What happened to all the people that were cheering over that MS Activision acquisition?

So many people were awfully smug during that entire acquisition of Activision trying to paint it as somehow being good for gaming. It made zero sense.

Sure if I knew it would have resulted in Forza and Halo being on PS5 i’d have agreed, but pretty sure that was not on anyone’s bingo card.

What has the acquisition actually resulted in? Layoffs, studio shut downs, and a complete implosion of the xbox brand.

The threads now are mostly people just (rightfully) dunking on phil or whatever but I genuinely wonder where the people that were pro acquisition are now AND at what point they realized they were a clown?

What has it impacted exactly? I see nothing wrong with the acquisition.

Implosion of the Xbox brand.. give me a break. Everyday there's another Xbox doom and gloomy thread and its getting boring.

According to another user the Xbox brand imploded because they are releasing their games on PC day one 😂

Everybody has a different view on it.

By the way, I dont own an Xbox but I do own a PS5, competition is good and Xbox leaving the console business would be horrible for consumers.

But im glad we are all cheering on the Death of Xbox© over here

Layoffs are industry wide. Aside from switching owners its pretty much business as usual isn't it?

I think it's probably more likely they made the acquisition already knowing their strategy when we were in the dark.

Those who were looking forward to COD being on Game Pass were proven right, and Sony's fears were proven to be misguided and it didn't impact them at all.

All in all, it's just a talking point and hasn't impacted us as players at all.

Yeah, and the sales figures of the Series consoles paint a pretty bleak view of it.
Pretty sure that has nothing to do with the Activision acquisition though? They were already bad.

No wonder after most gamers left Xbox in the past after the Xbox One DRM fiasco. They went over to Sony's PS4 and never looked back. Logically ofcourse, Xbox One had nothing interesting to offer gamers.

Xbox Series X is a much better device but optics on Xbox are just soured to the point of people not wanting to invest in its ecosystem.

They hide in the gaming threads mostly and pretend that they're neutral gamers or that they never championed the acquisition to begin with to save themselves the embarrassment. And some of them have switched allegiances from xbox gamers to PC gamers or nintendo gamers etc.

The acquisition resulted in a forced third party stance which resulted in people no longer feeling the need to purchase the console. This new strategy resulted in MS having their worst year - ever - for console sales. You really couldn’t connect the dots?

Xbox Series hasn't been doing well since launch. PS5 has left them in the absolute dust.

Why would consumers step into a platform ecosystem where none of their friends are?

Your thinking that it has anything to do with exclusives is dumb, sorry.

Ofcourse not having interesting games has a lot to do with the system not selling in the first place, but optics around Xbox were already bad to begin with. Regardless of this strategy switch.

Thanks for the excuse to bust out this gem.

At what point of the proceedings did Microsoft realise they couldn’t make these games exclusive?

I think that’s when Satya stepped in and forced Xbox to go from being a console platform to a third party games publisher.

It was and still is a good move for Microsoft having a gaming presence.

My question is where are people that thought the Switch was going to fail.

Are you maybe confusing GAF posters with the clickbait YouTube personalities? Personally when it comes to GAF, I don’t think it’s played out like either side expected.

On one side you had people worried this would mean MS was taking CoD exclusive to Xbox and it would dramatically change the market and that never happened.

On the other side you had Xbox posters excited for an onslaught of ABK games on GamePass and that never happened either.

We are all still here from both sides.

Not sure why that is a bad thing. Dumbass console war bullshit.
I am not sure if it is a good or bad thing but it is not warrior bullshit. It is the boss of Microsoft saying that they are pretty much bowing out of the console race. It was not that long ago that Xbox meant the console to most people. This new "Xbox is a platform" was created after the ABK acquisition and people use it wanting to prolong the warrior BS. You are right though, console warring is bs.

Literally in your same reply you state exclusives are “dumb” but then say xbox had no interesting games. I guess Sony's exclusives did have a positive impact on its optics?

Oh boy... A lot to unpack there..

So many people were awfully smug during that entire acquisition of Activision trying to paint it as somehow being good for gaming. It made zero sense.

What has the acquisition actually resulted in?

- Arguably one of the most popular games in the world on a subscription service, playable on release, with more to come
- No more bullshit marketing and console exclusive content

Layoffs, studio shut downs, and a complete implosion of the xbox brand.

Your argument that the acquisition has resulted into all of the above is not supported by the simple fact that layoffs happened industry wide. There were no extraordinary layoffs as a result of the acquisition compared to what happened in the industry.

Stop tribalizing around pro or against acquisition. Are there benefits to gamers post acquisition than pro acquisition? The answer is yes and that is all that matters.

It's still mind boggling to me how a platform that offers so much benefits to gamers is being shat on, on a forum supposedly by and for gamers.
