No Mans Sky | PC Performance Thread

I just read on reddit that some people refunded the Steam version cause it stuttered and hitched and then got the GoG version and it ran fine.

Anyone with GoG version can say how it runs?
Specifically hitching,stuttering

Wasn't there a game where an achievement caused stuttering because the game was constantly checking some statistic?

RTSS, Nvidia, nothing helped. Still stuttering when loading stuff and I'm using a SSD + i7. Capped at 30fps to see if it would help but nope.

Will try offline mode now (Steam).

i5 4670k,980ti,gsync reporting in: everything maxed I get from 70 up to 100+ fps.

Pretty smooth with some occassional stutter.

Pop in is definitely less noticeable. Now I want to kill chromatic aberration and hide the hud.

Game is awesome.

Yeah, made it to the third planet, performance is fine, game doesn't look bad, just pretty bored and the overheating multitool isn't something I want to endure just to upgrade in hopes that the gameplay loop gets better, so I'll be getting my money back.

Still, if you're interested and think it's a game you'd enjoy I don't think it's that bad of an idea to buy with the backup of a Steam refund, I wasn't optimistic, but my machine held at 60FPS maxed out at 1440, both on foot and in space just fine (3770k @ 4.1, 16GB, 980ti @ 1400). Here's planet 3, and here's a pic of the weird deer monster seen there.

The stutterings calmed to the point where it's only really every few minutes, and it'll hitch for a 2 second block, maybe with some other small stutters around it. CPU not at full load when it happens. Not really sure whether to play on over the 2 hours or refund it. I do like the game.

I'm so glad I held off on a purchase, I have an x6 1100t (4.1ghz) and after seeing the SSE 4.1 issue it's a big no go.

Shame, I held off just incase of iffy performance, I wasn't expecting it to beer this bad.

GOG (Galaxy) version has hitching and stuttering comparable to what I assume Steam users have.

It became a bit better (no multi-second pauses) once I enabled vsync in the nVidia control panel, but mouse controls are still garbage.

Welp, judging by the overwhelmingly negative response from both GAF and Steam reviews I will pump the brakes on this.

It's unfortunate seeing as how there's already been so much negativity around this game. Running well on PC is the last bastion of hope I had.

Bummer.

Hello Games

I got so drunk I am going all in. I seriously believe.

This is looking to be another PC "Master Race" FAIL

Another game that's main focus was on the console version and then ported to PC.

This is happening more and more to the point where I stopped caring about PC Gaming and my Gaming PC just collects dust. It's not worth the time and headache anymore. Especially for a guy like me who is married, has a career, and having a kiddo in the future. The sad thing is, I make more money now than ever and can afford a TRI-SLI 1080 setup if I wish. :(

Calm down. AMD just put out a new driver that seems to be doing the trick and I'm sure Nvidia is fast tracking one right now.

And it's always the case that the people who aren't having problems won't be posting as much as the people that are. Like 90% of the posts in here are from people with 970/1070/1080s so it might just be an Nvidia driver problem.

Sean is tweeting like a madman now:

Biggest issue reported so far is players without the Visual C++ Redist 2010. First PC patch released already! Update and restart if needed

Number two issue so far is players who have out of date GFX drivers, or none installed. Please install latest drivers from AMD and nVidia.

Number three please make sure your GFX card is above the min spec. OpenGL 4.5 is required to play No Man's Sky

I was really pumped to play but when I started off it almost turned me off completely. The lack of inventory space and sub optimal multi-tool was frustrating. Give it a bit, you will eventually upgrade the equipment and once you do the game play loop is very satisfying imo.

Second planet maintained 60FPS, game seems to be fine on my machine. Found some creatures, made it to the first space station, learned the word "interloper" in some alien language. Here's a pic of a cave near where I landed on the second planet.

