What did you think of the montage with Superman saving people intercut with the news broadcasts

"does there need to be a Superman?"
"well there is"

That whole scene along with the opening is A+ imo

Really clever. In some ways this feels like a better watchmen movie than his watchmen movie if that makes any sense

He just applied it to the wrong characters

Can't comment on BvS yet but the first half of Fant4stic is a good movie

Then it becomes a Fantastic Four movie and everything goes to shit
Man..I guess you have higher tolerance for shit than I do. Reed's science teacher ALONE makes the beginning of that movie ridiculous.
Do yuo have a paypal account buddy?
lol..terrible.
Also, Sad Affleck has just 5 million less views than the final trailer for Batman v Superman.

Sad Affleck: 10.6
BvS Trailer 3: 15.4

Yeah, that Phantom Menace comparison is totally off base.

I'm really not seeing any people who are clearly trying to convince themselves the movie was good.

You're coming off as super elitist here, Garlador, not sure if that's your intention.
I absolutely have. Plenty.

I said there were a lot of people who wanted to like the film so much that they convinced themselves it was good and outright ignored the flaws, and I said I've seen a lot of people do this with BvS already. I didn't single you or anyone else out (I have buddies right now going "this movie was flawless, man! No flaws! It's Batman v Superman! It has no flaws because the premise was flawless!"... and I know those friends well enough to know that time won't be kind to this opinion).

Similarly, I also said there are people out there who legitimately love the Prequel Trilogies, no delusions involved. They love Jar-Jar Binks and midichlorians and Anakin's acting and they're genuine in that love, no matter how much other people hate or make fun of those elements. It's all ultimately opinion, just as there are people who despise Lex Luthor in this film while I've read some people saying he's the highlight of the film.

That's not elitism, just an observation. I haven't seen fanboys get themselves up in a tizzy like this since the Phantom Menace and, to a lesser degree, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (though even those movies, despite how mocked they are currently, had enough critical praise at release to make them certified fresh.)

Whether you like or dislike the film really doesn't bother me, though I would PREFER DC go in a different direction. After two films, like the Transformers or Twilight franchise, I have resigned myself to the fact I will not be enjoying the Zack Snyder-led DC Universe, but if there is a fan following for the films, by all means enjoy them. Inevitably, we'll get a different Batman years down the line, and if nothing else no film can "ruin my childhood" because I still own the Batman: Animated Series and Mask of the Phantasm and those seem pretty timeless and age-proof at this point.

well not really...yet

Will you watch the director's cut

For me the movie is a solid 6/10 I think, but I really think the DC can improve it in regards to restoring proper story and character flow

I'm gonna buy it because I like throwing away my money lol and also because that first 30 min is legitimately great

Between my batman fandom and my morbid curiosity in what the other 30 minutes is like I definitely will check it out.

Imo tho a lot needs to be edited and taken out rather than just simply added. I hope the new cut is paced differently

You summed up snyder well with that post. He directs great sequences but often sandwiches them in bad pacing and stupid decisions.

If I were WB, I'd offer Nolan the rest of the series and whatever JL picture they try to shit out at this point.

Pay the man whatever he wants. The franchise will make it back in the future if they can establish that the movies won't suck.

GSG Flash

This actually had a climax worse than avengers 2 imo. I never thought this would happen but whedon directed cgi mess action much better than snyder did. The doomsday scene was unintelligible at times

Snyder is damn good at making superman look frightening tho.

Still the best action scene of either movie by far is that man of Steel recap. One of my GOAT comic book movie scenes for sure

I think Snyder should honestly give up directing and become a full time cinematographer, he would probably be one of the best in the business. He can't cut it with directing, for me he's pretty much on Uwe Boll level right now.

Considering that it had over 100k audience ratings and a 90%+ score within hours of the movie hitting theaters, no it doesn't. The fact that the score has dropped so much despite the ballot stuffing by DC fans to artificially raise the score is pretty telling about what the actual audience really thinks about this movie.

The only way to save the DCEU is for flash to stop Man of Steel from happening with time travel. Like if he can contact bat man thru the speedforce, why the hell did he not warn Superman about Zod? Or just speedpunch Lex in the dick when he was about to create doomsday.

To be fair it's probably now ballot stuffing from people who are just jumping on the hate parade

It's almost impossible to take anything from these types of metrics when a movie is in the spotlight like this one is

lol, the list of things with a higher audience score would be fun to go through, but I won't bother.

