No Man's Sky pre-orders start March 3rd, $59.99

You can play offline and discover all the planets in the game yourself, if you so choose.

Pretty sure Sean said you do not need PSN or PS+ to play No Man's Sky.

Unless they changed the game since then? I have no idea.

Price is fine.

Personally I'll still wait for a heavy price drop. I'm curious about the game but nothing they have shown has looked very interesting to me. It's like the ultimate version of one of the things I really dislike about modern games.

I'm okay with that price but then more price diversity within indie developed games can only be a good thing as it broadens the types of games that can be developed at that level. I'll likely pick the game up at launch provided there are no major issues.

Fifty nine ninety nine US dollars?!!

I hope it's good for that money. Not seeing the hype myself. If Sony hadn't given this center stage it would just be another $20 Indie game, hidden among the other million with much less fanfare.

No. It wouldn't.

The reason Sony got involved is precisely because it wasn't "just another indie".

If it fulfills its promises, then I'd pay way more than $60. Seems like an artificial number really that has no logical tie to "value"

As I get older, I find less and less games that hold my attention so if its quality, I'll gladly pay the premium for it.

I'd pre-order it if they offered anything - but pre-ordering a digital game doesn't make much sense.

It's not that they are indie. This game is being published by Sony for crying out loud. Indie isn't part of the equation.

The reason this seems like a bad value proposition is that they have promoted how quick it was to make, that they were able to generate most of the content procedurally, and that they had such a small team.

Beyond this, they haven't shown much of what kind of game it is, and the gameplay still seems vague and underdeveloped. The game seems more like a tech demo or screensaver at the moment, and by those standards $60 seems like a lot to ask.

You should probably go back and look at all the info they have released since its initial reveal in 2013 to relate to what kind of game it is, what you can do in said game, and how much work it has taken for them to get said game into a launchable state. There are plenty of threads out there you can use to educate yourself on all of these aspects, because that information is definitely out there.

False modesty is bragging to me.

Not sure how you get that unless you are complaining about a game and a dev you know nothing about and have yet to watch a single video or read an article related to either.

Correct response. Folks complaining about the price should wait.

However, the more you wait, the less likely you'll be the first to discover a planet. Tough choice?
Yep, I gotta have this game day 1.

And Sony revealing the price three months before release is a pretty decent heads-up.

Is it like Endless Ocean on Wii

Is it like Russel Grant's Astrology on DS?

I'll be there day one, but I'm not preordering until it has a firm release date. Definitely gonna be worth full price. It's probably gonna be a game I will play a little bit regularly for years to come provided the exploration is worthwhile.

If it's $60 I expect a retail release, In Europe at least.

I don't think the game is being published by Sony, just backed/supported by them in some fashion.

I don't understand the outrage over the price tag at all. Is this a case of expectations not matching up with reality? Do some of you think that just because something is an "indie game" they don't deserve to charge what they think is right for the thing they put blood, sweat and tears into? I am genuinely curious.

Your definition of false modesty is idiotic.

Please.

Let's not resort to personal attacks.

I will say again that this is a marketing problem in my eyes. I simply haven't been sold on this as a full-price experience.

The fact that I and others feel this way should suggest that Hello Games has some more work to do to get people to want this game at this price.

My head hurts after reading this thread.
It's absolutely infuriating how people flat out deny NMS' value without even giving it a fair chance. Where is the outcry when publishers release garbage like Thief for 60 bucks with a straight face?
Just give them the benefit of the doubt and wait for reviewers you trust in for crying out loud.

I don't know. I feel like if you're into space games and have been with this game since day 1 asking for full price ain't too bad. But I'm not into space games so my opinion on this doesn't really matter.

No one complains when big devs put out shit game after shit game at 60 bucks for some reason

For some reason those people are dumb enough to think bloated teams and inefficient processes justify larger price tags than the actual content they're receiving. It is the stupidest thing peddled on this forum.

Don't care how much it costs. Just announce a release date already. Until then I ain't preordering. Also, is this thing launching simultaneously on PC?

That's is because people whine about games just being sequels and yearly repeats but they secretly like it that way because they know what it is worth.

When people don't know what to expect, or something is new they may make a fuss about it. This was true of the Witness and it is true of No Man's Sky.

There are 18 quintillion planets in the game. In 100 year when some kid decides to do some retro gaming and fires it up, he/she will be the first to discover plenty of planets.
You sure that's how many planets there are? That's insane. Guess y'all can wait for price drop.

How does it work though? If you don't discover a planet, I mean. I mean, I'm lost at how the fuck it works! My mind can't process this number. It's scary.

I won't be paying that much for it but a company charging a price for a game that other companies often charge for their games really isn't a big fucking deal.

I wonder if Neil Armstrong complained about stuff like this.

Yeah, we... I think we're actually agreeing here lol. They can ask whatever price they want. But just because they believe it's worth X doesn't mean consumers also believe it's worth X.

lol. Right! I just think that's their decision to make and stand by! :)

I have yet to see anything about NMS that screams must buy apart from its potential, but I'm not paying close to $90 for potential. Gonna have to hope that a friend decides to pick it up so I can give it a go myself before I pick it up. I really hope this turns out to be something very special.

Thanks for this.

It isn't even an indie game then!

People are being unfair making the reactions to the price into something they aren't.

This isn't about indie vs. AAA games.

Pretty sure a lot of people complain about exactly that, especially this gen with a lot of games releasing undercooked.

But I don't know what to think about No Man's Sky as I really don't have a handle on what it has to offer. I've seen the really short gameplay demos, but there wasn't much to them.

Definitely interested but will wait on reviews to have any idea of whether $60 seems reasonable or not.

Sean Murray was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, just like all those other $20 indie games.

Oh good, a price thread. Been at least a week since we had one of those.

If you don't like the price, don't buy the game. If you're ok with it, buy the game.

Day 1.

Space: The final frontier
These are the voyages of the Starship, Enterprise
Its 5 year mission
To explore strange new worlds
To seek out new life and new civilizations
To boldly go where no man has gone before

It has the potential to be one of the best space adventure games ever. Price is not an issue for me but I can understand that others have a price ceiling when it comes to indies.

Absolutely day 1 purchase as it's one of the reasons I bought a PS4. Don't mind the price at all. Would gladly have paid $60 for the amount of enjoyment I got out of Minecraft. This looks even more structured than that.

And, I fucking loved Joe Danger and even Joe Danger 2.

Great point about Minecraft, but I'm sure that will get turned around into "But Minecraft was only $15 so why isn't this?"

Everything about this game just looks awesome (to me) and there is so much that we haven't seen. A lot of people (like myself) want to jump on board early and start exploring. Others will wait, and they'll still have their opportunities to discover. There is always a concern with any game regarding how long it will kee your attention. I just can't wait to try to find my friends online and just have fun.

I sorta wonder if that blog post was put up on purpose, with the price, then taken down knowing people will see it just to get a feeler of how people react to the price.

Why are people shocked at the price tag? Is it because the game feels indie which makes you think cheap costing games, or do you generally think a game like this shouldn't be $60?
