Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

So the E3 show floor build has been confirmed to not just be the same thing the story demo is (just in case anyone actually thought it might be) so we should hopefully get some full proper matches.

Hopefully its most, if not all, of the revealed characters so far.

Cant wait to see/hear the impressions!

The only thing IJ2 has to it in-game is the model quality. Everybody and their mother has gone over animations so I won't mention those, but even the artstyle is too grimdark for its own good.

It's one thing to not have characters pop off of the background (which MvCI suffers from), but it's another to have most of the characters and stages be so dark that they start blending into one another.

After trying this, the story mode cutscenes are meh, and the voice acting pretty amateurish, but I expected this after SFV's cinematic story mode.

I actually really like the tag and infinity system at first glance. I don't like the easy auto combo, I feel it goes too far with automating a fundamental building block of the game. I don't mind the down-down motion replacement for SRK moves, but it feels rather weird. I'm not sure it matches the game flow properly.

The biggest problem I have is that hits don't feel right. Yes, the ultron drones are a bad choice for exposing people to the game for the first time. But I loaded UMVC3 immediately after this to compare, and hit-stop and reaction when striking the opponent doesn't seem right in MVCI.

It's possible this demo is actually from one of the reveal builds from last november or december and it would explain a lot. If it's not, I'm a bit concerned.

Try messing around with the calibration of your display because this is the first I'm hearing of this.

Why does this game have SO MUCH chromatic aberration? I've never seen this much in a single game before.

It looks even worse in person than it does in videos.

It's awful. It makes me physically queasy. It's like watching a 3D movie without glasses to me. I could live with everything else if they could just take this crap out. It ruins any crispness to the visuals, and makes them a hazy mess too.

Somehow they think slapping that horrid effect on turns a game "cinematic".

Nah, that's pretty obnoxious.

It's always the superhero name, too. Never their real name or a nickname or anything. Sounds too stiff, formal, and weird.

I wonder if stuff like this is indicative of Neo G's departure.

Hulk's s.HP better be as satisfying as it was in MvC3.

At least that's one major plus with the PC version. Being able to turn it off.

That was a refreshing change in MvC3 and pretty good fanservice when they would yell out each other's names during tags or TACs. You also got some flavor with friends like Avengers calling each other with first names, Hulk calling people with his own nicknames, and Akuma yelling 'Boy' or 'Girl'.

I haven't played the demo to notice if they've overdone it this time.

That's not so outrageous if the new Capcom fighting game looks like it came out two generations before.

Capcom fighting games are praised for how good they look until it isn't convenient.

Lol, I forgot how admired SFIV, SFxT, TvC, MvC2 were for their beauty.

All of those games are ugly. I've never heard anyone say otherwise.

You couldn't make a game look like MvC:I last gen, let alone two gens ago. Look at TvC (480i) on Wii, look at MvC3 on PS3/360 (720p/1080p).

The hyperbole is real.

Meh. They shoulda showed the gameplay trailer instead of the story one then. Especially given all the high end graphics they had to compete with up there. Just made em look cheap.

Just played a lot of the demo and I really wish the fodder enemies didn't die so quick so I could experiment more than a single combo. Game feels good and like there is potential for a shitload of mixups now. Stones can be used so fast and frequently that I can see it getting pretty rapid fire out there. A ziplining Spencer dont mean shit now without the ability to summon an assist first to occupy your opponent so you can go for your mixups and crossups though. I think thats why he got the grenade thats all slow and floaty...to let him clutter the screen a little to attempt shit.

I liked what I played and it felt like almost everyone in the demo had built in left right or mixup stuff. From X having the wind cutter that loops folks, to Rocket having Groot assists to augment his trap play...it felt like folks had options to open folks up on their own in most cases. Anyone + Timestone has a guaranteed left right mixup attempt off of any teleport because they gotta guess if you truly are goin for the go behind or if your gonna tag out and hit them back on the original side. Couple that with traps or dudes like Rocket/Ultron that have asssist moves or even X who can place an air grenade or throw wind cutter, teleport, and then tag and its nuts.

Combos can easily get long IMO, but you'll only ever get to attempt it vs Ultron Sigma in the demo so I hope you like Thor combos.

Best in the demo so far....X and Thor by a mile. Thor is fast and really good now and X is just insane pressure and mixups with his buster cancels and tools. This game will be really fun at this rate. It just needs to get its shit together on shaders and lighting in a hurry.