Anyways, audience score doesn't count for much with the ballot stuffing that was going on.

Very true.

Picked up time travel tips from Jean Luc Picard.

That settles it. The only way the DCEU can be saved at this point is with a Flashpoint/Crisis movie where Flash has to stop the events of Man of Steel from ever happening.

Shit, that could work.

Have to stop the world (and the audience) from ever hating him in the first place.

It's interesting to me that Watchmen is my favorite comic movie and, after seeing this today, Batman v Superman is now my number two. Then I read the discussions and the film is getting the same kind of response as Watchmen.

In both films I love the style, type of music used to enhance scenes, and the slower pace. People are different.

Saw this last night. Here are some thoughts (also posted this in the spoiler thread)/

Bad/not so good:

- All of the dream/knightmare sequences weren't really necessary. They killed the flow of the movie, and a lot of people watching wouldn't be able to tell what's going on

- As said many times before, the movie could have been edited a lot better. There were a lot of really fast or weird cuts and some poor transitions

- I felt like the build-up to the BvS fight took too long, and audiences would have gotten bored or confused by the time it took place

- Man, they didn't give Clark/Superman a lot to work with in terms of interaction/dialogue. His lines were too short, and he had limited interaction with anybody else not named Lois Lane. Henry Cavil also had this weird constipated look for most of the movie

- Lex Luthor was not compelling at all. I usually feel like the best villains are the ones that make you root for them, or at the very least, make you very interested in their villainous scheme. Eisenberg's luthor didn't do either for me. It's also quite different from the calm/non-eccentric Luthor I've known.

- The fight scenes were good but I don't think they were as good as the ones in recent Marvel movies like Winter Soldier and Ultron. Probably because most fight scenes in those movies take place in bright or well-lit environments, whereas most of BvS' fight scenes take place in dark environments and there are times when you can't really see what's going on. I was also hoping to see more team-up/tag-team sequences in the fight scenes.

- Amy Adams is a pretty good actress, but I wish they didn't make Lois Lane a walking plot device.

- Felt like Superman took a lot of Ls in this movie
(losing to Batman, getting nuked, being killed by Doomsday, always getting hit/tossed). He felt like a jobber, and rarely had any moment of bad-assery/triumph.

Okay/good:

- I'm not sure if the score is as good or better than Zimmer's work in the Batman trilogy or Man of Steel but it's still pretty good, together with Junkie XL's work

- Ben Affleck had the best on-screen presence (followed by Gal Gadot). The Batman fight scenes were well done as well, although yeah, it seems weird seeing Batman
not having a no kill rule.
Affleck also did some good acting as Bruce Wayne. You could feel and understand his weariness after almost 2 decades of being a vigilante, and his motivations for going up against Batman. Some great lines as well:
"I'm much older now than my father ever was", "this may be the only thing I do that matters"

- I do feel like they gave Wonder Woman just enough screen time to make audiences very excited for the Wonder Woman movie. Wonder Woman's part in the Doomsday fight was pretty great too (sword, shield, lasso, etc.)

- I also liked Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent (although she understandably had less screen time here than in MOS). Granted, the two are experienced and well-established actors at this point in they careers so most people would expect them to do well. Diane Lane/Martha Kent also had the best joke in the entire movie.

- Really liked how they teased other would-be members of the Justice league in the movie,
especially the research/video files that Lex had and how Diana watched each one (although I really didn't like Flash appearing in Bruce's dream)

- I think the Batman vs. Superman fight is the best part of the movie
(even if it took a long time to get to it).
-
Not so sure why they killed off Superman/used the death of Superman storyline this early, but it's something we haven't seen before so it's okay.

Overall

Just an okay effort. It's mostly an okay movie with just some moments of being good. Not great but not terrible either. It is quite disappointing that they didn't knock it out of the park with this movie, especially considering DC's top trinity is in the damn thing. Meanwhile, other lesser known/revered characters like Deadpool has had a good and very well-received movie. Guardians of the Galaxy also had an excellent and high-grossing movie as well. If this movie makes less than both Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy, DC/Warner should really take a look at what went wrong and how they can fix and improve their cinematic efforts.

Hell, X-Men DOFP successfully fixed their 2 worst movies by using time travel to retcon them out of existence, allowing them to keep the same actors and themes, but in an actually good universe.

I wouldn't be mad.

Let's just hope Ezra does an amazing job. His
appearance in BvS
was underwhelming to say the least.
