Valve launches beta of DotaTV Live Streaming

This is from last week actually, but there was no thread for it and Anno's post from the Reborn thread reminded me of it.

We’re also launching the beta of DotaTV’s Live Streaming, which you can find in the new Watch section on Dota2.com. Games are broadcast at up to 1080p at 60 frames per second and feature real-time stats, graphs and match data. The Watch section gives you quick access to the most-viewed Dota matches currently being streamed through Steam Broadcasting. The full broadcast for The International will also be available for viewing on this new platform.

Haven't messed with it much, obviously doesn't give the freedom of the in-game spectator, but compared to Twitch all the data you need is being shown constantly. And I take it the quality of the TI stream is going to be better than Twitch? Will probably get hammered during TI though, lol.

edit: Since this is based on Steam Broadcasting:

from the SB beta FAQ said:
What are the browser requirements for watching?

Steam Broadcasting is currently supported by the following browsers:

  • Steam Client (beta client)
  • Google Chrome (version 39+)
  • Apple Safari (version 8+ on OSX)
  • Internet Explorer (version 11 on Windows 8; not supported on other versions of Windows)

edit2:

FYI, Steam broadcasting appears to work just fine on Firefox as well, at least in version 39 and up.
The trouble is that Mozilla hasn't whitelisted Steam for MSE, currently only YouTube, Netflix and Dailymotion are whitelisted.

That whitelist will likely be removed in 42, but if you want to watch Steam broadcasts in Firefox right now, just enter about:config and toggle the media.mediasource.whitelist setting to false.

Pretty neat, player is like YouTube's streaming where you can scrub back live to when you first started watching. Clicking on the players on the left pulls up their stats on the bottom panel. Can also select them by clicking directly on the minimap

Would be interesting if Valve expanded the streaming functionality so other devs could hook into it into their games the same way.

neat if you are on a computer that don't have DOTA2 installed

but i'll probably prefer Twitch... because of the chat

Huh, that's weird lol. I ignore the chat. I mean there's not a lof of constructive things going on there, unless you like it when something happens and watch the chat freak out lol.

Btw this also has a chat.

Will use when streamers can reduce the viewport size to one tenth of the screen, cover the rest in dank memes and a bigger stream of themselves. Until then Twitch stays #winning

Oh, I'm using Cyberfox 39. Will try that. Though, I'm also using Chrome, so no big deal.

edit: tried it, works, but the lower data window is covering the navigation bar on the vid.

Yeah, it looks like the Dota 2 watch page needs some more CSS work, I can manually increase the space allotted to the video and make the controls visible. Probably an easy fix from Valve's end.
Regular broadcasting page layout doesn't suffer from this either.

This is pretty cool. Maybe off topic: but I always hoped that Valve would next leverage their in-home streaming stuff for browser-based spectating. Imagine having full map control without having to download the full client to your laptop or what not. Anyone else see that as a future possibility?

i dont understand where this valve doesnt do anything for cs thing comes from

its so dumb

you must have a memory of a goldfish or never played like... any other valve game right now if you believe that

yeah tf2 and day of defeat TOTALLY get more support than cs go

Judging by the videoplayer it's just Steam Broadcasting with live data from the game.

thats precisely what it is

you can even put in random people's stream info and it works with it

yeah, the layout definitely needs work. With proper spectating when there's 10 players on the left I can't even see the map on the bottom.