Dragonball Fighterz though is no joke. Its 3v3, assists, and it seems to have the tag stuff plus a lot of quality of life additions to it that old Marvel never had. It feels more like a proper sequel to UMVC3 than MVCI. MVCI feels great, but it really does feel more like TVC meets SFxTekken to me. Very much the latter honestly. It'll be good, and fun but its definitely trying to be something different than its legacy. Its a fresh start in gameplay...DBFZ is a sequel to MVC gameplay and it'll have a ton more casuals buying it. It'll have serious legs out there vs a divisive Marvel sequel with definite graphical issues and potential roster and DLC fatigue issues.

Ok I called it a while ago but captain marvel is fucking legit. Using absorber to nullify projectile before going binary and whooping that ass feels .. good. Like how they got around making it op like the dark phoenix trandformation. Every character seems at least decent early on. Really liking Thor changes and everything about x and Carol.

I think he's talking about the story rather than when they tag out.

So you agree that MvCI is ugly then?

Yes. But it's not a departure from the norm and the hyperbole about the graphics looking dated is ridiculous.

There is WAY more detail on these models, the lighting is much more advanced, textures are high res, particle effects, etc.

UMvC3 has a stylized aesthetic that serves it well, though.

My biggest problem with the graphics of MvC:I is that the colors are too loud and everything is shiny, shit gets lost in the colors of the background very quickly.

I like the core gameplay more than I thought I would, although I still see no reason for it to not have assists and that's my biggest gripe. Also the easy hyper input is hilarious, like the default wasn't easy enough?

The story and visuals/presentation seems uh, mediocre to bad, but at least Roger Craig Smith's voicing Chris again. I really can't take all the fucking around with RE characters lately. Although he still sounds different to me in gameplay for some reason, despite it obviously being him in cutscenes.

I still don't wanna give them my money for this because the roster is so shite, and all the cool characters are being saved for DLC - including Black Panther who's one of the few Marvel characters I even want, and I assumed would be a shoe-in for the base roster.

Easy hyper input has been around since MvC2.

let me preface this by saying that I think the game looks bad, graphically.

but its always hilarious to me when people say shit like "looks like a ps1 game, looks like ps2 game" etc, the mind's eye is a funny thing.

I was looking at that Crash Bandicoot Trilogy trailer and thinking "oh this is what I remember the game looking like" except then you look at how the game ACTUALLY looked like and you go "oh no....oh no"

Yah people said SF5 looked like a high res SF4. Like what? Animations are totally different...

SFIV was good looking imo and if it weren't that greasy oil filter, SFXT would have been the same.

There is a clear difference when their Queen, Chun, looks like how she looks like in MvC:I.

What the fuck? So we've gone this low in the discussion...
Yup some people are so toxic in these discussions it's crazy.

Why are you taking this so personally? I'm not calling any of you out. Almost everyone in this thread has been calling out the lack of effort put into the VA or the visuals.

This is referring to the wider Capcom FGC that has players who shill for Capcom while shitting on other games but wouldn't call out Capcom for the same reasons. You'd know if you go to Shoryuken or Twitter.

Why is it low for me to call a spade a spade? Why is this term so toxic to you, or do you think such hypocrisy doesn't exist (it does)? Capcom has been a strong enough presence in the FGC for many years that there are people who see no fault in them, despite the company actively working against their interests.

Again, I don't see why anyone would take offence to this unless they think I'm calling them out personally. There's a difference between a fan and a fanboy. I've been a fan for years, but I'm not going to defend things like the VA and art style of this game or the lack of effort put into it as a $60 product.

Yeah man fight the good fight lmao
*shrugs*
Save the sass, my mans. You like it, you buy it. Don't see how my ranting is going to affect your enjoyment.

There's a difference between calling Capcom out for being shit, and using alt right terminology.
Didn't know the alt right were anti-Capcom. I'll keep that in mind.

I feel like i am the only person actually hype to play this game. Seeing Dante and Spencer is enough to make me want to play this game.

Not going to lie the the dante combos look stiffer than they do in UMVC3, Maybe it will be different playing the game vs watching a video.

I'll agree that Strider model couldn't be made last gen.

The main issue is the overall art style of the game is hideous and a huge step down from MVC3, which had a coherent, good looking art style.

Right now the whole game looks and most importantly feels unpolished in gameplay. The game needs to be delayed to address this because Capcom isn't gonna be able to get this down in 3 months.
