generated using AI. The English VA for the kid is atrocious.

Looks great. When western studios were focusing on wokeness, dei and other horrible changes (women uglification), chinese/korean/eastern companies have upped their game.

Western companies need to finally realize WHO is buying their games.

Ok yeah… This is like FINAL FANTASY 16 + Lightning Returns. Even the HUD is inspired by FF16. Interesting.

In the battle at the end, you can kind of even hear phrases of the FF prelude in a different key too?? Around 8:15 mark and after…

Looks good but there is something off with the VA. Also I see a future colab with Stellar Blade haha..

Next time play him on renegade.

She does do decent damage with her attacks, the odd times you can hit the boss. Its very cinematic so I expect it wants you to play by the rules and not add for much variation. The font and resting spots are quite identical to Stellar Blade, Wukong etc. But I liked both games and the style and characters of this look more compelling than either.

For now I say day one.

Looks very inspired by Stellar Blade which I'll not complain about. I really like the knight summon special attacks. It reminds me a bit FFXVI (which I'll be honest scare me a bit because combat of FFXVI was fun for 10 min then got very quickly boring, but I don't think it will be the case here).

Visually, like in the trailer, there is something off for me. Feels bland. But it's not the final build so will see. It's funny because the last minute (the trailer like moment with all the edit of different moment) looks much interesting visually to my eyes.

I keep a close look on this one.

The fast paced combat is way more my style than the slower combat of popular action games these days so I'm pretty hyped for this. A Chinese studio also means good looking characters and no woke BS. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one.

Jesus, the voice acting is fucking dreadful! :)

This does have my attention, though. I'm glad she's not screaming YAA! YAAA! YAAAAAAAAR! every time she does an attack, like in Stellar Blade. That turned me off the game right away, as it just became so annoying to listen to.

Edit: also, they've given her a gorgeous pair of legs

Yeah. To the point that there should be an "Inspired by" card at the beginning. I enjoyed FF16, though so I'm curious. I hope there's a demo.

Like, I'm grateful that it's not another shitty soulslike, but I'm not convinced by the combat so far, too little of substance being shown beside it being flashy.

World design and combat look extremely cool/stylish.

As great as the world looks, the dialogue is very vapid, the lines in this trailer are painfully cliche. Also contradictory. Likes there's a part where they're like "ahhh! the scarlet waters! run! run!" and then a minute later a character says "remember, knights don't fear the sarlet (sic) waters." The spelling of "scarlet" can be easily fixed later but the anti-logical dialogue fail of running in terror from whatever scarlet waters are, then a little later saying they're nothing to fear, I just get the feeling the story may be goofy nonsense. As much as I want to believe it would be super cool with its post-apocalyptical fem-swapped knights of the round, it might end having a "Madame Web" level story based on this trailer.

This is reminds me a lot of Babylon's Fall original gameplay reveal + a sprinkle of God of War 3 and Bayonetta.

Reveal trailer + extended gameplay the next day. Comments are not disabled. Take notes Naughty Dog. :messenger_beaming:
Looks very fun to play, finally character action games are making a comeback after a decade + of Souls like.
Regarding story/characters, I couldn't care less. This is a game, those things are secondary and just a reason to hack and slash.

Read an interview where Tencent funded both this game and Black Myth Wu Kong somewhat in conjunction together. Black Myth was supposed to appeal to Eastern audiences while this game is appealing Western audiences. Given the sales of BMW, I am sure Tencent regrets trying to appeal to the West with this game

Also, when the fuck is Project Awakening?

The game clicks with me all around. I cannot explain why it "clicks" with me. Maybe the setting, main character, gameplay, graphics. Maybe all together.

I'm really looking forward to it's release, whenever that may be.

I am wondering if this is something to do with the camera being far away for a lot of the combat. In Stellar Blade, the camera is pretty close to Eve and the action front and center. In this, there was a lot of times where the camera kind of felt out of the way of the action which did make the combat feel weird.

Yeah that looks fantastic, potentially another Stellar Blade situation here.
Main girls voice is fine, but that companions VA, jeez she's bad. "Scaarlet WARTER".

No matter who make these games, the villain trash talk is always the most generic eye rolling taunts ever.
Game looks amazing.
