Xbox: Over 1,000 Games Now Supported on Play Anywhere Program

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Also on this episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Jason Ronald shared that over 1,000 titles are now supporting Xbox Play Anywhere. When players purchase an Xbox Play Anywhere game, you can enjoy it on Xbox and Windows 10/11 PCs at no additional cost, bringing your saves, progress, achievements, with you across devices. This flexibility holds obvious value for players, but Ronald also shared some player metrics showing Xbox Play Anywhere’s value for developers as well.

“When we look at data for titles that are Xbox Play Anywhere enabled, these titles get 20% more gameplay because it’s more flexible, because I can play on the go,” said Ronald.

There is probably going to be a big push on this program going forward, as "Xbox" PCs start becoming a thing.

I really enjoy the Play Anywhere feature in Forza Horizon 5. I can play on both PC and console with one purchase and with cloud saves being shared I can pick up and keep going wherever I want to play.

It really sucks that Microsoft is crapping the bed so badly with Xbox because I feel that ideas like Play Anywhere and Quick Resume are very compelling and are just going to go down with the ship.

As Xbox transitions away from being a console to a Windows PC based brand and store, expect more emphasis on “Play Anywhere”.

Xbox Series S/X will be the last hardware to support non-PlayAnywhere titles.

.1,000+ is already a significant number, and they definitely recognize the arrival of "a lot, a lot more" in the future, inviting everyone to learn more at GDC.

PlayAnywhere is the most user-friendly option available and definitely something they will need to strengthen and secure to ensure the strategy they've invested in of they want a chance of success on it.

Sounds like a legal nightmare to me.

It’s technically possible through emulation, but third parties wouldn’t allow it.
Yeah, but a man can dream! Sucks, Xenia isn't really stable. Nowhere near RPCS3. Which is crazy considering the PS3 was insane to program for.

Holy shit.

Edit: Actually, MechAssault 1 and 2 is what I really want ported over to newer platforms.
Yeah the first saints row is also locked to Xbox series, one, and 360. I mean you can emulate it, but 360 emulation kinda sucks.

Its not entirely accurate. I have DoA4 on Series X unless I'm mistaken.
Ah. Alright. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with how that works in the Xbox ecosystem. Could I just go to the Xbox online store and buy MechAssault 1 and 2 and play it via BC?

It's complicated. I'd have to check on those 2.

1) Many games are available to use digitally.
2) Many games are available to use only from the disc.
3) Many games are available to use digitally but are no longer for sale. You can still download them indefinitely though if you bought it.
4) Many games are still for sale.

Sorry, nope.

There are only 61 OG Xbox games that were put in the backwards compatibility program.

Can I please just get Import Tuner Challenge to work on anything other than my Xbox 360 so that I can finally pack that console away in storage.

VP of Next Gen Jason Ronald says “many many more” Play Anywhere titles are on the way.

If they pull this off, Xbox gamers will enter the golden age. Keep all your Xbox stuff. Keep the system UI and console ease of use. Add everything you've been missing on PC, including most modern PS stuff, some missing Japanese games, and missing indies. Keep GP. Play on your TV or on the go if you want.

Fingers crossed I guess. We'll see.

I like this move. It gives them flexibility to continue the console after next generation or they can kill it and libraries will still be accessible via PC. It definitely sounds better than libraries only being accessible by streaming if the next generation is the last Xbox console.

Nobody said there isn't decent games.....
Yes, but these are literally games in the screenshot in the tweet you posted above calling them "shovelware".

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Looked at his Twitter for 5 seconds and he keeps quoting the place where all the banned ponies have gathered so he is just getting his marching orders from his leader

Wouldn't be surprised if he's a co-founder of the place or something, or if he's also on GAF 🤷‍♂️

Uhm sure. But there are alot of games that would qualify as that.

There's a lot of games released on all platforms that qualify as that.

You should follow better people on twitter.

What will publishers value more? Giving games away "for free" or forcing gamers to double dip if they want a play a game on both PC and console?

Think Sesame Street GIF

Sure it does. That's why these big numbers are just nice for PR

Right, but the feature is great for the games it works at. And there's more than enough great games.

I mean you're gettning two copies of the game for the price of one, there's literally nothing to complain about. 🤷‍♂️

I'm already using GeForce NOW to play my Steam library (limited to the games available on Nvidia's cloud). Since PC Game Pass is also compatible with GeForce NOW, it adds even more value to both services in my case. Plus, PC Game Pass includes its own Cloud Gaming feature, which is a nice bonus.

I also have a CloudDeck account, and I have this habit, wherever I go, if there's a screen, I try to convince the owner to let me hook up and play. My wife can't stand it, but I find it hilarious. I've definitely gotten more "no's" than "yes's", but when I do get a "yes"? Bruh!

Like one time at Ricky T’s, when the staff actually let me plug into one of their screens via HDMI. I played and drank for hours with a bunch of random, equally tipsy niggas. It was amazing, until Google Fi hit its high-bandwidth cap and shut my ass down. Their WiFi was useless, completely overloaded with locals who weren’t even at the bar. I'm surprised I don't see other gamers doing this sort of shit.

The staff at my local Sam's club was pretty damn cool as well. It's where I purchased my 85inch because they let me hook up my tablet and play a few games to see how they look. BestBuy & Walmart Staff said no so I let them keep their shit. When Sam's saw how many people started gathering around me and Rocket League on a 85inch, they were sad to see me go. lol This is where it all started because my wife takes so long to shop I have to find something to do.

In Orange Beach, Alabama, the hotel had a beach bar with a pool area and just one TV screen. Since it was evening downtime and the bar wasn’t busy, the tender (for a modest $40 tip) let me hook up my Switch. People kept walking by, catching a glimpse of the game, and going, “Wait, they have smash Bros? And I’d hit them with, “I’ll buy you a drink if you beat me one on one” Nine times out of ten, they were like, Say less. Next thing I knew, their was several of us just talking shit and challenging each other to duels.

Good times.

Anyway, Play Anywhere has come in handy for me on a few occasions like those. I forgot to mention them, but if you've made it this far, you get the idea.
