So I'm mining gold on a planet that is -70c and I managed to conserve heat by mining my way down inside the golden tower I'm extracting from and using it as a kind of igloo. That's kind of brilliant that the game lets me do this.

Played for 3 hours or so and am already done. There's just nothing of substance to it for me. I don't necessarily have something against repetitive but usually these kinds of games have some form of creative outlet that I'm missing here.

Did encounter some pretty rad flying worms and a murdering teddy bear with antlers.
I'm not sure if that's normal but my 2nd planet had a bucketload of gold for me to farm. I didn't need to build a hyperdrive I just bought a ship with the hyperdrive already installed for 700k. I died for the first time on a planet that had graviton somethings just lying around guarded by sentinels.

Well just deleted my save after over 19 hours because this stupid hyperdrive problem. Despite Hello Games saying a quest will appear when it sees that you don't have a hyperdrive, it never did in 4 hours of tediously going from planet to planet doing random missions hoping it would trigger And restarting everything several times.

On the fence of just selling it and forgetting about it rather than starting all over.

I have a ship with hyperdrive, and have gotten the plans for a few, including an upgrade.

Yet none of these plans actually appear in my upgrade list.

No idea what is going on, I guess I'll have to jump to the center 5 damn stars at a time

After chasing around some goddamn birds for a long ass time I finally managed to scan all life on the planet...and it wont let me turn it in for the huge reward. It says every planet I've been on has 100% life found on it...

Haha, that's my technique too.

Also exploring became easier once I realised I could make my own caves with the grenade launcher.

Felt like I was cheating plus the planet was littered with drop pods so I'm up to 42 slots from 28 and have 2.6mil for a ship.

Doing the same now. So many buildings to get away from Sentinels or I just fly away and farm somewhere else.

I need a new ship so I can really focus on getting the mats for the Tau and Sigma upgrades.

Has anyone had an issue with getting 100% on a planet, but not being able to upload?

I decided to find all the species in my starting system, and after doing the first two planets, when I got to the third and found the last species there, it just says "100% complete" and doesn't give me the option to upload it.

When I look at the final planet in this system that still has 4 species left to find, it also says "100 complete" for some reason and doesn't look like it is going to give me the option either. Any known workaround?

OMG Extreme Survival Milestone must be done CONTINUOUSLY!

If you're doing this milestone... DON'T LEAVE THE PLANET!

It's going to take 8 hours of actual play time.

Ugh. Hit a "wall". I saw an "Atlas Station" marker in space, telling me to go there. I said "In a minute" and went back to exploring planets in that system.

When I realized that's where I needed to go to construct my first Atlas Pass, I went back into orbit to look for it and it was gone.

Damn. Where the hell do I go now??

Looks like you have the same issue. I dunno wtf to do.

Nice. The tower deposits are ridic tho. Taking me ages to mine this office building sized emiril.

warp drove to a one planet system, the station wasn't selling dark mater to refuel. the one planet there was high temperatures with constant storms that would kill me in five seconds of exposure

so that was interesting. in about an hour of huffing it in caves to mine fuel and flying around encampments (weirdly populated planet) I met a daft punk guy who taught me how to make dark matter. so that'll never happen again

but hey, that was the one somewhat engaging thing that came from the mechanics in about eight hours of playing

Do you have to do anything special to get the resources to highlight with the cubes effect when you scan? I've been playing a long time and I just realized that hasn't happened for me once...

Everything was going smoothly, until I found a fricken enormous mountain. Something like finding Mt. Rainier, towering the surrounding landscape. So, I fly up on top of it, still going great.

I find a Bypass Chip thing (gives location data), and then the game gets stuck in "Chug" mode. like 1 to 5 FPS, in inventory screens, option screens, in the ship and out. Got it to saved and closed the program. Will go back in once I collect all my pictures.

Pro tip: if you think you're going to warp, get out of your ship first to trigger a save, then go back in.

These network dropout crashes are insane tonight.

Ship help please!

Can someone post a pic of an explorer type ship. Are they the longer ones that look like space pontoons? lol

I'm trying to find the best ship for solar system/galaxy hopping. Also I'm still only seeing at best 26 slot ships max. Will I start seeing way better ships regardless of my ship as I keep going towards the center of the galaxy?

You do get better options. Just check the space stations whenever you warp to a new system. 8 warps in and I'm seeing ships in the low 30s for 8-10 million. Still using my 24 slot ship, though:

You'll see this ship type plenty. It doesn't have the lead fire reticle so it's definitely an explorer model. Strip out all the weapons systems, add a shield upgrade to help it survive while fleeing pirates and you're golden.

A nighttime shot of the planet I posted a shot of earlier. I can't get over how pretty it was. I've been to lots of planets on PS4 and this is like the third I visit on PC and it's probably the most gorgeous of all the ones I've seen. Their nice grass hiding the horrible ground textures works wonder on the aesthetics of the game.

Wow. Did you take pics of the mountain? Definitely want to see that.

Fuck. I've been wondering if this was the case since I wasn't making any progress. Looks like one special planet out there is going to get farmed into oblivion lol.

Just landed on an empty planet with nothing on it but numerous towers of gold. Farming it all and money ceases to be an issue for the rest of the game.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Pro tip- never sell a single Atlas Sphere. You'll need them later.

Sure, you can buy them later if you sell one now. Which is what I was told.