Performance would be perfectly acceptable. I've got another 30 minutes or so to decide if I want a refund. I'm not particularly enthralled with the gameplay, so I'll likely get one and wait until there's some more substance in the game. I've spent a lot of time in menus and it's just not grabbing me.
With reports of 980ti users saying it's fine has me relieved. The itch to buy this game purely for performance checking is finally leaving me. I said it before, but this game never really sold me. I'll watch more let's plays and finish the Giant bomb QL before I dump $60

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
Not directly related to the game's performance, but, are you guys/girls playing on kb+m or gamepad?

In all fairness I have to come back to this thread to update.

I requested the refund but thought I would give it another try.

I updated my GFX card drivers and downloaded the update.

Also switched to borderless window mode.

Game ran perfectly smooth in the 70fps range with my rig

i5 6500k 980ti 16 gigs of ram installed to SSD.

Sadly the refund went through halfway through my playtime once I got it running smoothly.

So I'll admit I was able to get it to run smoothly, the only thing i found in the 2 hours or so I played was I got bored pretty quick, but that's a whole different can of worms.

It's not like they won't patch the game. The dev said they plan on working on the game for the next few years, content, dlc, etc. People act like, oh, day 1 bugs, game is doomed! It's been a huge success, just not for you.

Just been reading Seans twitter. How the hell do you forget to distribute the VC++ 2010 runtime with your game, no wonder some gamers couldn't even start the game!!

So after 2 hours of play, the only 2 issues I've noticed were occasional frame rate drops, and some sort of texture rendering artifacting. Neither of the problems bother me that much. The frame drops are pretty rare so far.

I'm getting 120 - 160 fps @ 1080, and by the time I go to look at what my frame rate drops to, when it drops, it's already back up to normal.
All ingame settings are maxed out.

Rig:
i5 4670k oc'd to 4.2
MSI GTX 1080 Armour edition
16 GB ram

I'm loving this game so far. Each planet in my starting system has been diffrent.

I shit you not guys, I bought the steam version and it was a stuttering mess, I put through a refund and then just out of pure curiosity after reading a post saying the gog version runs fine I went and purchased the gog version...

But here's the thing, the gog version has no stuttering, no joke, I am deadly serious, I haven't had one hitch.

The hell?

It's alright onfoot, only minor gripe is that you need to hold the mous button to interact. Spaceship controls are shite though.

So, the FoV slider is broken, right?

You can change it to 140 in the ini settings and that worked for me.

That is fucking strange. Anyone else with the GOG version having no problems?

Meh just saying, I am so sick of dealing with driver issues for certain games, or weird graphics hacks etc in order to just simply play a game. And of course whether everyone likes it or not, mainstream games focus more on consoles because that is where the money is at. So bad ports like No Man's Sky are going to keep happening.

I just want to hit the power button and play.

Would be crazy that this all came down to errors with the Steam overlay's injection.

So he's straight up ignoring the concerns over multiplayer?

What a clown.

If he's being that tight lipped over something, the likely explanation is contractual obligation to Sony.

I have the GOG version and I have stuttering, though. Are you using Galaxy version or standalone?

Ugh, dreading how this is going to run on my i7-4690k, Titan X, 16 GB RAM considering higher end machines seem to have having more issue. Anyone attempt to run this as 4k with Gysnc?

I'm sorry but I have to refund this.

Stuttering, hitches, blurriness, insanely ugly graphics and my second planet now runs at 40fps even with all settings set to low.

This is on a 4.6ghz 2500k, 16GB RAM and a 970

I can't pay 60€ for this.
It's just...I can't.

I can buy two or three other games for that money that run properly and have better content.

Frequent sub 10 fps drops, no proper 21:9 support, overall terrible feel, 60 fps lock, looks horrible...

I have an i7, 16GB RAM and a dual 980 setup.

Asked for a refund.

2500k, 970, 10gb RAM. Game performs like complete ass. Constant stuttering and momentary freezing. Also hasn't Nvidia released drivers yet?
