This is an updated version of what's in arcade cabinets now, right? Does that mean the console version will be based on this new version?

Yeah, this is a planned update for the arcades and will be what console versions will be based on. The same as what happened with Tekken 6 and Tag 2.

So Akuma skipped SFV (initially) to make a guest appearance in Tekken? Cool.

As a fan of both franchises, this is exciting not just because of the cameo, but also because it looks like they kept his moveset largely intact. Can't wait to see how he plays out.

The Amiga Brotherhood
hard to find proper screenshots for Vanilla version..and FR has weird filters on their screenshots..

Maybe i'm wrong but imo this upgrade seems to be mostly Physic Based Rendering's merit, materials in the second picture are more realistic and different than in the first picture.

tekken is just a fan service series now right? nobody seems to take it seriously at competitive level

nevertheless, akuma looks awesome here
bruh, this was announced at a big Tekken 7 tournament in Japan.

Tekken has always been taken seriously in the East. it's less popular in the US, but so what

Akuma is a test bed for TekkenXSF no doubt....

Although i wonder who would win in a fight, Devil Jin Vs Akuma, considering Heihachi is the weakest out of the Mishima's that we know and Jin is canonically the strongest.

I wonder what Akuma's relationship to Kazumi actually is though...

Akuma's footage looked straight out of Street Fighter. I suspect those Hadokens will be op in this game. The few projectiles that exist in Tekken are slow and can be sidestepped or ducked. I wonder how they're going to approach them here.

Can't remember the last time I was interested in Tekken but it looks phenomal. Akuma has really transitioned well, would love to see more SF characters in this engine.

If Akuma does carry out Kazumi's wish to kill Kazuya & Heihachi, wouldn't that leave Jin as the last living member of the Mishima bloodline (even though he abandoned the fighting style for more traditional karate)?

Crossover characters are becoming increasingly popular in Japanese and Indie titles. Part of their strategy to remain relevant against AAA behemoths.

Also, I have no idea where you are getting your impression from.

Yet! C'mon people, it's not a Street Fighter game without Akuma. He's gonna be in there!
This is the first time I have doubted Akuma as a secret character in SFV. It makes sense that they would want to temporarily give T7 Akuma exclusivity in next gen fighters to increase the draw.

Tekken has been going for 20 years without needing a reboot or hiatus. It is still the best selling fighting franchise of all time. pls consider these facts before you imply that Tekken is done.

Wasn't Tekken 3 pretty much a reboot? Certainly the most successful time jump in a fighting game series commercially... although SF3 and MOTW are still fantastic games in their own right.

Tekken is huge at EVO, mind you.

it's definitely not huge at evo

yeah I know, it was inaccurate to say nobody, but I feel it's very odd how small the competitive scene is in relation to Tekken sales. I think Tekken as a competitive fighter has declined since its peak (Tekken 5).

As seen from the snippets of footage in the trailer, can be sidestepped. Also no block damage in Tekken ;)

Not sure if it would be considered a reboot but I do agree it's the best time jump in fighting game. Tekken 3 basically established modern Tekken.

You weren't trolling? More lol.
Tekken just had close to 1000 entrants at MasterCup.

I don't know what you're talking about.

I'm impressed, yet disappointed. Now that akuma is in the this, then Tekken X Street Fighter is not forgotten. I'm disappointed that this trailer should've be announced after Tekken 7's release.

Man the jump in graphics in this game is good. All I need now is Lei then I am ready to join the Iron Fist Tournament once again.

"I don't have time for street fighting. I need to destroy the Mishima bloodline!"

And thus ends the Mishima saga.

"Kazuya.... I am your father."
"NOOOOOoooooo!"

I expect this.

Surprising how much more they've managed to push the graphics... especially when Tekken 7 is known to have short freezes here and there.

I wonder if they've upgraded the hardware in line with an inevitable PC version announcement.

So you're changing the narrative already? It's easily the largest 3D fighter in the west and one of biggest fighting games world wide competitively.

And you people need to stop calling Lili ugly. Cold hearted monsters.

I have no words right now. Legit shook that Akuma is in T7, and instead of being a guest character they're actually tying him to the canon, making him a part of the universe? Fuuuuuuck yesssssssss!

And the graphic updates, hoooooly shit. Our little Xiaoyu finally grew up! ;_;

I never stopped believing in TxSF!!!

All of my hype yassssssssssssssssssssss!

More like they had not polished up their engine enhancements for the initial Arcade release and have been doing so since then. Comparing SF5 launch trailer to today, its similar in jump.

I don't think it has much to do with stronger HW.

Harada, you surprised me. I didn't expect the graphic upgrade and Akuma. Well done, now there are multiple reasons to buy tekken 7.

Holy shit, that trailer was awesome.

Maybe they will finally reveal TxSF after T7 launches on consoles.
I also hope for a SFxTK2, loved that game and really want a new one without the things that destroyed the original.

Wasn't it announced that Tekken 7 will have some sort of VR component? I'm curious to see what that could even be. Not sure how it would work for this game.

Akuma in the game is exciting!