I made 50k off it, thinking it would cost maybe 100k to pick up later when I needed it.

It wasn't 100k. It was 2.7 MILLION. I just had to grind for four hours to buy a single one. One more to go.

Did this just appear in your "Hyperdrive" section? I unlocked it today and it said I already have it, but it's not appearing anywhere. Very confusing.

If it doesn't appear there, you may already have it installed I think?

I just found the Tau version as well and it gives me the same error that I already found it but it doesn't appear in my available technologies. It doesn't matter if it is installed or not it should be there. And I know I don't have it installed.

Many people have reported this issue. Any work around???

I think you need to be using your visor thing.
Just tried this, still nothing. When I scan I can see the cubes very dim for a quick second but that's it. I even tried pinning a recipe that required a certain resource and found that resource, still doesn't highlight with the cubes.

(this is a copy paste from another thread)

I've put about an hour and a half into No Man's Sky and it's exactly, to the point, what I expected from sensibly digesting all the pre-launch media and previews.

On one hand I don't feel it's a very good game, at least for my taste. It's very repetitive, follows a shallow gameplay cycle, and is definitely too big for its own booths. On the other hand I really admire the technology within and the general ambience and mood it conveys, which is something that on this 3D scale hasn't been done before.

So I'm left in this weird middleground. I think there's a lot of potential in the technology and concept that today is partially hindered by Hello Games being a tiny team, and partially technology itself. I'm not sure how feasible an even more complex, game system rich No Man's Sky under the same huge galaxy+ size template would be with today's CPU and RAM bottlenecks. There's definitely a place for a game that's No Man's Sky with even deeper, richer game systems, maybe in the future. I also like a lot of the concepts put into the game as-is; the language stuff is super neat, mining is fine, faux-RPG inventory and gear, etc. But it's still all follow the same relatively shallow gameplay loop.

It just never really presents itself as anything other than this though. Like it's 100% built on how invested you, the player, will subjectively be in this galaxy spanning resource acquisition adventure. The adventure is just you. And either the smoke and mirrors and game systems don't work and you don't care and it's all a crock of Molyneux shit. Or you're caught up in the scope and travel and legitimately (if potentially superficial) endlessness of everything and find peace and wonder with that. Or maybe you fall somewhere in between.

And I think me having quelled huge expectations, that's what the game is for me; an in between. I know I'm going to get bored, just like I get bored with Minecraft and Destiny, because I don't really like these gameplay systems very much. I don't like the feedback loop of resource gathering and upgrading. But at the same time I'm fascinated by the technology and its implementation, mainly for the fact it exists right now and there's potential for it to grow in the future. I can fly between planets and moons in real time and land on the surface and it's all fucking huge with gorgeous vistas and even though it's nothingness and pointless I still love the fact this can be done and I haven't done it before.

I'm basically a tourist in a technology demo I really like, and a game I don't. And I'm kinda okay with that.

Question. I know you like The Witcher 3. It's another huge open world game. But do you have any comment on the gameplay in say The Witcher 3 vs NMS?

While I like the The Witcher 3 (scope and story telling is amazing), I thought the gameplay was lacking after about 30 hours, as a lot of triple A open world games are. The game boils down to a bunch of fetch quests (go here and kill this guy) and the combat isn't incredibly deep. Ie a long way from something like Dark Souls.

NMS doesn't sound appealing to me, it seems it's a resource collectathon and it's a barrier to exploring further.

What can open world games do to make gameplay more fun? I think they just have to have better combat mechanics and scenarios, which very few seem to put effort in.

Nice, thanks!
I've seen that ship model plenty at every space station since that's where I got to scout ships. Just thought it was a cargo type for some reason since it's freaking huge lol and no big physical hyper drives on them usually.

I'm planning on making a super stealthy, maxed out shield, pulse engine & wrap reactors explorer. Should be enough to keep them scum pirates off my back.

What are the buildings called that have one landing pad?
Outposts I believe.

Neat, I just had kind of a cool thing, I was wandering around on foot hitting up signal scanners (got well over an hour away from my ship) and lighting up Drop Pod waypoints. Then finally summoned my ship and I had like 8 pods to hop between in a row super quick.

There are still 5 other planets here. Crazy how much more interesting this system is than the ones I'd started in on PS4.

I'm not super positive yet but I think that's a "trader" archetype ship. I think the "explorer"-class ships made by the Korvax are the ones with a sort of bulbous/sphere cockpit at the center, though they can vary a lot beyond that.

You can make any ship with a decent inventory layout work for you for whatever playstyle though, with effort. So it is ultimately more about aesthetics I'd say.

Oh man this was naturally occurring.

Well I decided I wanted to re-start my journey after suffering the preorder ship hyper drive bug. I deleted my save and started over. Though at this point I'm pretty No Man's Sky burnt out and will probably take a breather from it for maybe a week. Put a lot of time in to have to see it go to waste, that's not sitting well with me.

Welp, time for bed...played from 8pm-12:40am. Going to be so tired for work tomorrow, really really digging this game. Fucking love Space.

6 hours in. Am I the only one that's bored with this game already. All I've been doing is scanning stuff, mining and jumping from planet to planet, then to a different galaxy. It's kinda repetitive.

Please tell me there's something more to do.

I wonder if it's the ship that's bugged rather than having the tech.
